Would have loved a mankad to win the series, and India running straight to the airport with the trophy like some kind of Monty Python sketch.

Alas

Test cricket is the best sport in the world when it involves Australia, England or India and at times South Africa

Any other team and it fails to deliver
What you mean by this is that you only watch Test cricket when it involves Australia, England or India.

Even a nothing series like New Zealand v Bangladesh have played 4 Tests in the last 3 or so years and 3 of them have been absolute crackers.

NZ have had their moments too, like when they beat India in India last year.

Pakistan, Bangladesh, West Indies and Sri Lanka being so poor for the last decade has really hurt international cricket though.

Imagine the spirit of cricket outrage if Woakes faced a ball at the body that he couldn't get out the way of

I think it bounced off a crack but from memory when Smith batted with a broken hand Johnson got him absolutely flush on it and no one batted an eyelid - he didn’t say a word (he was obviously in pain but understood he would get hit).

I think even despite all the pissing back and forth, the English would know and accept that he’s at risk of getting hit. I think…

All 4 of those teams have either beaten or drew series with Australia in the last decade. "So poor" is a stretch.

Fantastic test series captaincy debut from Gill too. What a result!

Fair call.

A tough one to start off, without Kohli or Sharma as a wise elder statesman by his side.
And then no Bumrah for 2 tests, lost Pant behind the stumps as well for the last two tests.

Rallied the troops nicely, and of course led from the front with the bat.

God you’re right! Not sure what I was getting confused about. We’re now definitely favourites for the Ashes!

That’s the spirit!

Flat track Harry gone, India probably still aren't that much of a chance to win but at least it gives Bethell another chance to bat.

He is a batsman worth watching if he gets going.

Not sure he will have a place in Aus.

Woakes doing this for newspaper pictures and pats on the back.
And thoroughly deserved those will be!!

You don’t think they’ve gotten better since:

Rory Burns, Dawid Malan, Sam Billings, the Ollie Pope that batted at 6 rather than the one that averages 42 at number 3
They're definitely better since then, with Brook and Duckett both being significant inclusions, but Crawley is still a walking wicket more often than not, and Pope averages 36 at 3 if you take out his 205 against Ireland and 171 against Zimbabwe.

Crawley is nothing more than a plonker BUT he is a plonker with purpose.

Previously his sub-par offerings were made at a modest strike rate, with infrequency, and with a stoic opening partner at the other end so even when he did occasionally make a start it was often to the tune of his team being 2-50 after 15-20 overs or something before he invariably was out for 30 himself. Now he’s at least got licence to get those runs quicker, he has a reliable opening parter so an increasing amount of times when Crawley does somehow make a contribution they end up flying to 50+ at 5 an over.
