Reid is one of the smartest young football players I've seen in quite some time, he has a real nous for the game, so glad we picked him up.

Whether or not he wins the award, he's the Rising Star in my heart, and that's all that matters.

Im going to get hate again but the truth of the matter is Curtin has traits that give him a generally higher ceiling. In the AFL era, The generational players are generally close to or 190cm + (Fyfe, Danger, Franklin, Pav, Cripps Pendles, Judd, Darcy) with the smaller top 5 player types rarer (Naicos, Gablett, Neale).

Thats not to say he cant be something incredible juat that the path is easier for Curtin.

Honestly, id prioritise Curtin over anyone else for the foreseeable future, he is the closest thing to Pav we've seen and a Freo die hard.

While this is true maybe your reasons actually make it lean the other way …. true magicians are harder to find

Just catching up on First Crack now and Montagna gave him a big pump up and said he should be in front of Curtin. Said that SI of 15 is the 2nd highest game for the season in whole competition. Highest was Tim English with 17, and half were hitouts to advantage.

Also brought up that a 20 goal and 30 score assist season has only been done once before by a rookie. Cyril Rioli. Reid is on 30 score assists (8th in comp) and one goal short. I don't see this score assist stats on the websites I look at. Just score involvements and goal assists. So interesting to see some numbers.

How bad was his body language in the derby particularly when he shoooshed the crowd after his 2nd goal with his finger on his lips gesture despite being 40 points down and the game already over. I have him into Caleb Brownlow to win $2k. But Caleb won't get it done this year.

Murphy Reid is all the good stuff of Sidebottom, Pendles, Toby Green and even a smidge Jeffrey Farmer with his taps to space and awareness around him.

It’s so good ‘knowing’ you have one as opposed to hoping one develops.

We just hope he develops into a superstar. If he remains as is for 10 years he’s still a gun.

Not just fortunate slider, but in an area we desperately needed.

Why is Murphy playing well ?, because he has a good bunch of good damn leaders, guiding his footy career.

I still remember his parents comments about the Dockers and the replies from Murphy when he called to say he would debut 'What a club" was his dads exact words. Im confident he'll be at freo for the long term. Early days I know but geez he seems to love and appreciate everything Freo's done for him.

I see the comparisons to other players, but Reid plays more like Cyril Rioli as his stats indicate too - he’s just a tad slower. The deft touches, vision, contested ball wins when seemingly out of position or outnumbered, ability to create space where there shouldn’t be any or hit targets that even the crowd watching don’t see.

All of these things caused nightmares to us when we played Hawthorn in that 2012-2015 period and there was simply nothing the team could do about it. Stoked we now get to enjoy watching Reid (and Bolton) do this to other teams.

The next step is getting him some midfield rotations.

A center bounce featuring all our part time mids in Jackson, Bolton and Reid would be very fun to watch!

He has the highest footy IQ of any first-year player I can remember seeing. Maybe Ablett Jnr might be in the contest, I'm not sure.
