Now, this is a contentious one that is absolutely worthy of a thread.

It's well known that Stewart is a thug with a history of bumps, not to dissimilar to this one.

This bump was in days gone by, a perfect example of a bump, but it's 2025 and these bumps are no longer excepted!

Here is why this is contentious. The bump is still a, albeit small, part of our game. We want to see bumps, we love the bump, but not outside a contest for the ball!

How i see it is Anderson is going down trying to collect the loose ball when Stewart sees his opportunity to hurt someone. At no stage did Stewart look to contest the ball, actually running past the ball to make contact with a wide open Anderson. Thankfully for both players, he didnt get him high.

The bump did cause Anderson's head to make forceful contact with the ground and he was most certainly distressed as he laid on the ground for a couple of minutes before he was helped to get back on his feet.

He was cleared of a concussion but taken to hospital to get his "chest" looked at.

This has a lot of Jackson Archer/Luke Cleary contentiousness feel about it!

Lol what a stupid post.

two players going hard at the contest with the ball, stewart goes low and braces for contact and executes the perfect bump.

No head contact, goes low. Anderson has no concussion.

If you want to teach the bump to juniors, you would show that clip.

Players need to learn that when there is impeding contact, brace and go low around the waist. This way the likelihood of concussion is lowered

It wasnt even a free kick let alone suspension

Yes, very stupid and yet you still replied with a classic "player from me team" response!

I dont think it was a reportable action under current laws. But running past the ball and laying a bump calculated to hurt a player contesting the ball is not in the interest of the game.

Scott's comment around Stewart providing as much duty of care as he could in such a situation is just BS. At a minimum, he could have at least tried to contest the ball

Serious question.
If Stewart is a thug for his one bump on Prestia which was horrible then what is Houston?

Chris Scott spending half his presser trying to get Stewart off was pretty unedifying. Fwiw I don't think he should be suspended but can't Scott just keep his trap shut and let the mrp do their job?
Sam Mitchell is no saint but when Meek got Lipinski late he said he hoped the latter was ok and that he wouldn't be commenting on a possible mrp sighting. That should be the stock standard response imo

Please explain the history of being a thug.

There was the one incident of a late hit on Prestia. He immediately felt remorse and advised that he would accept whatever the tribunal decided was fair, without challenge.

Please name one other incident that demonstrates he is a thug. Just one please.

The Geelong tall poppy syndrome has gone into overdrive again. We should be discussing the Jed Walters late hit, which was not a reasonable football action, was late and was high. The Stewart bump was none of these, noting that bumps are allowed within 5m of the play.

So, instead, we have people like you starting with the use of 'thug' and bemoaning an action that for 100 years has been celebrated....a perfectly legal hip and shoulder.... While not even commenting on the Jed Walters incident that was missed by umpires, yet is something most agree should be a suspendable action.

I'm guessing you are 13 years old OP?

Doesn't look high to me but that doesn't matter. There's still a grading for body contact. Just a guess but I'd say 'careless', Medium impact to the body - Stewart won't contest it. So. that's a fine and a couple of bucks for the end of season trip.

Spin the chook lotto wheel on this one though. If Anderson's scans come back with any significant damage it will be upgraded to high impact, which is a week. And, if Cat's stupidly contest, it's 2.

Of course it matters if it’s high. It’s the only thing that matters in this.

Where’s the matrix for a bump to the body?

Feeling remorse doesn't mean you didn't do it.

Are you joking?

It’s a bump mate. It’s not a strike ffs.
Use some common sense. You’re allowed to bump. Are you allowed to strike?

Show me a time where a player has been rubbed out for a bump to the body.
🤦‍♂️

And shit if you think Stewart is a thug I’d hate to think of what your thoughts are on Crowley as a player. Or when solomon elbowed ling in the face and broke his jaw.

Look in your own backyard before you jump on anyone else you fool.

Absolutely no case to answer.

Reasonable force, below the shoulders, opposition expected contact, ball in dispute so couldnt tackle.

You really must have an axe to grind here against Stewart and or Geelong.

I have no idea on whether this is a suspension, purely because the AFL rewrite the interpretation with each incident.

Have seen 2 incidents with late impact classified as ok recently, so wouldn’t surprise me if this is given 2 weeks.
So whatever it is, it is.

it's an interesting one

pretty good technique (or luck) to not get him in the head so credit goes to Stewart there - if he collected his head he'd be gone for a couple of weeks easily

but he went straight past the ball and went straight for the man - I guess this is a bit of a litmus test, is this considered ok still aslong as you don't hit the head?

--

whatever the mrp decide (either letting it go or citing him) won't surprise me either way

I thought if you choose to bump you're responsible for the outcome?

Won't be cited because there was no concussion but if Anderson did end up concussed from.hitting his head on the ground it would have been an interesting one.

We've established years ago there's no such thing as a perfectly-executed bump if a concussion ensues.

Think you’ll be waiting a long, long time for LOLchie Schultz to respond with proof “it’s well known Stewart is a thug with a history of bumps not dissimilar to this one”, because there is no evidence except for the Prestia bump 3 or 4 years ago.

Jeepers. Bit off the deep end there mate. Maybe go for a walk or to the gym?

Arguing with stupid always frustrates me.

Throwing around the term “thug” when your own team has a history of them is pretty rich and goes to show you have a fish brain.

Ballantine, Carr, Solomon, Crowley.
The list goes on.
