That’s precisely the point. You use your cap to get better. Not giving it all to retain what you have when you are at the ass end of the ladder.

You take what’s fair. You sign on and the club will build around you.
ooooft, really is a comprehension issue, although at this point real basic maths also seems to a be battle.

How about this.

That 2m we didnt use on Rowell, cause he still plays for the suns (theyre the Gold Coast team) is now just available.

We could use some of the $2m (remember that were now NOT using) to bump Nas up for 2 years, we wouldnt even have to use all of it, we could use the remainder on other stuff we need.

The beauty of money saved is you can spend it on nice things.

... i didnt say Nas would take less though did I? Also didnt say it would be picks, also didnt say wed be in contention.

Did say that all those scenarios wind up being better than losing Nas for ports shithouse 2 futures and Bergman or Berry. I mean worst case we just get that same deal in 2 years time when we know were trash anyway and are starting another rebuild.

It is a comprehension issue. All good brother. You keep at it.
That’s all they will have in 2 years anyway you monkey.

The same players will be OOC. They will be putting the same picks on the table as they have academy and father sons coming through.

They won’t be adding a first round talent this year.

And you counter Tasmania by saying they will trade with them. If no one wants to come play for a shit load of cash for us in vic. They will have similar issues in Tassie.

Club was wrong on Billings and Gresham and battle.

You all carried on and yet…. The club was right.

We have got FA back for any of them except Battle and then it only improves us if Tauru ends up better than him. The club might be right long term but right now it's impossible to call. If we kept Battle and were on the fringe of finals maybe it attracts FA and Nas is more likely to stay put. Every action has a reaction. No right and wrong as such. Just providing the coaches with a list capable of competing. At this stage we have gone backwards. Hopefully it's short term pain for longer term success but none of us know for sure.

They wont have traded Butters? Or have the potential to move stuff around. Remember when no one wanted to go to GWS and GC when they came in (yeh that didnt happen did it).

Again, only one person adamant about what 2 years time looks like, it aint me big dog.

I didn’t realise we were out of the market for talent this year or next.

So guess it’s not just all saved money.

I have watched Derksen before. He is another third tall, not a full back

If we get him then we're just adding the same type of player as Tauru/Barrat/Wilkie/LOC who can't all play in the same side

I'd like to see his 1v1 contest numbers and the stats of his direct opponent

How dare you talk about Derka Derka in this thread. Don't you realise this is the Nas Battle Royale thread?! Shame on you!

Pretty sure he would be RFA so we can just match any bid and force a trade... so the exact same position we're in now... but maybe with a better player/port and adelaide having better assets to trade

Don't think it takes him to FA. Good point though.

There is no guarantee they trade butters. That’s your assumption.

Out of an entire league of clubs you are banking on them taking ports gun players for their top picks.

And they can move stuff around now.

Your idea is based on best case and not likely outcomes.

You know bumping Nas up from your agreed $1.5m (with Rowell and TDK) would only be about $500k more than were offering him now.

Thats leaves $1.5m to attract other talent, which would be.... The highest paid player in the league in 2025. Or we can use it on other contracts we have, or even split it amongst both.

You reckon id be a terrible negotiator, youd be a ****ing deplorable book keeper

He will be a free agent though. No trade, just a compo pick. And if the mumours about a protected first round are true we are talking end of first round in Tassie diluted draft. There are big risks either way. It really isn’t a great spot for the club to be in.
Restricted free agent

Means we can match the bid with our money and force a trade

It's not a compo pick unless we screw up our cap like Carlton have for TDK

No its based on possibilities Stav, which again, are endless and all more positive than a future first and a limp wristy from Ports board.

They might trade butters, they might trade rozee, Tassie might give them picks 1 and 2 for Lachy Jones, who ****ing knows.

Theres endless potential, all of it better than us trading Nas at the end of this year.

I have no idea what's going on in the background but i do know one thing , Nas is going to be one of the best players in the league if he already isn't ( yeah i know ground breaking news) but you just cant go completely mental and offer him crazy money just because we want to keep him.
I don't recall clubs like Geelong and Brisbane back in the day when they were always in grand finals paying crazy amounts to one player , they all stuck together and took less to win flags , its called a team not an individual.
We have a lot of good young kids coming through who in a year or so who could be demanding big money for their next contract and how's it going to work out if we cant keep them because Nass and his manager has bled us dry.
Players i see taking massive steps are Garcia, Hastie , Box , Hall, Tauru, Keeler when he gets his sh1t together, Dodson plus the general improvement of blokes like Windy , Hammer , Sharman , Tobie, Windy, Wilson and if the giraffe can get on the park (although Max has already taken a fair bite of the pie)
We need to offer Nas a fair deal and if he wants to stay with us he does, if he wants to go home so be it , you cant just keep throwing cash at him , sooner or later you need to say we have been more than fair and if we want to keep this list together this is all we can afford to pay you.
Who knows in Two years time Tauru maybe the hottest ticket in town demanding more than Nas and we say sorry but we spent all our cash on Nas
All this wine and dine bullsh1t to show we love him Bla Bla Bla ( as if he doesn't know that ) its time for him to decide and stop playing poker.
We all hope he stays but not at the detriment of loosing several others in two years time IMO

I wonder how they managed to convince those guys to take less money?

stavro#4 any ideas?

Painting me with a broad brush. Never said the club was wrong about Billings, Gresham, or even Battle for that matter, but this is going into nuffy territory re Nas.
That ship has sailed, reached destination port, come back and is in salty runback territory now with additional tariffs.

we're purely in the padded room section of the discussions taking place.

Similar to the Windy scenario, we’re just going to have to reach middle ground with Nas and his manager and get this deal done.

It’ll be too far a bridge to cross, commercially alone, if Nas leaves. Let alone in terms of list management. Kiss the cap goodbye - we won’t have the talent to spend it on, so I’d err to the side of having the issue of blowing out the cap.

It also sends a horrible message in terms of buyer beware that we’re not prioritising our own people and backyard.

Basic risk management says we need to pivot to get the Nas deal done at all costs.

The problem is we are trying to find middle ground but NWM's form just keeps giving Williams leverage to demand even more, meaning we continually have to stump up more money

At this point its not even worth trying to meet his demands until NWM's form plateaus. Once it does, then we negotiate

Yeah it was a risk dating back to the day we drafted him. It’s why Gerard Healy said we made the wrong move, despite people dancing on that a few days ago
Nah that's a rubbish call by Healy.

Everything is a risk - no one can predict how anyone will feel, react, behave etc 4 years into the future.

Pick the best available - simple as that.
