Everyone knows Carlton’s engine room is there strength

Dunno... Think we didn't plan well for weather conditions either

I feel like when we come up against these big bash and crash midfields like Carlton, GWS, GCS etc we having one hand tied behind our back given our midfield is full of guys under 21 and missing big bodies (especially without Yeo and Hough).

Given the results against teams in the first 4-6 weeks I thought we did ok, particularly after the first quarter.

Today showed why we need to trade in a guy 22+ who can play as a genuine inside mid like a Philips, Erasmus type etc.

Today could have been much, much worse than what it was. Feel like we got through without going backwards.

Shuey is getting off a bit too easy too. Standing flat footed at the stoppage to move towards the contest knowing its direction might have worked well for him who had very good 0-20m pace but when our actual players dont his stoppage style simply isnt going to work. Hewett is the prime example. Hewett is at his best when he is on the move in a stoppage, not when he is standing flat footed trying to judge where the ball is going all the time.

My frustration with Shuey is the club probably wont have the courage to move him on given all he has done at the club. Personally id be more interested in moving him on to be head coach of the WAFL team and a new stoppage coach comes in. I wouldnt mind throwing the kitchen sink at someone like Amon Buchanan from Sydney who I think are the best at it in the league for the talent they have in it

On the right track.

Kick straight against Norf and we win that game. Should have beaten Richmond and Essendon. Stuck it right up Geelong for three quarters and we felt pretty good. What if our bad quarter vs Geelong was the first quarter? We'd be ropeable. Flip it to Carlton, what if it was tight for the first three quarters then we shat the bed in the last? We'd probably be more OK with it.

Still a couple of midfielders short, and a quality ruckman. Almost certainly losing Pick 2 which hurts the rebuild big time. Although I don't think we were ever a realistic chance of someone paying Oscar Band 1.

Connection between the midfield and the forward line is broken.

Best mid with Pick 1, then I don't know after that with the Hawthorn compo.

We actually were terrible in the 1st quarter against Geelong, they just couldn't kick straight, unlike Carlton.

We've gone from 0 good quarters to 1 if we're lucky to 2 and sometimes 3 💪

We need more high quality mids (Pick 1, Pick 2 if we're lucky, some sort of split of that Pick 2, however we do it), plus a ruckman that can at least break even, but I feel out biggest issue from a coaching perspective is the breakdown between the mids and the forward line. We can't capitalise on what periods of dominance we do have because of the appalling quality of those inside 50s. Hopefully it's keeping McQualter and his assistants up at night devising a solution.

On the couch guys going in to bat for Mini. Called out the senior players bat graham & baker big time. Called them fat cats who are just cruising around on good money.

Pretty much said what else can Mini do. He’s dropped some of them, moved them into different positions & so on. It’s on the players and they are the ones who need to decide if they are going to make a difference & turn up.

100% agree with this.

Is there that many of them anymore?

  • Kelly: maybe.
  • Hunt: I don't think he's cruising, he's just not that great.
  • Cripps: plays his guts out.
  • Ryan: had a bad day yesterday but I'd have him in our top 5-10 B&F.
  • Duggan: like Hunt, but plays his guts out.

Who or what am I missing?

That's about it. It's the same shit the media say about every team that is struggling.

Apart from Essendon who have been decimated by injury and are brave.

Essendon have the 3rd lowest percentage in the league and are 2 goals away from sitting in 16th courtesy of narrow wins over North and us

Cripps just ain’t putting it in defensively.
Allen is ****ing useless and only wants cheapies out the back
Flynn shows glimpses of being a star around the ground but gets monstered in the ruck
Baz gets monstered in the ruck

There’s no way you’re watching Allen dive on every ground ball on the wing to belt it forward any way possible and arriving at that conclusion.

No pretending his impact was any good yesterday but it’s absolutely not for a lack of effort or taking an easy way out of any contest.

All the other assistants should be shown the door as well. The club has gone backwards in skill and defence under the current lot. Time to start afresh,

They listed Cole amongst the fat cats but didn't mention the experienced outs in Gov, Waterman and Yoe. Usual garbage, also did not mention we outscored the blues for three quarters - somebody did something.

With the soft cap increasing finally there is definitely an area for improvement.
Remember mini has only been in the job 5 minutes and would still be working out what he has on his hands assistants wise and also with Worsfold.
There is a paddock full of coaches at WC, and I can understand why there is still so many assistants, development coaches, etc. as mini needed support and stability also.
I don't know the credentials and contract status of G Bell, L Webster, J Brennan but there would be 3 that I would start with.
WC obviously rate Harry Taylor around the club and seems very well regarded by players, he also had a high performance role with Geelong which I would assume was standards setting and development, could easily replace a couple our many development coaches with someone like him.

Cole's more a shit cat than a fat cat.

Mini has inherited nearly all of Simmos paddock of assistants and development coaches with the exception of the useless Matthew Knights who returned to Victoria and was replaced by Mello. Shannon Hurn was a addition this year.

Mini probably had no say on who he got as assistants. Mini has proved he can coach and should be given a free hand to choose who he wannts instead of the ******s he inherited. Time to change things if we want to go forward.
Why isn't Harry Taylor who was a top class defender at Geelong coaching our backline instead of that Dorker Luke Webster. Give Mello the flick and bring in Josh Kennedy.
The development coaches should be spending their time on the beagles. Maybe there are too many coaches/cooks and the players are getting mixed messages on what and how to do it.

Carlton took their foot of the pedal and we never really threatened them. We didn't really outscore them by much.

For sure, but now he has got his feet under the desk, I am sure Mini knows what and who he wants.
Bello looks to have a decent role with Mini, see him a bit on match days so I wouldn't be starting there.
Way too many development coaches for me and non descript roles.
Development coaches are working with most of the players under 24 probably, must say our development since Mini got the job has been very good with the younger group.

Ambrose, The solution to the problem you see is right there, get rid of the mids and forward line assistant coaches.
Time to get ruthless or be content to stay at the bottom of the ladder for many years to come.

The crows forward line has vastly improved since Bello left. Finally we have drafted some decent younger players that we can develop. Have a look at the size of the entourage out on the ground during the breaks.
