It comes up every year around trade time, people just have no idea what negotiation is about and how to navigate it.

“If I was x I would tell them they have until y to do z”

Completely arse about.
Everybody has an opinion, it’s a forum afterall, and everyone is bloody nervous about it. If you can’t see that this is probably the biggest contract negotiation, and the most important one we’ve had since probably Plugger - then I don’t know what more to say. There’s an absolute fortune riding on this decision.

Of course they do, they're just incorrect.
And I agree with you re: the importance of the signing, however I'm not sure what it has to do with negotiation tactics lol

If NAS goes we are half way towards a full rebuild anyway. Unless we get Butters or JHF back, which we won't there are no ready made players that move the needle and keep us competitive.

Which means picks, so everything gets pushed back a few years. So essentially if NAS goes you can absolutley forget about us being competitive in the next 2 years. I have NFI how we would score at all if he wasn't playing.

So NAS gone will align with Wilkie and Sincs coming towards the end of their prime.

Whether we like it or not, NAS leaving is essentially going to kick off a full rebuild anyway, because Port won't be giving up any quality ready made players.

May as well trade Marshall and Steele if this occurs. We could keep Wilkie and Sincs around but it won't matter, they will be seeing out their career in a non finals side.

Tassie coming in is the reason to be aggressive now, not wait until it's too late.
He’s a half back whoop whoop dame a dozen easiest position on the field these days with the kick out rule and stand.

I’d be gutted if he was a key position player or dominant mid, he’s not.

Because NAS either wants to be at St. Kilda or home. He has a really good relationship with Lyon and would want to do the right thing. The two parties aren't isolated his manager doesn't do the deal and then tell NAS whats what.

In the doomsday scenario you propose where everyone is an asshat. PA and Adelaide offer peanuts then St.Kilda say best of luck getting home in the draft and where does that leave NAS and his manager ? Beyond that where does that leave any further business negotiations between the clubs going forward.

It's not credible that the Saints would force him to the draft, never happens and won't happen here. So there's no onus on Port to jump through too many hoops to get a fair package together - they'll just offer something that everyone knows isn't enough but which can look vaguely legit. Most likely a 2025 second and a 2026 first.

If the PSD thing isn’t credible then why do we have to accept two future firsts?

I’ve been the biggest advocate for we need to be reasonable but if that’s the best port has to offer let him go to the PSD and pick him up again.

In reality if Nas has as good a relationship as were led to believe he would re sign with us before he would ever risk the PSD (to maybe wind up at west coast or north).

I think this is a rare case where no deal actually winds up being okay for us (provided we don’t just filibuster the trade period).

Christ guys, is it really worth getting so worked up over something we have no control over, if Nas goes the world doesn't end, it's just a game.
Plugger left and we survived, if it happens that he leaves we will get decent compensation ( I hope )

Well that’s the point.
We can’t figure out how that happens and we don’t get shafted.

If you shut up I'll give you Ryan Byrnes and pick 62 for Caleb Serong.

The CEO of the AFL personally delivering our decent/adequate compensation

Oh yeah I tend to agree. I just think the other poster saying that "everyone's doing their jobs" is being pretty unrealistic about the misaligned incentives in the situation.

Wish they hadn't updated the crest.

I really liked "Fortius quo fidelius"

That's one thing we had. Supporters had loyalty.
Supporters have the loyalty.
(Which based on our history is astounding really!)
Players, not so much.
Or at least increasingly fewer of them these days.

True but very poor form Captain, melt.

Port have been a top 4 side for years and are stacked with good young talent. I think externally people would look at them with more hope than us in the short term.
Yeah not sure they are that well positioned. They have some old crew that are about to retire - wines and co. Not sure who their young stacked brigade are. JHF, Butters, Rozee then it drops off significantly. Darcy Byrne Jones and SPP are crap/bog average. They lost Houston last year and Karl Amon before that. Jace Bogan won’t amount to much. He’s too light weight.
I live in Adelaide and most Port supporter mates think they are cooked.
