“Sneak past” is massively understating how good a season he actually had that year.

He’s in very poor form now, but let’s not rewrite history.

It was an ok season IMO. A number of variables allowed Tim to collect a BNF.

WCE midfielders were almost to a man cut down through injury leaving Kelly as the last man standing

The historic levels of shiteness enabled opposition teams to basically not have to worry about defending/tagging any midfielders enabling Tim to run around freely. Not to mentioned the competition wide knowledge that if Tim gets it he's just as liable to give it straight back to you.

The rest of the list were all time levels of bad. Look at the top 10. A 50 year old Hurn came 5th for fuarks sake. No disrespect to the great man.

Bradbury is probably a touch harsh but holding up 2023 as a top shelf year is revisionist at best.

Well, we wanted development of young mids and we're getting it.

Can't complain tbh. Only way to see what they've got is to play them in the position they were drafted for.
Agreed. As a brand spanking new coach Mini is making all the right moves in a side looking to rebuild:
  • Drop senior players who have been underperforming
  • Play the kids
Frankly I would love to see lil' Oscar sent back to the 2's for a spell, but you cant drop all the seniors at once.

If we hit the draft with a mantra of "mids, mids, mids and maybe a ruck", I'll be full chub for the guy.

So in all seriousness what midfield line up will we be running with sans Kelly?

Gross, Hall, Graham, Baker…

Does Harley go back into the mid rotation? Prefer him to keep getting some easy ball and setting up play from half back.

Not sure who comes in from the Beagles that is a pure mid. Liam Ryan possibly to pinch hit in there?
It’s a fair question.
My guess
Ruck
B Will 75%
A Reid 25% (I think J Will is going to be omit for Waterman :(, seems counter productive with Oscar likely out the door

CBAs
Hall 70%
Hutchinson 70% (replaces Kelly)
Gross 60%
Baker 50%
Ryan, Graham, Reid 50%

We are so empty in the mid cupboard for ready to go now mids. While this helps with the future in a big way, we also want to get a win on the board and I think the 5 of the next 6 weeks are winnable after this round.

Hopefully from this stretch of next gen mids Gross, Hutchinson and Hall go from shouldn’t leave the side no matter what for the next 1.5 season, to doesn’t leave the side with other 22yo and under players A Reid, Maric, Dewar, Hough, Ginbey and H Reid.

The worries.
Hall- Disposal, doesn’t have to be elite with his role but needs to tidy it up in a big way.

Hutch- Midfield craft, does he have it? That half in Geelong has made it have to explored more.

Gross- Just over exposure in the middle for a first year player

And 3 main mids attending CBAs have 14 game’s experienced combined.

Well we'll well. The future is now.

We are going in with a mid without kelly and yeo.

I will lose my shit if they move harley out of hbf. Hes not ready..... I'll lose faith in coach

I mean somebody inform Carlton to bully and tag Gross. That should pretty much blanket us.

Why has kelly been dropped while duggan as a mid is still standing????

This is not celebration. Going in with such an inexpirenced midfielder is a damning assessment of our recruitment and list management team.

Ok lets have a bit of parliamentary procedure here.

2023 WCE had one of the worst injury runs in AFL history

Tim only managed to sneak past such luminaries as Oscar Allan, Liam Duggan and Jayden Hunt by virtue of playing all or most of the games on offer. At least he seemed to be trying though.

John Worsfold Medal Top 10 - 2023
1 - Tim Kelly - 200 votes
2 - Oscar Allen - 163
3 - Liam Duggan - 158
4 - Jayden Hunt - 116
5 - Shannon Hurn - 102
6 - Bailey Williams - 101
7 - Andrew Gaff - 85
8 - Alex Witherden - 84
Eq.9 - Tom Barrass - 79
Eq.9 - Noah Long - 79
Tim Kelly averaged a career best 28 disposals in 2023, as well as 4.7 tackles, and 13 contested possessions. Also managed to poll 11 Brownlow votes in arguably the worst AFL side of all time.

Try harder.

Cole , Hunt , Graham , Baker , B Williams could , will help out.
Bo Allan might debut in defence/ midfield also.

The variables that enabled Tim to have the season he did in 2023 have been outlined.

Brownlow votes as the main man in a team of spuds don't mean squat. Not going to sugarcoat for you babies out there.

I'd advise Tim to try harder.

How many times are you allowed to move the goal posts before you admit you're full of shit you reckon. 12, 13 maybe?

You know it's not compulsory for a team of spuds to get Brownlow votes?

Having a go at Hurn for finishing top 5 that year is pretty low. He was second the year before and it was his 11th top 10 finish.

If that’s what you’ve got to stoop to to try to rewrite history, good luck to you.

The reason for the variables that allow the goal posts to be moved today has been outlined due to doctor’s orders. My club has been provided with a medical certificate. I have been diagnosed with suffering from a work-related injury and as a result I am on sick leave until further notice. I will not go into any details as to my medical condition as I wish to keep that strictly private. I am doing my best to work with the club and my doctors so I can recover from my injury. I intend to return back to training as soon as I am fit and able.
