Take 2 now if there's enough talent.

End of season draft will be a bust.

List spots not really a concern, with 12 still out of contract. Can't see many of Tucker (injured), CCJ, Bergman (injured), Payne, Phillips (Eagles bound?), Goater, Harvey, Ford, Dawson or Teakle getting extensions.

Maley and Pink I can see extending. Still would leave the 10 above
Fair point. I guess you find a way to make room. Even if we took a Sulzberger with the 2nd MSD pick, it might be a better pick than say pick 36 or 58 in this draft.

It sounded like Souup had offered his services recently. I’m unsure if has improved. How far back you want to go? I’m not convinced the joint being run amazingly well. Are you?

Gotta be concerned with a few of our recent draft picks too, including pick 1 from last year’s MSD.
Looks like the tigers have brained it with a pretty similar hand to what we had the previous year…….did we? Dunno.

Interesting comparison.

Comparing our 2023 and their 2024 is interesting. Tiger cubs definitely all play with a harder edge than our young “joeys”.
All bar Smillie and Hotton, because they haven’t played yet, have impressed me, begrudgingly, with their intent at the ball and man.
I’d rate Wardlaw and Finn at the required level of intensity for us, but neither of them were in that supposed “stacked hand” we had in ‘23.

Nice draft last year, but Tigers only have the two top 5 picks in the 2025 draft, nothing else.
I guess they could split picks or trade futures.

Why dont we try and trade our 2027 future first pick for 1 of their 2 picks in the top 5....

Apart from Lalor and Trainor, can’t say I’ve really noticed the others. Don’t pay a lot of attention to Richmond at the moment though.

Gotta say I'm the same. Trainor stands out (wish we got him somehow) and seeing Lalor live really convinced me that he's going to be a serious player, but I can hardly name the others.

I don't think they'd trade out of this years draft with the mids available to complement Lalor and Smillie.
They'd probably look at more running mid/wings to complement their contested inside players.
They may just shift back in the order with their 2nd R1 if they want to generate more picks in the top 25 or a future pick, but whether another team would be that keen to trade up the order it's hard to know.
Our 2027 R1 is hopefully pick 7-14 range if we are close to or making the top 8, so that wouldn't hold much interest.

They had a bit of luck getting that stacked draft hand in a stronger/deeper 2024 draft.
In hindsight, we should've held onto one of our 2024 assistance picks, but easy to say that when they may have been taken off us if we didn't use them. We are due for some luck to come our way (knock on wood).

McCarthy is another of the Richmond VFL linked players being discussed as potential mid season draft picks. He's a versatile type who can play a number of roles. In this game he was deployed primarily as a medium sized defender, working hard both ways and being effective at disrupting opposition moves as well as getting involved in attacking ball movement.

Don't get me wrong, I really like Archer May, but I really hope we get the chance to select McCarthy.

He is a modern day footballer, who can cover the ground, rebound and provide that drive we desperately need. The two things that have stood out to me most about him is his cleanliness and power. He is very much a one touch player, rarely fumbles and is a really solid ground level player. The vid quoted doesn't show his power running all that much, once he gets a bit strong he'll have no worries powering off the half back line and breaking tackles.

A half back line that included Hards, Goater and McCarthy is Hawthorn-esque with Scrimshaw/Weddle/Sicily. All athletic types who can intercept, defend and provide drive either via run or long kicking.

Are WCE stronly linked to him?

Very small sample size and obviously a lot of time for improvement but Trainor is currently the 2nd worst kick in the comp. Not sure we needed another one of those, no regrets on missing out on him just yet...

Seems as though WC are keeping their cards very close to their chest. They haven't been linked strongly to anyone at this early stage. I heard on the grapevine that they've had scouts at each of Geelong's last 3 VFL games, can only assuming they are looking at Charlie McCartin or Marcus Herbert very closely.

Simply must pick a plug and play type, if that's McCarthy then grab him if he's available. We don't have the luxury of time for players to develop, they need to be able to make an immediate impact.

Any chance McCarthy has nominated for 18 month to price himself out of getting to either us or the Eagles?

Or more likely he's already received a commitment from one club that they will offer him 18 months

As a mature ager there's a lot more on the line moving states than there is for someone fresh out of high school.
You'd be looking for some JS considering he may have to uproot his family etc.
