Efaseems like jacinta asked Mathias Cormann to do the maths on his leadership vote before she committed to jumping across
Oh, there's no way they can help themselves, they'll get rid of her in the most messy way possible, further alienating women, then be surprised when they get thumped again. If she leads them to a general election I’d be very surprised.
Taylor aint further to the right. He was backed by the right side of the party but he is far more centrist then he lets on. More so then both dutton and morrison and far more intelligent (not thats saying much). Thats why he has so much problems justifying the crazy right policies and looks like an idiot when forced to.The Liberal Party isn't as stupid as I thought.
I thought for sure they were going to move even further to the right with Taylor/Price, but they've chosen two moderates, and one of them is a woman!
Imo the only way they win another election is if they change their approach to climate policy to win back the teal-held seats. Will be interesting to see if they dump nuclear.

Suicide. With another three and possibly six years of development of renewables coupled with the lag time to build the reactors they'll be laughed out of the room. With Ted O'Brien as her deputy, the odds are that they won't dump their nuclear policy. They'll take it off the table for a bit to tweak it behind the scenes, but O'Brien has been a long-time proponent of nuclear being part of Australia's energy supply mix, so I'm positive it'll be back on the table before the next election.
Give them time. The Liberal Party isn't as stupid as I thought.
I would probably say the known problem about losing the centre was the defining characteristic in the vote going for Ley. Even though ideologically most Libs would be aligned with Taylor they know Ley is more electable, and certainly Taylor allying with Price would have scared them off. Jeez even Dutton’s jaw dropped when Price dropped the MAGA line. While a lot of Liberal MPs may be sympathetic toward MAGA I think they realise that’s an election losing position so Price is untenable. Also a lot of resentment about how a less than 3 years in Parliament Senator who only joined the Liberals this week is the one Taylor wants to be Deputy leader, which would have harmed Taylor’s bid too.
all the while - hastie plays the preacher man game and lets warring factions destroy each other over the coming years ..... then humbly offers himself up as the consensus candidate closer to the electionI can see Ley getting the vote and then white anted from day 1
Her first major policy announcement will be renaming the country Ausstralia.
The first thing they need to moderate the pre-selection candidates. At least they have a small chance of that now.If she leads them to a general election I’d be very surprised.
Ted O'Briens insistence that Labor resolve nuclear waste storage for the liberals own policy was one of the most ill-thought political wedges I can remember. Surely he is not the answer to any question worth asking? With Ted O'Brien as her deputy, the odds are that they won't dump their nuclear policy. They'll take it off the table for a bit to tweak it behind the scenes, but O'Brien has been a long-time proponent of nuclear being part of Australia's energy supply mix, so I'm positive it'll be back on the table before the next election.
It really depends on the modelling you're reading in to. CSIRO's or what the Liberals commissioned.Obrien being the deputy is bad news given his nuclear agenda.
But by the next election the economics of nuclear will be even worse compared to renewables. So it hopefully wont matter.

lolz
”Meanwhile Andrew Hastie dines with Gina and Kerry weekly while this shitshow unfolds.an observer’s take. we live in interesting times.
“So Sussan Ley becomes Liberal leader by a 4 vote margin, relying on the votes of 3 Liberals who will no longer be in the Senate after the end of June. There will also be a new Liberal Senator who is aligned to Angus Taylor once the new term begins. Watch this space”

They’ll head to the next election with no policies again, because they’ve spent all their time adding an extra letter to every word in their documents and haven’t got them finished in time.
