Thank goodness for that coz keeping Simpson to keep our culture in tact has been so important to us winning games of football over the years.

Trading Simpson wouldn't have helped us win games either.

Hawthorn torpedoed Hodges, Lewis and Mitchell, Geelong got rid of Chapman, Stevie J and Kelly and the cultures of both those clubs are just fine.

I'm not sure about Hawthorn's culture. The Rioli saga comes to mind.

Nah, some players are untradable as they affect the very fabric of our club. Just like Kade Simpson not having much success. We would never have traded him as it would rip apart our culture.
I don't know, at some point maybe the culture needs a reset, as uncomfortable and unpleasant as it would be in the short term.

It does, but not everybody is on the table. Cripps is Carlton for life now.

Here is Simmo reacting to being told he might be traded

And here is Simmo reacting to being told he would retire as a one-club player

Correct - whilst he was not traded per se, have a look what Eddie betts departure did to our club. His departure directly led to the downfall of both Garlett and Yarran. I still believe if he had remainders, those players would have continued their good form and Yarrans life would have turned out much different

I had always though a big part of Yarran going off the rails was when he broke up with the young lady who, I think, worked at CFC?

What age were those guys when shipped off? And what did they get in return? Also do you know if they’re had any success prior to that?…

Simmo played in 215 losses... what culture?

He was beloved. One of my favourite games was where the team fought and bled to win for Simmo in his 250th. Bryce Gibbs was throwing up if I recall correctly. The outpouring of emotion was immense.

I think people confuse the term culture and how it applies to football clubs. Collingwood dumping Grundy and Treloar, might’ve been seen as negative impacts to culture especially how the club treated players under contract. In hindsight they were good decisions that facilitated the recruitment of some current players and developing the winning culture everyone gushes about when taking about Collingwood.

Being ruthless in the interests of improving the club and winning is not a bad thing.

On the same note, a player losing more games than he wins can still be a positive influence on culture.

We didn't have success with Chris Judd, but he was a good pick-up for club culture.

I don't doubt that he was beloved by fans and team mates...

Unfortunately for him, he was part of a losing culture for the vast majority of his career.

Trading him would have resulted in disgruntled fans and team mates, but the culture at Carlton was already torn.

Aren't you advocating for us tanking next season to get picks one and two?
