The Tiger Cubs return home to the MCG to take on Essendon in what should be an interesting game to watch. Both teams are heavily invested in their respective rebuilds and will be featuring quite a number of young players looking to establish themselves in the league.

Richmond will unfortunately be missing number 1 pick Sam Lalor and Hugo Ralphsmith due to injury, while Noah Balta will also miss due to the court imposed curfew. Which should see the likes of Taj Hotton Jayden Short and Jacob Koschitzke in the mix for senior selection.

The Tigers will be heading into this game looking to rebound from a month of poor performances while Essendon themselves will be looking to respond to a last quarter fadeout against the Suns.

Richmond will need to pay close attention to the likes of Merrett Caldwell and Martin, with Merrett and Martin dominating against us in the Dreamtime game earlier this year.

Possible Line Up

Out: Lalor Ralphsmith Balta
In: Hotton Short Koschitzke

B: Broad Miller Blight
HB: Banks Vlastuin Short
C: Trainor Prestia McIntosh
HF: Mansell Rioli Campbell
F: Hotton Faull Koschitzke
R: Nankervis Hopper Taranto
INT: Brown Sims Ross Sonsie Alger

I don't think the experiment of Trainor on the wing has done him or us any favours. He looks so much better behind the ball.

And I don't want to see Short in the backline, much rather Brown, so time to try Short on the wing. He is not part of the backline long term, so why put him there.

Don't expect us to win but am hoping for a more competitive showing. Expect the Bombers will take plenty of uncontested marks to keep us at bay as they did just 7 weeks ago.

Based on the club pumping up Short, Hotton, and Green's games on the socials I dare say they will be at least 3 of the changes. Hopefully Short's return doesn't impact Banks' role, who has been brilliant. Would love to see Shorty on the wing taking the injured Ralphsmith's spot, or through the midfield to give us some pace and line-breaking ability. Wherever they put him Banks needs to stay at HB and remain the primary user coming out of our D50.

I have been impressed with Trezise too, think he is also a good shout to come in and cover the wing. Hard at it, good in the air and runs all day.

Whatever the changes, just want to see us competitive and not get blown away. We should be able to keep touch with the Bombers for 4qtrs.

Morning all, I'm in Melbourne for the week (for the second time, first time was way back in 2012 for a few days either side of a Falls Creek honeymoon) and I'm going to the Richmond vs Essendon game. Will be my first game at the G (doing the MCG tour this week too). Pretty pumped. Any tips or suggestions? Will be going by myself, wife and kids are having a movie and snack night in the hotel. We're staying on Collins St. It it an OK walk to the ground on match day or should I walk to the big arse train station that's just down the road? I also splurged a bit on a corporate thing (money straight into the Richmond coffers...) I'm unsure if it's worth it but ... I'm also keen for that 🤣

Will there be a big crowd? I know neither team are flying but they are big clubs, but I'm unsure how they've been filling up the G this year. Hoping for that Big Vic club atmosphere! 🥳

Welcome! You shouldn’t have any issues purchasing a GA ticket at the gates. Should still get 50-65k at a guess.

if we had Lynch or Kelt I say we win this. I still give us a chance. Just think if we somehow win the next 2 we could be higher than Carlton on the ladder. No way Hotton doesn't play. Dare say Kosi will play forward. Would love Godcus to come in but probably needs a few more. I honestly do not get the short hate. Would look real good on a wing

there's a few in the VFL that could be rewarded
Short looked more than ok
Hotton looked
Kosi very good down forward
and I've been pleasantly surprised with Young , he needs to be tested at AFL sometime before the end of the season
and Trezise has been very consistent and again needs to get another chance at afl level

I'd be trying something like this.

Alger is out with a syndesmosis.

I'd try Young forward, Brown on the wing.

Out: Lalor (hammy) Ralphsmith (hammy) Balta (curfew) Alger (syndesmosis) KMac (omit)
In: Hotton Short Koschitzke Young Trezise

B: Broad Miller Blight
HB: Banks Vlastuin Trainor
C: Brown Prestia Sonsie
HF: Mansell Rioli Campbell
F: Young Faull Koschitzke
R: Nankervis Hopper Taranto
INT: Hotton Short Sims Trezise
SUB: Ross

Assuming you’re staying up the east end of Collin’s Street it’s a nice walk to the ground across the Fitzroy Gardens. There is also easy walking from Fédération Square along the river (Birrarung Marr) with a footbridge over the rail lines to the city end of the ground.

Short in and dare I say it, part of the midfield rotation. I don’t think I can stand another week of TT,Hopper and Prestia with Kmac guest starring. I’ll take any new face in there at this point.

Trezise and Hotton hopefully get games

Yeah, need some mids with pace in there.

Reality is that KMac and Prestia will surely retire this year.

Love them both, and there's actually been some good footy from them this year, but to suggest they should go on is utterly insane.

Need to get serious minutes (2026) into Lalor, Smillie, McAuliffe, Sonsie if he's around, Alger, Hotton etc.

I'd trade Short.

Give Ross another game primarily in the midfield and play Rioli up the ground similar to last week.

If our midfield have a blinder we're a slight chance otherwise no.

Bringing in Koschitzke is absolutely dumb… offers nothing today and nothing going forward in our rebuild. Worse than giving KMac prime minutes. Would rather we just line up with Faull & Simms even if they cop a pasting
