I thought Lord was poor. I would have told him to run with Taranto when he was running hot. I saw him line up at some stoppages but wasn't a tag.

Poor coaching. Needed to stop the momentum and change it up, rather than close your eyes and prey for the best.
It was his third game. Were many others that deserve more criticism.

Never thought I would say these words, but if Lewis Young had of played instead of Haynes we would have probably won by 2-3 goals.

He would have taken the 2nd ruck duties allowing Cripps and MacKay to play their actual roles. He also wouldn't have dropped 3 to 4 sitters that were ready to be marked by Weitering.
Totally agree Graffy. Lost this match at the selection table. Of course the other reason we lost was our atrocious kicking at

goal. Have a feeling that the much maligned Lewis Young, seemingly has very little belief from the match committee.

Have seen him play some decent footy, remember watching him play in the ruck versus Freo. He was really good that day.

Unfortunately Richmond are leagues better than the orange team in match sim.

Carlton are a slow list so no one gets exposed in match sim. Carlton can not expose Carlton because the pace is not there and the lack of forwards doesn't really show up due to the level. Come up against any side with a little leg speed and the witches hats come out.

I think the main issue last night was the complete lack of forwards. Yeah our makeshift bunch of forwards are going to star in match sim playing against VFL level defenders in low intensity footy. Reality is Cottrell and Fogarty aren't forwards, they are failed midfielders being made to fit and the list is not talented enough to force them out. Williams is a failed half back who kicked a few goals at the end of last year and whether he is a genuine forward or not is still pending. Evans is genuine VFL level. Motlop doesn't really look like a forward to me, more of a midfielder who is not fit enough to play in the midfield but has some forward traits. Kemp is an experiment that may yet work.

Losing Cuningham, Martin and Owies. They all had the ability to play forward between the ears which the others do not and so far they have not been replaced by equally talented players or better. But they probably had to go. Docherty and Cincotta are not forwards either. E Hollands is somewhat of a forward but who knows whether we see him again. Durdin looked good back in 2022 but has done nothing since. Perhaps his body is cooked, who knows.

The idea you can just plonk anyone who can half play and teach them to play forward doesn't work. Which is what we have gone with. Forwards are born with it, they have a particular way they read the game that is different to players in other areas of the field. We have failed to accept this and recruit accordingly. Forwards also have a broader skill set. Pace, agility, ball handling, good below the knees and overhead. Too many of our bunch have no overhead game at all and all of them lack genuine pace.

I've been saying it for a while now but going into next year there will be a big list clean out and we will be going very hard at recruiting forwards. I just hope we can get it right.

We have a fair bit of work to do in regards to building our list. Unfortunately both the Silvagni and Austin lead recruitment teams have failed horribly when it comes to being able to identify and recruit forward talent.

Lack of pace in the midfield is on them as well. They have had plenty of time and continued to recruit average to slow paced players. That is on the coach for his poor direction and the recruiters.

Poor kicking to our forwards and slow ball movement is on the players and possibly coaches but a lot of it has to do with the quality of players forward of the ball as well.

Hawthorn could make a real mess of us next week. We really really need Curnow, McKay and some others to step up.
I think it’s a lot deeper than just positions or players.

These players shouldn’t be losing to a side like Richmond especially after leading by so much

Yeh, I still am reeling from what were put through last night. It truly was a horror show. We were literally monstered by kids. I'm putting it out there right now- there is a snowballs chance in hell that we beat Hawthorn.

This ain't no life
You posted on our forums about your dad and the rivalry you both had. So sorry for your loss.

I guess i feel compelled to post to you. My dad is Carlton as is most my family, and I'm Richmond (was brainwashed Carlton until i came to my senses)...the rivalry

Im not here to add fuel to the fire....

Your team lost because of a lack of character, a lack of belief. I sensed this while watching the game.

Even early on it was more that our young players were not in the game, than the blues were playing great football.

its an observation and I know a lot of your posters know it as well.

We had three heartbreaking losses (in a month) in 2017 and you know the rest....This is a loss that's either going to get your club up and about or going to cement a need for a rebuild.

edit...cant be in no mans land.

Yep. I am tired of we need to bounce by or respond.

How about putting in an effort and just winning?
Respond or not it will make no difference we all know we’ll just repeat the same half ass games down the track … this team has never been consistent in-games let alone across a season … they do not have the want desire and most importantly the mental fortitude to succeed …

Can we name one player who has improved under Voss? I can name a few who have regressed.....
A broadly fair point, though Cripps has won 2x Brownlows under Voss. Curnow has 2x Colemans. Curnow was fitness related, but he has had his best 2 yrs under Voss. Hewett has his career best form under Voss, as has Acres.

It's not a massive list, to be fair, but there's a few.

I don't understand the criticism of Young. He has never played a game at bad as Haynes played last night. He knows his limitations and can play multiple positions

That’s the thing with Haynes, he played like a guy trying very hard, but unaware of the team or system around him.

His default was to be the playmaker, rather than block, shepherd , support , connect - almost like he was the only guy back there trying to hold it all together.

He was dislocated & in turn dislocated others.

I think we all have to ring the CFC and ask for mental health support they have a department right? I think we should all take indefinite leave from the club for obvious reasons!!! Lol

Still in disbelief in what I witnessed last night and that happened. I just want the club to address the half forward line seriously in regard to personnel. Always has been a pressing need and we have never really put time and effort into making it an area where flair and pressure can provide some more intuitive i50s and unpredictability. It actually makes me so frustrated.

Also after that last night - i cannot be the only one hoping we do not keep rolling with Gov, Haynes, Weiters and JSOS making up over half the defence. It’s too tall and the first three are all too similar in their intercept strength. The structure is off and balance is off. When Boyd is ready, there has to be a shift in dynamic there. I’m not a fan with the 4 of them spending large TOG together

Looking forward to the return of Curnow, another who goes to water when the heat is on, and who has never been subjected to anything resembling strong coaching, like all of our so-called 'stars'.

Voss patting McKay on the leg when he was on the bench, when he should have literally been screaming in his face to step the **** up.

That suggests to me that Voss was asking him to do something that he perhaps shouldn't have been asking

Doc 14 touches a quarter and two shots on goal

Silvagni got his hands to 3-4 balls and kicked a goal in like 10 minutes playing forward

Kemp - ciao, bring out Moir
Motlop - ciao, bring out Orazio

The genuine positive for me is that this game has shown me who we are and what we stand for as a football club nice and early, so no getting my hopes up and no point of going through the aggravation of watching Carlton (or any other AFL club) play for the year.
