Autopsy Round 22 = Hawthorn 110-46 Collingwood

Looks like we’ll have DC and Hill to trade to WA. Both are contracted so we should be very aggressive at the trade table, including a play for Harley Reid, to partner Nick in our new midfield.
I guess it still depends how the season plays out, could still win it. But you are right if we don't we need to be aggressive not sure we could get Reid, but need to add some midfield speed.

This all started when we took Pendles to the Gold Coast and sat him on the bench "resting" for 2 and half qtrs while we watched Rowell, Henderson and the Suns destroy us only to respond with a fighting 0 goals while our spiritual leader gets "managed". What a show of disrespect that must have been to Hardwick and his players and they retorted accordingly. Yes, we mounted an unsuccessful comeback but the seeds were being sewn and it has been all downhill since then. We are our own worst enemy. Seen so many years of promise leading up to finals only for us to fall flat on our face from our own doing. This club should have 40 f*****g premierships for all the gilt-edged opportunities we've created just to only piss away.

I think it's been the worst season of footy I've seen in many a long year. There has hardly been a memorable game. Past seasons have had plenty- at least one or two a week.
Outside of 2020 even which produced some great moments, this is the worst season I have ever seen. Not a single close game at all

To top it off, we are seeing the easiest premiership run by a club. The game we know and love has been destroyed

Might take a break from footy for a while with the NFL round the corner

Houston too. Last week he was getting so frustrated at his teammates and had a blue with WHE. I get why his frustrated, but tbh it’s a bad look.
Not sure what’s going on with Houston. He clearly was given kick in responsibilities and a couple of times I watched him go to get the ball and Moore picked it up and completely ignored him leaving him out of position next to the goal square. Houston was like wtf. I thought Moore needed to be aware as the Captain to be giving the out of form player the ball.

IQ and Moore had a few pointing fingers at each other.

Naicos is also calling for the ball still 15 to 20 meters from the kicker and getting upset when the ball is not distributed to him. Again he is out of position.

Little things but they all add up.

The chemistry is off for some reason. No connection.

Watching tonight, first time I actually think we could be cooked.
Its not even about tonight, but little by little, it's been building since the bye. Or even before the bye. The cracks are there.

We looked slow. No energy, no hunger. No pressure, couldn't chase or hunt. Ball movement was horrific, we were boring.

Not sure how to fix it. You can't even blame one player, it was a collective as a group everyone was off. Lack of connection between all lines. Very disconnected everywhere

Yep Fly say that he doesn't want a boring team. But he sure as hell has given us one. For me it all started KB when Melbourne choked us and we haven't gotten out of that funk ever since.

We're addicted to the boundary. Would love the club to instigate a swear jar like system. Any player who kicks to the boundary has to put $100 into the jar. And we refuse to switch. Every other team switches, but not us. It's pick a side and go down the boundary on that side.

Makes it so easy for the oppo to defend as they only have to defend half of a ground.

I'm too emotional to summarise this game in full, so I'm going to sleep on it first. All I will do is transcribe the post match presser once it's uploaded online.

I saw bits of the presser on TV when I got home. At least Fly looked bitterly disappointed like the rest of us and immediately apologised to the supporter base. I don't think he saw this performance coming.

Fingers crossed Howe is doing okay.

Yes,I agree. The Gold Coast game was the turning point in our season, resting players who weren’t actually injured and playing Pendlebury as the sub. Then the following week we rest Membrey because his wife had a baby six full days before the game.A game that we lost by one point.Hubris had really set in at that point, and it cost us all momentum.

Most of our players 30+ have hit the wall. The season is too long for aging players. And we don't have enough youth to cover 6 -8 players being down on their performance.
Exactly. We don’t have a great ratio of experienced players to young talented players. That’s our issue. You can have older players in the team but you need some fitter, faster talented young players to give you spark and energy and to apply the pressure required to make the other team make mistakes

It's not our 30 plus year olds. They're contributing what's kinda expected of them as veterans. It's our core peak players who are the ones that are badly put of form (Moore, Houston, McStay, JDG) or out injured (Hill, McCreery). Basically reliant on the Daicos boys at the moment.

Yep, I’d take an exciting team that can at least kick a score of 100 points and leak more goals that lose than what we have now. At least it would be entertaining and interesting to watch

The Darcy Moore tap early in the game said a lot and it only got worse. For the first time in a long time, it looked like we couldn't handle pressure. This was worse than the Brisbane games.

To allow Meek, Gunston to take so many marks close to goal. Spoil the bloody ball.

The role players look terrible. Start of the third and we at last looked a bit better but then Lipinski fails to convert. So deflating. WHE what's your purpose now a days?

Darcy Cameron needs help. I know people don't rate Cox but he has to play next week.

Tim Membrey might need to be dropped - not doing enough.

Crisp has lost his zip and spark

Hawks looked so fleet of foot. What was Dekkas saying? If you can't run you won't get a game? We desperately need some players with leg speed.

Fly showed in 2023 he had the killer in him by dropping Noble.

Show us in 2025 Fly, are you still a killer?

Yep he said this HHAHAHAHAH you win.

He also said “get better every day” as expected

You know, I loved how Fagan after their Gold Coast hammering said “I expect our group to respond….they better”

Absolutely loved that bit of venom at the end. Wouldn’t have minded seeing that from Fly tonight.

Not sure it’s even on their page anymore. I struggle to find it on the Collingwood Facebook page

Makes me think they deleted it but I never use Facebook anymore so not sure
That link worked for me, yes that is odd.
Tbh I thought the inspirational speaker guy are training was more odd and concerning.

Too old, too slow.

This has been coming for quite a few years. We should have started phasing out older players immediately after 2023 Premiership - 2 or 3 each year. Some of them could have earned us some decent draft picks if we hadn’t held onto them too long. Now we’re gonna lose 8-10 of them in next two years and in the meantime be forced to continue to play many of them in the seniors because we haven’t recruited and developed adequate young replacements.

There’s also too much nostalgia clouding decisions. Why did we re-sign Pendles so quickly? He should have been a very late re-signing, subject to form, cap space and ability to contribute on-field in 2026. Who cares if he gets the games record. Boomer Harvey was robbed of another year or two by Brad Scott’s purge of older NM players. Boomer kicked 35 goals in that last season and was still fit and fast.

I said exactly this after we won the flag

Was hoping we’d slowly phase a couple at a time out

Flu even said in an interview that Malthouse’s advice to Fly was to phase the older players out bit by bit

Probably should have listened

“True to form”

lmao

You have no clue what you’re talking about and this post proves it

I almost never reply to positive posts when I see them. I’m spending too much time replying to the whiners like yourself who attack me for my posts

No better example than yesterday when I tried to explain the bad vibes people got from that “keep the faith” video

Lo and behold…our instincts seemed to be spot on on that one

It was a weird video for us to put out. It’s not a thing we’ve done before. Ever. It gave us a glimpse into the truth behind the “four walls” that I doubt the club realised they were giving us

We constantly hear the club talk about not taking in external noise and it’s all about “inside the 4 walls”

We now know with 100% certainty that the club does in fact take in the external noise

2 damage control videos in 2 seasons confirms it and it’s a worry
Still going on about your discredited video narrative ? Like I said your default setting is to be negative.
What ever floats your boat sport.

Interestingly enough I listened to Daniel Hoyne on Tuesday and he said that we were statistically better over the last month than in that form slump of 2023. Well it’s clear that stats don’t tell the full story.
Listening to Hoyne. There is your first mistake right there.

Good point. We used to own the centre corridor. Now we never use it. I guess that’s what happens when we insist on selecting ultra slow midfielders. The corridor becomes too risky so we go the stodgy wide option instead.

NFL is worse, unless you go for Patrick Mahomes/chiefs/Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce
