List Mgmt. 2025 Young Talent Time

I get the feeling the reason we’ve dropped behind the east in development is due to the goals & focus the clubs in the perspective leagues at development levels have & the resources available to the kids in each league.

The Coates Talent League teams are not really associated with senior clubs & hang their hat on how many kids get drafted equally to team success. In some cases it is more slanted to getting kids drafted. They represent a region & offer the country kids better access to resources due to where they are located.

I’m sure the WAFL clubs don’t have the same focus & the definitely don’t have the resources & therefore the quality of coaching that Coates League has. The very best will get through here, but a lot who have potential just don’t get the time invested in them needed to get to that next level.

We’ve all heard about Jye’s commitment & travelling to Perth from Busselton constantly throughout the year to be given that specialist training, a lot of kids who have potential fall away at this point.

Additionally having seen how EP have gone about it in the last 5 years, they have completely failed the kids in their country region with a lack of basic communication & resources.
My hobby horse (won’t happen) but WA need to go to a Coates style league.

South West team would be for better development than East Perth, and Swan Districts.

Too many inner teams in the WAFL that don’t care about what happens in the country.

Only Peel, Swans and the Garlic Munchers are in the outer Suburbs.

Time to get development where people actually live.

Agreed. Perth should have moved south to Gosnells or Thornlie or Kelmscott years ago. The population growth in suburbs like southern river, Harrisdale, Piara Waters, Byford has been huge.

He also had 10 clearances, 8 inside 50s, and 5 tackles.

Just searched for his name to read something about him (Whan). In an interview he says he is a richmond supporter. That's actually good , which ever richmond supporters we draft they turn out to be good. And they slide in the draft as well.

This doesn't mention his aerial ability. Pretty much got up on his opponents shoulders for the mark and slotted the goal on the 50 on his left. Peel Colts aren't that strong this year so I'm looking forward to seeing him play against better opposition. If he keeps up these performances he will rise into top 20.

An interesting listen about how hawks recruit players.

100 names on the board of players who can improve the hawks. Talk to everyone of the players managers, and then find the ones that may be available.

On the first this is not really true is it. Only East Fremantle, Claremont and Subiaco don't have outer suburbs in their zone.

As for the second part, it's not actually true at all. 60/70% of the population of metropolitan Perth (if you exclude Rockingham Mandurah which is already Peel) live within 15 km of the river. E.G. if you moved East Perths colts training ground out to Ellenbrook, it would make travel worse for the majority, not better.

I don't disagree making colts non WALF club aligned would be a good idea btw, I just think you'd other than that northern corridor you'd end up with most of the 'clubs' nearer the city rather than further away.

The WAFC strategic plan had this as a major agenda as a talent pathway. Instead of club names a report similar to Vic's Coates league had teams like Central, West, North etc but none of the WAFL teams wanted it as resources (match day volunteers) and financial just would not have benefited the clubs.

From memory 80% of the funding was going to come from the AFL and the WAFL weren't going to be compensated.

Each WAFL club wanted to maintain their identity and the traditional match day formula of Colts, Reserves the League.

Streamersports instagram has a good clip of the hanger by whan

He looks shit. Who needs a big half back/midfielder with elite skills, who can take hangers and kick from 52 and hit the fence?

Freo fans have to get excited by this performance from their NGA prospect Toby Whan. The big and powerful Whan did a bit of everything on the day, flying through the air to take a mark of the year contender, booting goals, lacing out teammates with his raking left foot, and bulldozing his way through contests. Whan might be flying under the radar at the moment with a lot of draft watchers, but the upcoming Champs might be where he forces everyone to sit up and take notice.

Anyone know who the Longmuir is that was playing for Souths? Any relation to Justin & Troy?

I hear a bunch of Vicbias complaining the draft is weak but then see Whan is consistenly outside top 20 and Curtin outside the top 10 and I assume a lot of the complaining is because of the Vic strength. Legit seems like the best WA crop in a long time
