Re: 'Alleged' rumours resurfacing ...

Folks, this is the way things are here.

Posters are responsible for what they post. Moderators can not attest to the accuracy or otherwise of any rumour posted.

Moderators will intervene for a couple of reasons.

1. If a thread is threatening to be derailed because of a post.

2. If invested parties request the removal of material.

None of this draws a conclusion as to the accuracy or otherwise of the original post.

There is no need to further speculate. What will be will be.

Also, you need to remember that this thread like all parts of this forum is bound by the rules of poster conduct. If you want to express skepticism towards a rumour that's fine, but having a crack at posters who are contributors to this forum is simply not on and will be acted upon.

Simply put, don't be a dick.

Thanks all!

Not having a go at anyone in particular, but I certainly don't believe in the club messiah philosophy that we have fallen in love with previously. Players such as Judd, Coaches, CEO's and Presidents - still ring true. GW seems to be another, and I am very, very sceptical.

I also just can't see how we could seriously expect to believe to be competing by losing, TdK, JSoS and trading Charlie, Cripps and any other experienced player you want to add to this list. We've seen what the delisting's and trades of some experience players over the past 2 years, let one the injuries and other issues have done to us this year. No-one can save a team from such changes.
Agree mate. What club has ever imploded to the level that ppl here are suggesting? Brisbane really suffered when patty karnezis and Billy longer walked out on Voss. As if Cripps tdk sos and curnow go. Ridiculous. This forum is reaching Facebook levels of catastrophising.

Reality is 7-8 guys have had their career worst year. They’ll bounce back and the list can be re-jigged quickly over the next two drafts/trade periods without having to jettison every star on the list.

It's interesting isn't it.

I can't imagine the senior playing group being too upset about the likes of Marchbank, Martin, etc being delisted unless they held an underlying (maybe even unspoken) belief that their bodies/injuries were mismanaged by the club.

I mean you can't blame a club for parting ways with players who can't stay on the park, unless you think the club is mostly responsible for that, can you?

If it turns out they are just unhappy because their mates are gone, with 0 appreciation of their injury history and the value of list spots, then they need to grow up and realise this is an AFL club not a community centre.

I hate to say it but the more that’s being said the more terrified I am that we’re going to blow it up completely. If we trade Cripps Charlie Tdk and Jsos in one off season then forget any sort of bounce back, that’ll be the soul of the club gone, if it isn’t already. So much generational talent completely wasted
Nup, the sustainable soul is Hollands, Cowan, O’Farrell, Lord, Smith, Carroll, Camporeale, Moir, O’Keeffe, White, Charleson, Dean, Walker. Throw in vets Weitering, McKay, Newman, Hewett, Haynes, Williams and Pittonet and a thin mid tier core of Walsh, Cerra, Cottrell and Kemp. A few more names who could be added in there. The cupboard will be far from bare. Any pain should be short lived.

The fascination becomes Elijah if thought is being given to retention. If rampant rumours have basis it would take a monumental act of forgiveness from one bloke in particular. If fit and firing adds a “layer” that is clearly missing at present, but it is a long way back with potential for disruption very real.

Looking at rebuilding in a heavily compromised draft and one that lacks star factor and depth will be a total disaster in a few years.
The draft may be a but light on, but there are plenty of viable names to fill our possible/likely gaps from this draft. We are fortunate to not be in desperate need of mids, and have dibs on the best KPD.

Fly is a gun coach. Gw literally chose him and others over Voss. And you're laughing at fly? Stop attempting to shit can the rumours. The takes are weird.
Nah you missed read the post, “the rumour” has been mentioned many times that GW “wasn’t too impressed “ with Voss and doesn’t rate him.
Whether true or not people are hoping this means GW will sack Voss at years end.

They all took hundreds of thousands of dollars less to stay at Carlton than what they were offered elsewhere.

They weren't cheap but they all took less.
They took a million or more before the TV right increases. I'm assuming they weren't fixed and have now increased as the Don's and WC were the only ones publicised to not have percentage increases.

Yes one or two other clubs may have offered 'more' but they are well and truly not playing on unders. There are guns at other clubs playing for significantly less as they do actually want tram success.

To clarify the rumour - Charlie is still on the way out?

In which case based on all the rumours thus far the off-season could be - TDK, Cripps, Doherty, Curnow, JSOS, Acres.

+ potentially 2 from the list of Saad/Mcgovern/motlop/Durdin/Fantasia

Would certainly make for an interesting off-season
All in a year when the draft crop isn't great at all.

There’s almost too much to respond to in this thread!

First… I would be very surprised if TDK, JSOS, Curnow, and Cripps were all allowed to go in one offseason. The concerns over Graham Wright as CEO are on his commercial acumen. He’s not going to torpedo his membership numbers. I’d say a maximum of three of those four leave, with maybe some tinkering on the rest of the list like Motlop and Kemp. I still personally believe Melbourne last year was a greater dumpster fire than us, and the eventual change was minimal.

Second… my main interest remains on the people Wright appoints to run the footy side of things. For decades we’ve had a habit of bringing in one good person and surrounding them with deadwood. When that good person fails, we send them on their way and replace them with another solitary good person who fails. Until we build an actually united and innovative team of football department staff, we are going nowhere.

As far as the rumours of the players being disenchanted by the loss of Marchbank, etc is concerned, why wouldn’t it be true? If I am JSOS, I look at Jack Martin and wonder why my own injuries can’t be managed as well as has happened at Geelong. I then look at Matty Kennedy and see what happens when picked to play in the right position. Why wouldn’t players look at those examples and have it brought home to them about the level of mismanagement at Carlton?

Finally, if Cripps is off, I’d agree with the perspective that we won’t get much in return. If the rumours of Cripps and Curnow departures are on the money (and I have my reservations that both would go), the question does have to be asked at some stage as to whether we do want to retain TDK. $1m isn’t enough to retain TDK. But $1.2m might be. If so, do we want to go there?

Respectfully, if they were the “soul” of the club, I doubt we’d be in the predicament we are in.

One of my points was that he seen plenty of times players looking around and exploring their options.
He won't panic. After a yr of observing he will have formed a view on what is making said players unhappy.

i just dont think the eagles will be offering high draft picks for a 30 year old Cripps

Mid first is fair, especially in a poor draft.

If we get Hawthorn's pick back for him, lets us either use the TDK compo as a live pick or trade that on and still get dean and ison without compromising 2026 picks for walker.

Lots of catatrophising in here.
Well we’re about to turn into Richmond in one off season without a super draft to get us excited, two of our juniors have done ACLs. A third generation Carlton, blue blooded part of the furniture is leaving for our arch nemesis. Our game plan is atrocious, and our players can’t kick. We are about to lose our head coach or keep him, whatever is worse

But he short-listed him (along with Kingsley) from a field of 92 names?

What a weird individual.
I think the part he missed was at the stage of, game plan presentation, which was the 3rd or so interview. This is where Voss floundered.

I wish I could find the article written in the Age after they won the flag. It was mentioned in it.

Mid first will end up closer to mid 20s once academy, father sons and free agency picks are accounted for.
