Yes this is an issue, when the team hits a slump, it's the leaders that need to lift. Like Noah Anderson, Toby Greene. At the moment our leaders seem unable to lift and lead at all. We seem to be broken.
There’s an element of not wanting to, our form slide started when we qualified for finals. An old list, and nobody wants to miss out on a premiership through injury.

I’m hoping it’s this because it means we’ll be able to switch back into form when needed.

It's nearly been 24 hours, but I'm still bitterly disappointed by what we produced last night.

Good to see Fly was restrained and sensible in his press conference, but also very clear in expressing displeasure with the performance. I don't think he saw it coming.

Our system is broken and whether it can it be rectified remains unclear. Only laying 42 tackles for the night just isn't going to get the job done especially since we pride ourselves on pressure. Our 2025 average is 65 tackles per game, so this was well down on our usual output. When we played Hawthorn in Round 12, we laid in excess of 80 tackles so a big contrast between the two matches.

It's not the sole reason for the loss, but losing Howe so early and in the circumstances we did rattled the playing group. You could almost hear a pin drop with the way supporter base sat in stunned silence at the ground not knowing the state of his condition at the time. His absence meant our defensive structures were out of whack and we couldn't mitigate the loss, which left Moore and Frampton exposed against Hawthorn's tall forwards.

At the moment, it really feels like our season is gone despite still being in the top 4. I always live in the space of optimism that we'll bounce back and get a run on, but a sense of despondency will pervade many of us for the time being.

I don't know whether we can get out of this rut. Time will tell on that front.

Yet another possible twist to an extremely complex reality. I hope you're right.

No, as I explained in a previous post, I'm basing myself on a couple of well reasoned contributions in this thread.
Reality is an infinitely complex thing, and I don't believe anyone has a total handle on it.
Reality is it's unlikely we win the whole box and dice.

Not impossible but highly unlikely.

As I've stated earlier even IF we hit peak form we'll likely have to travel. Maybe lose top 4 too if we don't win the last two = even IF we hit peak form NOW doesn't guarantee top 2.

I'm optimistic we'll regain form, but form when it's too late is useless < THAT'S the reality and that reality sucks.

Yep, understand these feelings. It is such a tense, unsure and potentially devastating space we live in right now.

Thanks so much for your consistent posts (pressers, GO WOODSMEN!!). They are to the fanbase here on BF what Fly's structure based coaching is to our team.

fwiw, if you read some of the earlier posts in this thread from Pete70 and Upnsmoke, they give real reasons for not giving in to the despondency.

This doesn’t align with you definitively saying “won’t be more than one”

Agree, reality is a probabilistic entity. Entirely.
The overall (macro) characteristics might appear to be very discouraging.
But "in reality"(pun intended), it is the micro elements that unpredictably can transform the entire macro outlook.
That's why you never just look at the macro and lose hope from there.

They’ve been hurting our players hawthorn since I started watching football in the 70s

Hawthorn has always been a club of thuggery.
Leigh Matthews for one. (Though I love him now, he has mellowed since then. But when he played, he was into thuggery in a major way).
Sam Mitchell a case in point.
No one will forget how he deliberately ran into contests with his knees up.

Agree, the form looks worse than what it really.

That doesn't change the reality of the results and likely results to come.
