Actually yes it was a free kick and Pearce will get some sort of follow up mention in the match review - took his eyes of it at the last minute and was (unlucky) to hit the oppo player high and in the head. No intent and not weeks, but it did have severe impact and he could have stayed locked on the ball but didn't

As for your post well of course they’re all still quickly trying to remember exactly where and how they should be positioned in jlos meticulously crafted game plan

I’m not sure Pearce goes for that . DBJ just runs reckless back with the flight as Pearce has eyes only for the ball up until the split second before impact.
I really dislike the commentators watching a slo mo replay and saying “Pearce took his eyes off the ball” that’s utter crap, he was focussed on the mark

It is utter crap but that is exactly what the AFL will say. If you elect to bump and you hit him high you get weeks. Even if you only elected to bump because you had no other option.
