Autopsy North lose to Carlton.

I think my favourite moment from today was McDonald getting Cripps HTB, doing a little pump up gesture to the crowd, then trying a 6-metre kick in board that didn't make the distance to a team mate from the resultant free kick.
I couldn’t believe that!! Loved him for his heart and soul emotion but jeeeeez……..

Passion showed by North fans today especially in the third quarter was the highlight of the game for me. Umps are definitely influenced by the clubs with bigger supporter bases, but we made ourselves heard at stages today.

We are all feeling down and defeated by the lack of improvement from the team this year. I guess we keep waiting for them to turn the corner, but it just gets harder each year to keep the faith that they will.

I've been passionate NM for my whole life, but right now .... honestly, I really don't know how to feel anymore.

Agreed, while the game was still relevant, the North crowd was good.

So here’s the thing.

The way we expect to win and be competitive in games is unsustainable. It relies incredibly heavy on clearances, and especially centre clearances, for source of scoring. Against AFL quality opponents you’re not going to get that totally your way for all of the game. The Demons game was an outlier because Melbourne gave up in the last quarter. Go back and review the tape, they literally laid down and started walking. We looked great, but we were not.

Of course, when the midfield is beaten, that exposes us because the coaching staff do not prioritise defending, it’s as simple as that. We play Fisher, FOS, McKercher and Daniel as defenders. Does that look like a team that prioritises defence? Clearly not. It’s a team that is prioritising attack out of defence. But the thing is - sustainable football is won from turnovers, not by scoring from d50 or centre clearance. Those things are bonuses. We cannot cause turnover. Cannot defend turnover. And cannot convert turnover when we are able to.

We’re ****ed.

The easiest proven way to win games of football since September 1997 is to load up your backline with talent, smarts and speed and launch from HB in waves. Try to lock it in with good forward and half-forward pressure and capitalise on this effort with opportunistic small forwards.

If you break that down into three components, we fail pretty much in every category and seem to have been wilfully ignoring this tried and true strategy for the last 25 years:

Skilled, fast and smart backline: Fail

Forward and half-forward manic pressure: Fail

Forwards bringing the ball down to skilful opportunistic smalls: Fail

Has any premiership team ignored the above only to double and triple down exclusively on the midfield-only route to success?

Its a turnover game. And we're no good at that.

Our list is awful.

And we hamstrung ourselves at the selection table.

'Get pumped by 10 goals against the Suns?' let's just drop the 5 gamer substitute and otherwise go in unchanged.

Stupid. Inexcusable. Predictable.

Yeah OUR LIST THAT CLARKO HAS HAD INPUT INTO FOR 3 TRADE PERIODS SUCKS. But it’s not Clarko’s fault at all, if only we had an unprecedented amount of first round draft picks running around for us every week

There was a normal ass Carlton supporter in his late 50’s sitting in front of me that I wanted to smack in the head and tell to stfu because he was applauding his team and being slightly obnoxious. This is not healthy.
When you consider how much a game like this means to us compared to a team that has been pushing finals… You start to question where your passions are. Seriously where is the joy in this sport?

(Probably) the last thing I’ll say…

David King was completely correct with what he said today with regards to George Wardlaw’s inclusion:

Some people think they’re giving full effort, then you see a guy like George come in and it makes everyone else’s efforts look very lacklustre.

I can't see a win incoming anytime soon, and normally I'm fairly optimistic and hopeful.
North is in no position to poke fun at or look down on any other team in the competition right now.
And I don't want to see any fluff from the club's socials this week - e.g. parmi or parma? Please, spare me.
They should interview members instead of players...

Shit sandwich or watch this current 'team' play?

Most would eat the sandwich 😞

Hate that. No other marquee games are withdrawn based on performance. Neither should this one.

No other marquee games lose by 10 goals as often as we do though. What is it, 1 win in 9 years of hosting it? I don't want it, but what's to stop the AFL from changing it to say Essendon/Carlton at the MCG? That's already a much bigger crowd so they have their excuse.

A lot of us are, how shall I put it, disappointed, you could add let down, despondent, dispirited and saddened. On our Good Friday game, we played the worst I've seen since covid and that is really saying something taking everything into context with what has happened to our team in the last five years, they literally seemed to give up in that last quarter.

To see our midfield get not beaten but slaughtered was quite astonishing, the way it was done and the amount of time it continued was disturbing, to say the least. I don't jump to conclusions, because what may seem a simple observation to one person may seem different to someone else, I've heard the coach is past it/ should be sacked if this keeps happening, the other coaches should be cleaned out even though we already have done this, the players aren't trying/not good enough/ and players aren't playing in their natural positions.

Alastair is trying players in different positions so they can be versatile and have that other string to their bow, the only thing with that, is it takes time. You don't have to be Sherlock Holmes to figure out our defence is a problem and yes its not all on them, our midfielders not getting back to help them out is also a factor in all of this. I've factored in loss of confidence, maybe problems with the game plan and a few other things but that performance today in our big day just didn't add up.

Just like the Gold Coast game but different because we had a chance to really stretch them before giving up late in that match and the similarities are eerily similar, between now and the half way point of the year it will be very interesting to see what transpires with the way we are playing /intend to play.

Can we get some horse shit down at the club tomorrow?
On it

Luke Parker hasn’t spent enough time with the playing group yet to have any real influence on leadership and team direction etc but I still think he is a good pick up and will be a very good influence on the younger players. As for Caleb he needs time to gel with new team. As for Darling, I was not thrilled about him in the first instance.

…some were in here wanting Parker made captain in January Dani

I give you Melbourne on Queen’s/King’s Birthday. Never a hint of them losing that and now they’ve added the Daniher heart the results matter even less.

I honestly doubt that - apart from a few trolls and self loathing North supporters - there is any appetite to change this fixture.

All the ones around me and my son were very calm - un-Carlton like. Which was lucky, otherwise we would have got into a fight.

As flat and disappointed as I've been in my 50+ years supporting North yesterday. So humiliating watching Carlton take the pi55 out of us in the end. Our drop off in the last 3 weeks has been remarkable, a sign of a weak and poorly coached side.
