Pendles set the tone. Get the ball from the first centre clearance and instead of putting the ball to the top of square, he kicks it to the boundary. It told me nothing changed. We then kept going around the boundary.

There is no joy in this team anymore. The players now look afraid to make mistakes.
Yes, I recall seeing this and thinking something similar. It went to nobody, maybe a Hawk defender initially. We do that so much with our forward entries going so wide and they all just fizzle out. We can't score with entries like that, what are they thinking?

I NEED TO PUBLICLY APOLOGISE TO CHARLIE DEAN.

On tonight's evidence I cannot assume Frampton is better, nor argue that point with people.

I (for some reason) still back Frampton to improve beyond Dean. But that might be a fool's hope.

But yeah, apologies where they're due. At least Dean was in the right spots. Frampton looked like he was playing a different game.

As much as I don’t want to give any air to journos maybe contract stuff has affected certain players
Some of the Ones mentioned have gone off the boil

Our midfield is a shambles. We keep picking glacially slow guys like Pendles, Mitchell and Long. They are all too slow to break away if they win the ball or run-down opponents if they don’t. If you don’t agree - check-out Pendles’ tackle count tonight - zero!

Playing one of them is bad enough but playing all three of them is insane. Cue the Benny Hill music!

Here are the guys we should be playing through the middle - Nick, Josh, Perryman, Crisp, DeGoey, McCreery & Allan. If that means there’s no spots for Pendles Mitchell and Long then so be it.
Allan in the middle - he has to show he wants to be first to the footy and is prepared to wear a hit first. Haven't seen that in his game yet.

Why are we not playing MaCrae ahead of Mitchell at least? Surely we can't keep denying MaCrae opportunities and playing Mitchell, with Pendlebury, Sidebottom and Long in the same side!

Steene and Hayes would have been better choices at selection instead of Pendlebury and Mitchell, especially given the zip of McCreery and Hill is missing and we're coming off a short break. It makes no sense to play 3 talls up forward (effectively 4 as Elliot also plays tall) when Schultz is our only crumber.

Our structure is out of whack and Lipinski needs to return to the wing as he's not impacting up forward anymore.

Elliott looks terrible and can barely kick 40m atm. Has been a completely different player for the past 5 weeks (from memory).

McStay was backline tonight but hasn't looked likely. He's usually good for a goal or two a game.

OK last one - Darcy Cameron got his butt kicked 😭😭😭

Pace was not an issue when we were winning every game early in the season.

The system/chemistry/confidence has just completely fallen apart because of all the chopping and changing and cute management.

So you’re fully across all the ‘chopping and changing’ and know with confidence that it shouldn’t have happened? Or should have been done differently?

I agree our confidence has evaporated- I just don’t know why this has happened.

They're not that scary, we're just that bad.

Agree.

Hawks are a good team, but we were deplorable which made them look like world champions.

Whatever has impacted the playing group seems to be between the ears. Dispirited performance.

Sam Mitchell acknowledging in his presser how the Howe incident could have determined Collingwood's fate. I hope Jeremy will be OK. It's all that matters.

The only positive I can get out of this is how much fun this board will be during the week.

Gunston would've kicked ten if Dean played

Elbow your husband in the ribs for the rest of us, please.

The rest of the season becomes a true test of Fly and our resolve as a Club and playing group.
We have enough genuine high quality leadership to at least be optimistic all is not lost

ok bro, just put the fries in the bag

We've done remarkably well this season to defy age and by extension all logic but it looks like father time might finally be coming for us.

If you thought tonight was a result of us being to old and slow then worryingly our age profile isn't improving next year.

Even more worryingly we might have little choice but to extend all these veterans as not enough young players are stepping up and demanding to take their place right now.

Still, If our season meekly peters out from here it's hard not to sense it'll mark the end of an era, it was our last chance to win a flag with such an old group and very soon we'll have to take our medicine and reset with a new generation of Collingwood players.

On the evidence of tonight I'd rather that be sooner rather than later.

Football has not been fun since we defeated Hawthorn earlier this year.

Dour struggles and lucky to escape wins vs Demons, Saints, Kangaroos, a diabolical outing vs the Eagles, none of these wins were fun to watch or warranted a red wine replay. The odd quarter here or there. Only the Blues game was genuine fun from a playing perspective, but even then we did what we always do and put cue in rack with a limp final quarter. The Richmond struggle should have been enough warning, even the goalless half vs GCS, that we were off the pace, while all other Top 9 teams pantsed the bottom half of the ladder by massive margins.

Well, our percentage just dropped below GCS, so if they win out like they should, and other results go the way of the higher seed, we can’t finish higher than 5the even if we do manage to miraculously win our final two games. Missing out on Top 4 by percentage, or missing a home EF by percentage, or even missing the 8 by percentage, after having gf a massive 140 only weeks ago, is on Fly. He has done it for his entire time here (managing final quarters rather than going the jugular). He promised more Rocca and less Presti after 2023. I’m yet to see it.

We won’t win next week. We won’t get close. Modern football isn’t played on guts and determination anymore like that famous QF night in Adelaide 2002. It’s all process and discipline and structure. So even if we’re spirited enough, we stand next to no chance against that elite forward line. And after we kept the Dees out of the finals a few years ago by a fraction of a percent with a stirring last round win, they’ll have the opportunity to return the favour if other results fall a certain way, and you know they’ll play out of their skins.

I get it, an ageing list, long season, banked more wins than we thought we would so we tried managing players. It failed miserably. The GCS / Fremantle double failure (yes, by just 6 and 1 point respectively, but failures nonetheless) will go down as the biggest mis management fumble in recent Collingwood history after sitting 10 points clear with less than two months before finals.

Celebrating 14 wins indeed.
