I missed most of the game yesterday, where did he play?

Can't fathom the calls to drop him to VFL. He's doing great at AFL level for a first year, the more game we pump into him now the better.
Wing. And has a forward line that don't present options to kick to.

Look at you being all helpful and informative.

He's got all the makings of a 300 game club great. The only knock on him is some of his kicking has been putrid. I'd bring in Blight and give Trainor a month in the magoos to work on his kicking. Even give him kick in duties. He needs that extra time to settle and compose himself. The speed of the AFL and constant pressure of being In a 💩 team is doing him no favours. If he adds polish to his game it's a greater benefit than getting another few senior games in him.

Needed the bye but i also think needs VFL time. No shame in developing in the VFL as a Centre Half Back. Whichever level he is at its clear he is a backman so play him there

Not sure where some on here get the idea that playing vfl footy will improve his execution at afl level.

Vfl is slower paced and in every aspect of the game inferior = more time for someone like Trainor to execute the kicks he's unsuccessfully attempting at AFL level. In U18's this was his draft profile:

"Another of Trainor's most valuable assets is his kicking. He is often tasked with the kick-in duties and backs himself to pick off aggressive passes. He hits the ball sweetly and gets good penetration, which allows for opportunistic switches of the play or looks inboard. Although, selecting the low-percentage option sometimes puts his side as risk of costly turnovers.

Usually quite composed, Trainor's ball use wavered a touch during the National Championships, where the pace of the game was at its highest. He looked a little rushed under pressure at times, but was competitive enough to chase up his mistakes, and confident enough to continue to back his skills. As far as talls go, few can distribute or rebound the ball better."

There was an article recently where he was rated one of the worst kicks in the entire comp. He clearly needs to work on that as its supposed to be one of his biggest strengths. I'd rather see him go back and put his focus on improving, where that extra second and few meters allows him to do so than keep the status quo. In the long run him improving his kicking by 10% is far more valuable to our next flag tilt than playing an extra handful of games in one of the worst teams in history where he'll constantly be under the pump. Will do his confidence a huge boost too.

I’m not too concerned about his kicking.

Just for examples Rance and Grimes took about 4-5 years before they stopped making crucial mistakes by foot and it’s a good thing Trainor isn’t going the safe option down the line and not afraid to take a challenging kick in a debut season.

He’s probably our Vlos replacement in 4 years time, I’m trying to think back to his debut years but my memory aludes me on how he performed.

Vlastuin's early years were ones where he didn't have a suitable position to play.

He was a first round draft selection, so we knew he had some chops, but Dimma never knew where to play him. I recall he did a summer of on-ball stuff in preparation to go into the midfield, but that lasted about five minutes into the first pre-season game.

His first three or four years were really in the wilderness. The only real benefit was that at least he was getting games in the seniors every week.

The approach to Trainor's first year has been massively more organised.

As I’ve said all along he torches the footy
Champion Data also backs this up. Rated him as the second worst kick in the comp a few weeks ago.

I like the intent that he has by foot, but he does try to bite off a bit more then he can chew.

I don’t think it’s confidence.
I think one of the reasons we’re playing such a conservative style moving the ball forward is so players are where the ball carrier expects them to be.
He needs to get through the kick quicker and he needs to get better at it when it’s hard to do it.
The more he takes on kicks the more players will try and make themselves available for them, you’d hope.
Hawks had alot more teenagers playing together 4/5 years ago than we have now.

This kid has been butchered. While some say kids needs a break he has been kept going from bumps to head and we know his past, to moved away from where he was playing good footy and learning the trade. Sometimes i wonder what goes through the masterminds heads. Am I wrong on this?

Trainor was playing this season as an 18yr old.
He’s saved goals in Def and has played as part of the structure as a def. He’s taken intercepts and it looks like they trust him.
They’ve floated Brown fwd at times late but it looks to me like he’s cheating and they’re trying to pinch a goal.
Trainor is getting played in the structure up fwd. He’s getting played in the fwd transition structure on the wing. Learning the running patterns learning where he can be/ should be as a def or an attacking option wherever he is in the ground in relation to wherever the ball is.
A 6”5 19 yr old who’s played all three areas of the ground in 12 senior games.

I think Trainor has Captain potential.
Keep playing him.
