Do you mean Barry Hall? We got Dal Santo with that pick.
Also Heath Black and Trent Knobel.
Black was traded for Fiora
Dal Santo’s compensation pick was traded for Longer and pick 48 which we traded to GWS for Josh Bruce
Bruce was traded for 2 picks, one was for Byrnes and the other was traded to Sydney for Zak Jones and another pick which we traded to Richmond for Dan Butler.

It’s worth going back to see how we got Barry Hall.

The pick came from Carlton for Craig Davenport who played one game and had six disposals.

So in total for Craig Davenport who played one game for Carlton we got
Hall 88
Dal Santo 260
Black 54
Knobel 41
Fiora 62
Longer 57
Bruce 99
Byrnes 80
Jones 71
Butler 106

A total of 918 games and counting

If you can't read its not my fault. It is simple, but obviously to complicated for you. Understandable as you haven't much of a grip on most things.

We have been crying out for a superstar player for years, someone who can take our team deep into the finals and also make the club successful off the field.

We could be an absolute powerhouse on and off the field with NAS. If I can lend a word from a previous ex-coach then I would say "juggernaut".

That's how important NAS is to this clubs future.

Get it done!!!
Another thing to remember is that the youth are drawn to the watchable impactful players. A player like NAS, coupled with a team that competes and wins consistently, would inject new young blood into our membership to carry us into the 2030’s.

Having said that TDK can have the same impact. 6”8. Blond. Blue Eyes. Mesmerising.

I hope the club understands it's standing at a series of very important sliding doors. We need to ensure we open and close the right ones this off season. It will have a generational impact on our future.

I desperately want to believe the club is reviewing and reassessing all aspects of the business continuously, rather than just mindlessly trudging down a pathway because someone thought it was a good idea in April.

It is probably worth considering that if Nas has committed to St Kilda for two more years, and given how many trades we have up in the air at the moment, that we may have asked Nas team to wait until the off season to ensure we can work the numbers to deliver the best possible outcomes for the club as well as for Nas, Marshall and Windy.

As I said that’s what I would like to believe.

I hadn’t quite gone that far in my assessment of Tom….but ok …that’s all fine etc if you feel it good for you 👍

I reckon we haved moved past Aleer.

Abandon his contract offer, give the money to our existing players, who are starting to grow and show what we drafted them for.
We may have moved past Aleer. But we haven’t moved past needing a durable lockdown fullback. It’s a glaring hole in the list.

Highly doubt we'd drop our interest in him after he's already told the Giants he's coming to us

750k for a high-upside full back isn't as bad as people are making it out to be with the new CBA. Might be a slight overpay by ~100k but that's what you have to do to get someone out of their club

If we need money for Nas then Steele is the one to let go imo

Problem with SOS is he gets tunnel visioned on what he thinks is right and wrong.

He left GWS and was obsessed with taking from them what he had picked.

Leaves carlton because he thinks its unfair to spend more on betts and not offer more to existing players.

Then leaves Carlton and suddenly we are a new home for all the Carlton players he likes.

So Im not surprised the news is nas is capped at 1.4m a year for 2 years. Whilst tdk gets the greatest offer in st kilda history at 1.7m a year for 7.

He's absolutely toxic.

But the thing is any decent board or executive would step in and end this shit. Its been left to fester way too long and now its past the point of intervention.

Sadly we still don't have the leadership we deserve.
I honestly mean this with the straightest bat.

You wouldn't actually know 4/5ths of **** all about what SOS actually does, his motives and his relationships with players and colleagues.

Everyone can have their opinion but posturing it as fact is a bold choice. If you think things are truly as you state and you don't think Ross or Bassat would have stepped in by now there isn't much else to be said.

Actions speak louder than words.

Its based on outcomes.

Biggest salary cap room we've ever had and we've lost battle. Can't bring in a decent star player and now we're looking at throwing 1.7m a year at tdk whilst not retaining the most important st kilda player in a decade and a half. Possibly two. Brilliant.

Lose battle at 800-900k but go after aleer on crazy money. Amazing list management.

I'd love to here why we shouldnt have "stepped in by now"

Question- who would you rather have ? - battle or tauru

What are the rules around when players can officially sign with a rival club?
I only ask because if TDK can only sign post season but has a sudden change of heart we suddenly have a $1.7M hole in our cap for next year.
If that was the case why would you sign a contract now. Wouldn't it be prudent to wait until all the comings and goings are official on the books before committing to a figure on your own contract?

Right now battle.

But guess what we could have had both! Which is an important point given they're playing opposite ends of the ground at times which should be our plan

Tauru has potential and loads of it but we are miles off him playing anywhere near the consistent level battle did and is.

Now we are spending roughly the same money on aleer. Plus hoping we can turn potential into the actual. Taking on all the development risk. How do we know the Viking won't go to another club like battle did?

I hope he can get there.

this one really aged well, some all time melts for a slightly better than average third tall that turned into pick 7 or whatever it was, on the open market he was worth half of that, made out like bandits!
I think youre under selling his current season. Fox had him as the 3rd best defender.

He never was a third tall. He's a genuine CHB similar to Rance.

Love some of these posts about “can’t believe we going to low ball out best young players” how do I know that? I’ve been told we have given Nas and Windy two very good deals better than other clubs, we as a club are doing everything we possibly could to keep Nas so stop whining at the club what else could they possibly do?

StC, look at everything that the club has done for young Nas. Save from offering him a deal to be the highest paid player in existence before he broke out (which still might not have been enough based on the lack of activity now). Revisionist history and hindsight is great, but none of us, not even SOS could see the impact he would have over the last 6 weeks and the media beat up that would ensue.

He doesn't act like he has a problem with the St Kilda Football Club, so why would he risk the psd rather than signing for two years?

Unfortunately there's no risk in the PSD, never has been. Zero chance of WC or North or whoever taking a guy who doesn't want to be there, that never happens and won't happen here and everyone knows that.

If he's going then he'll move back to Adelaide in early September, turn his phone off, ignore the news, just wait until Port let him know when pre-season training starts.

We have no negotiating position here. Never have. We're going to get wrecked.

Watching this thread has been a wild ride over the past few days with literally zero news coming out.

We all know how this is going to play out, everyone just has to come to terms with it at their own pace. Congratulations, you guys won, but if you can't understand why Saints supporters are getting upset about losing their best player with nowhere near enough compensation because of reasons completely beyond their control then you aren't much of a human.

Interested to know just how you know this.
mentioned quite a way back that I’m mates with a couple of players.

Not having a go at you at all, but no one here is going to reveal their exact source, real or not.

I’m certainly not sharing with an attempt to be ‘correct’ just sharing some of what I know
