A sad end to what was a really good career. But Jeremy's health and safety must always comes first. 197 games, a club Best & Fairest, 5-time All Australian and 2018 Premiership - so many achievements. One of the best defenders of the modern era. If there was ever state of origin played in the Rance and McGovern era....those two on the same team in the backline for WA would be a nightmare for any opposition coach.

Well done Gov, great career.

Gutted, just gutted. Selfish feeling as his experience would have been so good for the club for one more year but obviously health and his future comes first.
Will go down as one of the all time great defenders along with the likes of Jakovich, McKenna, Woosh.

Just hope he has retired with his health and head in good nick so he can have great post footy life.

Time for the next generation to step forward and hopefully unearth the next generational defender for the Eagles.

Good luck and thanks for everything Gov, you (were) the man.

The web was built around intercepting defenders and he was the leading intercepting CHB that changed the game.

A brilliant player. His presence on the team selection always made supports (and likely teammates) happy.

Glad he got through the initial period and did not go back to Albany and become “that fat tradie”

Incredibly sad 😢 But it is for the best by the sounds of it. Shame he couldn’t get to that 200 and beyond to help mentor our young KPP’s.

What a career. A West Coast legend 💙💛

I'm pretty sure that's the last of the Woosha drafted players gone from the list. Gov was drafted in 2011 and didn't play his first game until Simmo's first year as coach. Cripps played in Wooshas last year as coach but I'm talking about blokes he actually might've had a hand in drafting.

What an era.

I feel so flat :(

But Gov owes us nothing and his wellbeing /health after footy is the priority

The best defender I’ve seen - and yes I was around for Jako, Rance, Scarlett etc. Seeing neutrals echo this makes me feel it isn’t just bias

Thank you for everything Gov

Not all neutrals are echoing that. I have McGovern right up alongside Scarlett and Rance equally, but not better. Far too hard to split them.

Outstanding career by Gov 👏

The absolute gold standard of defenders, ever. Goes into our hall of fame.

Big love for Gov.

I'll never forget seeing him turn up to training in Pat McGinnity's shitbox looking a million miles away from an AFL grade footballer. Somehow turned into one of the best to ever play CHB.

First game in six years I attended and it happened to be his final one. Was not far behind the hit itself and it looked quite hard. Such a shame to lose yet another player to concussions.

During the 2015 season I remember never, ever being nervous when the opposition team bombed it into the forward line, knowing that McGov was likely to mark it anyway.

Absolutely f**king devastated and gutted. Not so much for us fans not being able to witness him playing again, but for Gov himself since he would've loved to continue.
He always put his body on line with no regard for his wellbeing.
I always knew this would be the outcome but it's just hit me like a ton of bricks.
Literally shedding tears at work. I hope nobody comes over and sees me lol.
Never cried about a retirement before, but this one hits differently.
Well done to one of the greatest legends of the club and the sport.
