Yeah not sure they are that well positioned. They have some old crew that are about to retire - wines and co. Not sure who their young stacked brigade are. JHF, Butters, Rozee then it drops off significantly. Darcy Byrne Jones and SPP are crap/bog average. They lost Houston last year and Karl Amon before that. Jace Bogan won’t amount to much. He’s too light weight.
I live in Adelaide and most Port supporter mates think they are cooked.

We need Butters to come back to Melbourne because that will really cook them. I think whether Nas re-signs or not at some stage he’s gone and unlike this year we need multiple top 10 picks coming back our way to make the whole thing feel better.

They can afford to have players request trades out, or for their development to fail etc because they have another 2-3 sitting in reserve.

If one of our top picks doesn't turn into a gun player then we are another year (or more) behind.

If the people in charge don't understand this they're incompetent. If they do, and they aren't fixing it, then they are complicit in what is, essentially, a rigged competition.

It's something that the NRL does completely different to us. From my understanding, a player can sign a FA contract 12 months out and still play for their current club, and everyone knows it.

It would be a massive cultural shift for the AFL because we are still romantic about player loyalty, but it would save these awkward situations like TDK where everyone knows he's leaving and he has to pretend he's not.

Wasn’t what we needed? Have to disagree with that, if one of the best players in the league join you make it work.

Look at our bottom 6 players in those years, Cousins coming off the bench into the midfield would have easily made us a 3 goal better side

I understand the stress and anxiety, I feel it too as a long suffering Saints man, but NWM is signing a two year deal with St Kilda. He’s about 8 weeks away from being named AA and B&F winner, so why sign right now when you can squeeze out a few extra dollars.

This will also make it infinitely harder for the SA clubs to acquire the trade capital for a player of his age, trajectory and soon to be accolades. Everyone involved would know this.

I smile when people think the AFL is a sporting organisation. They think they are in the entertainment industry, so decisions are based on creating an entertainment package that attracts the most sales from tickets , Tv, merch, etc. sort of like Disney. They only need to create the illusion of running a competitive sporting competition. Sort of like wwe- everyone knows it's not real.

The problem is the crooks normally come with the players on the Morton bay bugs. Just don't need that element

My worry is that we're going to have these 2 year circus' until he eventually goes home.

Of course we have to back ourselves to improve so he wants to stay in 2 years time, but there is a realistic option in that we try trade him at the end of next year / when his contract is not ending so we extract the maximum possible value. It just feels inevitable that he'll be gone before our next window.

Doesn't really matter if they can't ever set up a stable environment because pieces keep leaking out and being replaced. Flanders has lost value without midfield minutes.

You could do worse than cashing some fringe talent there. Moyle, Alex Davies, Joel Jeffrey, Fiorini types would all be pretty cheap. I reckon Knobel might get pushed out for list spots ad is uncontracted. Looks a really talented kid.
