This is the most frustrating thing about these two. We know they're capable to match it with the best but it doesn't happen consistently enough. Especially as we're a young side.

Full props to them though, they had a belter.

Really? I dont see it like that.

Taranto has been consistently good every single week since he joined, other than a fortnight against Port and saints.

Hopper has just been injured. He's gaining real continuity now.

Don’t think the trade is as bad as people make it out to be.. especially when you compare their contracts to the contracts players are getting now eg LDU and Ben McKay. They are rumoured to be on 700k per year.

Also, here’s a quick rundown of the trade:

Richmond -Tarranto
GWS - Pick 12* (Elijah Hewitt - WCE) and 14 (Max Gruzewski)

Richmond - Hopper 53(Kaleb Smith) and 63 (Steely Green)
GWS- Future 1st** (traded and drafted Phoenix Gothard) and 31 (Toby MacMullin)

*Pick 12 was used as part of mega trade [JHF] in which GWS trades multiple 1st round selections to land Pick 1 which was Cadman

**Future 1st was traded to Adelaide in a swap of picks. Adelaide selected Daniel curtain and with the return pick, GWS selected Phoenix Gothard

Taranto 6th in league for tackles. 14th for clearance. 18th for disposals.
11th in disposals for Hopper. 21st in clearnances.

Scary to think what we'd look like if they weren't in there. Not getting the credit they deserve here.

Not suggesting either will (or should) poll votes for disposals in the brownlow but in terms of playing roles for the rebuild, nothing short of absolutely exactly what we need.

Let them both helicopter bomb it into the 50 all year. No bonus points for winning enough games to get the 6th pick in the draft. Without these two what happens to Lalor in there? (Smillie soon).

They aren't even close to overpaid based on current contract trends.

100%

Would like to see TT give a hand ball more, last night he burnt Lalor in the middle and chose to kick, once he fixed those decisions his impact will me much higher imo.

Good call on TT. Maybe he will too when he becomes accustomed to having some help in there. Imagine trying to be that bloke last 12 months putting your head in the hole every 5 minutes. He'll become more effective when he has some classy support. Regardless, he leads our tackles, clearance, disposals. WTF more do people want from the guy

Hopp showing what he looks like after a injury free run seems to be moving a lot quicker and with more freedom, is as tough as they come and always gets those hands free in a tackle.
They are both not the best decision makers but they are heart and soul players that came to richmond for success. They have accepted that they won't get that right now and are leading the way for the youngsters and providing great culture and leadership. The quicker they help progress these kids the quicker they will be back with a chance of success and to me are both playing like players that realise this 👌

Well said. Paid like B+ players, play like B+ players, judged like A grade players

their pays are actually pretty meagre when you look at some of the contracts getting around for arguably lesser players. could still argue we gave up too much in terms of picks but we didnt rate the draft and later went all-in on a draft we did rate. so there's really no downside to the situation now the dust has settled.

I was very critical of their recruitment once it was clear we were rebuilding again however it has inadvertently turned into a rebuilding master stroke having a couple of very solid midfielders in a team full of developing youth. Delighted how this rebuild is transpiring, the club is playing it perfectly and we should be snapping at the 8 in a few years then hopefully pushing for another premiership era.

I am pretty sure that was always the main plank of the plan, for Taranto and Hopper to lead our next generation of midfielders while they developed. Anything they achieved with the remnants of the dynasty team would have been seen as a bonus.

They won't be teaching the kids in our midfield anything useful, hope we do get dusty back for a mentoring or coaching role.

Can't see past the Stats? Better to watch the game and see how they get them and what they do with them.

That's a far better indicator of what effect they have on the game.

Broken record here, but I'm not sorry, can't stomach the gloating on arguably our worst midfield in memory.

No point justifying the turd you just stepped on ?

I think it's a bit unfair to be judging the impact of Taranto (247 CBA) & Hopper(245 CBA) when their supporting midfielders are the likes of:

Dow 130 CBA (11 games)
McIntosh 110 CBA (11 games, first year ever playing centre square midfield)
Lalor 64 CBA (10 games)
Ross 58 CBA (11 games)
McAuliffe 42 CBA (3 games)

Alongside Nankervis (227 CBA) they're carrying the load when it comes to being the leaders of the midfield. Now they're starting to get some proper support with McAullife being introduced & Prestia to come back in, we'll no doubt start to see a bit of a change up in how the midfield structures up with less reliance on having both of them in the middle at the same time, to try and at least keep us somewhat competitive in the middle.

Unfortunately both Dow and Lalor are hurt and out of the line up while Smillie is yet to get his shot, but I'm quite bullish on how our midfield can function once we do get the mix the way we want when they are all fit and available.
