Sheldrick for me.

Could throw Will Philips into this question too but I wouldn’t bother with Tunstill or Dev as I think majority would vote for one of the other 3.
Erasmus for me if WC are chasing another mature body, cheaper option with upside and decent agility.
Good that WC are throwing the net wide again with some links to W Phillips/Erasmus/Sheldrick/Cameron.
Probably chasing Chesser replacement options already, and cheap help around the midfield.
Wonder who else is on the radar?
Busslinger for Gov.

I think Blight will be linked soon as the key back. He will have a few clubs asking the question though I would’ve thought.

Ruck will be a focus but can’t see a clear replacement if it’s not Cameron. Sweet (contracted) or Reidy (OOC) possibly but both clubs will likely won’t to keep them as back ups. Not sure if they are much of an upgrade on Flynn sadly

Henry Hustwaite should be under the same considertion as Erasmus/Sehldrick/Cameron/W Phillips
Last 3 weeks in the VFL
38 disposals, 25 contested possessions, 12 clearances, 9 inside 50's and six tackles
35 disposals – 18 contested, 11 clearances, four inside 50s and five tackles
32 disposals, 14 contested possessions, five clearances

He's very slow, which has been the knock on him from Hawks supporters.

Erasmus or Shelldick

Who would we prefer?
Neither.

If we pull Sharp and Rodriguez this draft, we're looking at need an elite outsider and a Redden type.
If we pull Sharp and Lindsay this draft, we're looking at need a balanced mid and a Redden type.

Not sure either of this guys are that type of player. Prefer Dev for pick 80, see if we can get Hobbs for a R2, or just find someone in the draft. Can Hough, Hutch, Gross, or Grego be this player?

To be fair, we already have Clay Hall doing the below yet still can't get a game under McQualter.

30 Disposals, 3 tackles
30 Disposals, 6 tackles and 2 goals.
30 Disposals, 5 tackles.
32 Disposals, 9 tackles

Unfortunately the WAFL website is pathetic so i can't provide CP's, clearances or inside 50's, but daresay they're similar.

This is for a rabble like the Beagles too mind you, not an experienced outfit like Box Hill. Other clubs looking at WCE list would cite Hall as a good target.

The stats of someone who deserves a call up to play the last 5 minutes of the match.

Ironic you panned Priddis and whether you're draft him again and here you say you want a redden type, who was exactly who we got in to fill the Priddis void.!

I really liked Hustwaite in his draft year and hoped we'd take him. Very interesting prospect with his size and traits. Good to see he's putting it together in the VFL and not in the 1's. No idea if we could shake him loose though.

So we're now linked with (in terms of midfielders);

Sheldrick
Erasmus
Dev
Will Phillips
Bont (loosely)

Am I missing anyone? Excluding Bont as the obvious choice, I'm leaning towards Phillips, then Erasmus, Sheldrick and lastly Dev...in fact I'd rather take a punt on a late pick than waste a spot on Dev, but understand we are thin for that age bracket in the middle.

C'mon, if you were arguing Dev against a pick in the 30s, you might take the punt, but a guy on the fringes of the reigning premiers would be worth more than a dart at the board after 40. I think people underestimate how many players fail to make the grade. It's about half and at pick 40-50, it's probably closer to 80 per cent.

Different skill set.

Priddis is a possession monkey extractor. Redden and Stenglein were big bodied defensive inside mids who were only getting 15-20 touches per week. Cera plays the same role for Carlton. You don't want these guys get 30+ per week because then they start being counter productive.

I think Redden would have had a bit more than 15-20 a week in 2018 when he came second in the B&F and was our player of the finals!

Defensive extractor is what both were. Pridda number 3 on all time tackles.

You'd hope Sharp and Rodriguez are B22 next year if we target them in the draft, they won't be spending a whole lot of time as genuine centre bounce mids though.

If we are any chance of being a team that isn't a basket case next year it means no 18-19 year olds as starting midfielders.

People need to stop thinking just about the the AFL side.

Last weekend we had WAFL top ups named on ball in the WAFL despite having a reasonably healthy list (2 mids on injury list). We need more than just Sharp and Rodriguez, we need 3-5 additional midfielders on our list to be able to fill both AFL and WAFL team with actual midfielders and to create competitive tension.

Erasmus is a cheap and obvious choice, and who knows, he could be our Ned Long.

What?

My expectation would be that whoever we draft with that top 5 this year will start on flanks and slowly be transitioned into the middle. Like what we did with Hewett.

Let's hypothesise that we take Sharp and Rodriguez. I suspect Sharp is good enough to spend a fair bit of time in the middle (although my wanting to draft him has nothing to do with this - I want the best player, plug and play, or not). So we start them on flanks. We still have Harley, Hewett, Hough, Ryan, Graham etc to run through the midfield. Maybe even Yeo. We still have Gross, Grego etc to run through the Beagles.

The Beagles should not be considered when drafting. We have enough midfielders anyway.

So apart from those top end picks, we have some NGA talent we'd like to draft, and maybe some KPD and SF types. We shouldn't be recruiting for the Beagles.
