We are only 6 rounds in but I’d be making the following changes going on what I’ve seen so far at the end of the year

Sheed - Retire
Jamo - Delist
Barnett - Delist
Rawlinson - Delist
Hunt - Delist/Trade
Petch - Trade/FA
Allen - FA
Cole - Trade
B.Williams - Trade

It leaves us light on for key backs but to be honest it’s not like Jamo & Barnett are contributing much anyway so I’m sure we will be fine without them. The rest of them I just really don’t see them being around long term. Out of the list Cole is the only one I’d think about keeping.

Bazzo and Chesser both survive. I’d just like them to get a good run at it going into the back part of the year and see how they fit into the team under mini before I make any call.

Hopefully if Allen leaves and we get first round compo we can get at least 3 picks in before we take some academy players.

1, 2 & then the hawks first.

Well, I'm glad you asked. Thankfully I have already shot, edited and produced a video on Jobe's attributes, which you can find here:

To summarise Jobe's key attributes include the following:
  • pack marking;
  • contested work (both in the air and on the ground);
  • set shot kicking from distance (40+ metres);
  • football IQ and nous;
  • elite leading patterns and 2nd efforts;
  • endurance and up-field efforts; and
  • foot skills.

His main weakness was simply consistency game to game.
One game he might kick 4 goals from 17 disposals and 7 marks and the next he might only have 7 disposals and have no effect on the game.
The other one was just his height, however, he only needs to grow a couple of cms to be a legitimately tall key position height.

But, hey, I only watched Jobe play live about 18 times last year, so what would I know?

Very nice work.

t's not that I don't think he will be a good player, just how Barrass/ McGovern are a lot less effective up forward.

Consistency isn't an intangible factor. There's a reason whether a lack of fitness, or incomplete game etc
What I think for Shanahan in this case is that if he's a one trick pony. Lead, Mark, kick at goal. If he's being blocked off his run up or being beaten then it's game over so far. Behind the ball we can have a safe pair of hands all of the time.

I do wish him the best of luck though. It can't happen this year because we've got their picks obvs, but I'd love to see him win another flag for them.

Bazzo is a long way off

What has Bruhn done?*

*allegedly

This is rumoured to.be about him

There's 2 pending court cases in Geelong court for a Tanner Bruhn (could be someone else with the same name, but not a common name)

He's also listed on Geelongs injury list every week as a finger injury TBC, but there's never any mention of his progress.

The player facing the charges can't be named for legal reasons, but Bruhn is the one who fits the rumour the best

Every single elite key forward coming through the draft is inconsistent though.
You look at Aaron Cadman, Jed Walter, Jonty Faull, Harry Armstrong, Matthew Jefferson, Jacob van Rooyen, Jye Amiss, Riley Thilthorpe and Logan McDonald (to name a few top level key forwards coming through the U18s). All of them struggled with consistency (to varying degrees) during their underage years.

I mean, I wouldn't call Josh Kennedy a one-trick pony, despite him preferring space or one-on-one contests to have a scoreboard impact.
Shanahan is better in packs, which does make it harder for opposition teams to simply block him.
Further, he worked hard on his endurance last year running a 6 minute and 39 second 2km trial at the Combine last year.
Hopefully, if he keeps improving this he would be able to outwork his opponent up the ground if we are lacking the necessary inside 50s for our key forwards.

In any event, even at his current development, he cannot be any worse than Oscar Allen's first month of football this season.

And we are going to find that in the MSD?

Bryan Cranston Laughing GIF

Cars in the 80s had air conditioning as an upgrade, a luxury I guess but if you didn’t get it your car still got you from point A to B.

A midfield is what wins you games and a good ruckman is a luxury which makes the journey more enjoyable.

Plenty of examples of rucks getting destroyed and the side winning. A dominant ruckman can miss games through injury yet good sides don’t suddenly start losing by 70-100 points every game.

I’m under no illusion that a good ruckman would be a nice thing. However we have plenty of other more pressing issues that need fixing, rather than the “silver bullet” of a brand new ruckman from the MSD that’s at Matt Flynn levels of 💩

Who said silver bullet? No one but you.

We need a solid capable ruck as a minimum. We havent found one to date. Even premiership gun midfields need a capable ruck.

Its a need. One of many.

He’s only just re-signed but it’s clear Moyle won’t be playing regular senior footy for years with Witts in the picture. Packaging our picks for him, Davies and their best pick would be my preference. If we can manage that and get Bailey off to the Bombers for Zach Reid that would give us 3 x 23yo in our three most pressing areas of need.

Kol-Mun might be a long term option via the MSD in the meantime but I’ve never seen him live.

reuniting archer with his brother Zach over here in the west did cross my mind on the weekend.

They’ve just lost their two best 22 rucks to 12 month injuries and are relying on Goldie who is the same age as the Notre Dame Cathedral.

Perfect time to open a trade discussion.

Anyone wanting Zac Reid actually watch him play or just because it's Archers brother you're keen?

I've had him in my SC team all year so most weeks watch him closely and he's far from amazing. Been torched a few times.

Also not somebody bombers are going to let go easily, after carrying him through injuries all last year and being a former top 10 pick.

Feel like he started the year slowly, didn’t look great in the first couple of weeks, and is now starting to find some form after a long interrupted start to his career.

He has attributes that would be highly regarded.

There’s a clear link, he’s out of contract and plays a position we lack quality.

Seems far less crazy than some of the names being thrown around in this thread.

I can’t comment prospectively on how the rest of his season goes but he’s building nicely and getting up to speed with the pace of AFL football each week. The Bombers wouldn’t be able to demand anything significant after 9 games in the previous four years and if they want to play silly buggers then the PSD is not unreasonable at all. They need a ruck, we need a KPD and a swap of Bailey would be more than fair.

The fact that he’s Archer’s brother is just an incentive for him to move. Even if we didn’t have Archer I’d still be keen on him. He’s a beautiful kick of the football and so far his body looks like it’s finally ready for AFL footy. Needs to get more games and build his body up to avoid injury and be able to play on big KPFs. 23 years old at the end of the year and would be a substantial upgrade on any of our KPDs bar Gov.

I really like this idea, but what package of picks would you give up for Moyle and Davies and their best pick?
Zach Reid looks a no brainer for someone like BW.

I’ve posted similar before but ideally:

WCE 18th, PORT 13th, HAW 7th
Oscar Band 1 (Pick 2), Petch Band 5 (Pick 39), Cole Band 5 (Pick 40)

Picks
1,2,12,19,33,39,40

12,19,33,39,40‎ = 2,813 points = pick 1/2

Trade: (GCS get +1164 points)

OUT: Pick 12,19,33,39,40
IN: Pick 6, Ned Moyle, Alex Davies

Trade Bailey Williams for Zach Reid

*The above would be dependant on pick 6 getting Cody Curtin so we leave the draft with two best mids, him and our NGAs/FS. 2026 points deficit will be minimal unless Koby Evans goes gangbusters.

Doesnt that indicate we need to cut eight players?

Pick 1 (Sharp), 2 (Freddy) and 6 (Curtin) + NGA (three Kids) and Moyle, Davies?

You obviously didn't see my post after visiting the MIL again. The name on the door was Berry if I remember it correctly, so I assume he is their grandfather on the mother side. Whoever he is the Warner boys visited him and the nursing home have the pictures to prove it.
Jeez, we used to watch airports and cafes in Claremont for player movements. Now, it's nursing homes.

Just on our NGA's

I can see Walley being bid on between 20-40 (I think more towards the top end than the bottom) depending on his year. Evans if he has a good year through the midfield is also around that range (potentially even higher). Banfield is a touch vanilla (his younger brother Harper looks a better prospect) so may be a late bid or straight through to cat B. At this stage I don't think Caton* gets bid on and not sure I want to pick him up.

So as a club we really may not be able to trade up for a higher pick than the hawks one. We may be able to trade our second and hawks second for a late first however.

In the open pool I only see about 30 players with quality draftable attributes that don't have a deficiency in their game that makes them potentially undraftable. So many players with poor skills this year and along with ball winning ability it's the clubs biggest need. Clean off the ground and skilled with ball in hand.

Plus Z Reid and I really like Caton as a cat B so 12 in total including trades/FA:

Oscar, Sheed, BWilliams, Jamieson, Petruccelle, Cripps, Livingstone, Bazzo, Rawlinson, Hunt, Cole. We would also need to delist Chesser or the like if we think Banfield is not going to make it to the rookie draft and we’d prefer him but I think he’ll get to rookie status.
