Is just relying on the draft the way to go ?

How many picks (first rounders) have hawks drafted in their most recent rebuild?

Genuine question, I don’t know the answer.

Yes we can just draft 18 year olds, but is that the answer ?

Feels like we have too many kids now ?
There is an age gap on our list between 23-28?

Also, what happens, say if we finish bottom 4, and our NGA kye fincher is a top 20 pick (by end of the carnival)
Can we take a player at pick 4 and Kye?
Or have to choose one?

Hopefully no one at the club is under any illusions how far we still have to go.

i just have to see the zebras picked team(stacked with saints most weeks)then the result to know this,dont even have to watch the games

getting smacked by non affiliated teams and getting smacked by other afl reserves every week,we are miles behind based on that alone

seems we are back to stat padding again in the ones and the twos,great for my fantasy prospects,but,i mean marshall sincs and higgins rack up those stats against the bottom team & we lose by 5 goals,jones and dodson rack up very good numbers in the twos,backed up by clark boxshall and we cant even get close,long long way to go

I think the lesson is actually don’t tank and don’t worry about early picks but keep finding value.

I mean Watson and day are like their highest picks.

Day is a superstar but

Weddle , siscily , etc all value picks

Eventually you arrive at the only reasonable conclusion: as long as our fans won't show up through thick and thin, and as long as the academies and the father-son rule continue to exist, we are stuck with nothing much to be done about it other than develop who we can get and find a way to tactically succeed.

It's not that we don't have elite talent: it's that we have no way to access it.

We can get both. If Kye ends up a late first you can match it with junk at the back end. He won’t be at the pointy end so the points won’t matter

And without being able to load up on multiple 1st rounders via NGA/FS picks we have to hope that the one kid we get is not just talented but develops perfectly, doesn't get injured, fits with the group & never asks for a trade.

Would LOVE a couple of years picking our versions of Naicos/Moore/Quaynor or Blakey/Heeney or the BS that the Suns hoard every ****ing year...

But we can't.

So we grab Phillipou and hope he doesn't keep getting injured. Or Wilson and believe that he will develop into an A grader. Or Nas and pray he doesn't go home. Or that Trav can be a mid. Or that Tauru is worth the hype.

Because if even one of them fails then we are another year behind the clubs that get to double dip in the draft.

Why not. If we can get him right it would be an awesome storey. We want to be the number one indigenous club and have the mental health facilities to help.

We need an average of 30,000 per home game at Marvel in years we finish 18th to ensure we can get to the other side of a North Melbourne style rebuild IMO. That's regardless of timeslot or opponent. There won't be 20,000 at Marvel next Sunday, and for what is there, I'll be responsible for five of the attendees.

Collingwood had over 67,000 at the MCG on Saturday against an interstate opponent with no Victorian ties.

TBH would take punt on Jamarra over paying TDK $1m+ p.a..

Outside of offering him something insane, $2m a year +, why would he come here vs the Dogs who are always there abouts. Or be part of North's rise?

That's not even getting into the MCG teams that can dangle the blockbuster games & massive crowds.

The Pies could probably find a way to make it work. Same with the Bombers and Dees.

We are always going to be behind the 8 ball when these opportunities come up.

It is highly likely our crowds will drop. I suspect it's why the rebuild word hasn't been uttered.

They're trying to keep a crowd coming for as long as possible in a season before everyone wakes up and realises its another dud year.
That time period is getting short year by year.


Collingwood have years of success behind them to get the crowd through the doors. We don't have that luxury.
They're also basically halfway to winning the flag so the casuals are rocking up.

No I don’t think we should just spend the money because we have it.

As I’ve said I don’t trust SOS. I’ve made my position clear. I think his record is he just targets players he knows. St Kilda has in the last 10/15 years become good at targeted recruiting not splashing cash.

Go after depth players from giants, swans, GC , Espescially due to an academy oversupply.

Think it’s just a waste.
