He was trying to be positive saying the players want him in the side and at the club. However sounds like that is all up to Bobby turning up.

Well if he isn’t turning up to training he wont get picked. Hence he wont play finals after not training and playing in the VFL.

Won clearance, won inside 50… any other week they win that game. No need to change the formula much imo…

Likely only 1 change if Howe fit… and possibly none if he needs another week

Coach not giving off great vibes on Hill… doubt he’s selected this week
I said similar about the Freo game. I said play like that and 9/10 you win.

But here we are. Played like that again and lost again. Something needs to be tweaked at least to improve i50 efficiency.

both sides flooded the crap out of our forward 50. they didn't seem to care how long the ball was in there, they just made it hard to score.

...and this is why I do not get we didn't respond with a prepared antidote.
The flooding scenario is hardly new to us.
GC did it as well.
As others have said, the ability to flood arises if whenever our ball movement is slow.
The antidote is to go into our other gear, and play fast through the corridor. If we show a determinationl to go there, you won't see the opposition daring to flood back so consistently.
Why haven''t we developed a scenario yet for overcoming it?
As other posters have mentioned, more than one game style is needed to win games now. And you has also have to know when to switch from one to the other.

OK, sounds pretty clear that Bobby hasn’t been able to maintain the necessary training/preparation standards and now has to earn his way back in. Hard to imagine that happens any earlier than Week2 of Finals.

I want to see us continue to develop our youth, so hope that both Parker and Allan stay in against the Dees, as part of the starting 22.

OUT - Lipinski
IN - Howe
SUB - Pendles

sounds pretty bad about bobby
its seeming like we just dont have that "feeling" this year that gets you over the line

Not sure that this is a correct appraisal.

It sounds from what Bruzza said that the issues around Bobby are Bobby's alone. The playing group has - correctly - mentally switched off from Bobby's internal struggle, in the sense that they know it is completely outside their control.

Bruzza made clear that his team mates want him to play, because we are a better team when he is included, but they are prepared for the necessary adjustments if he doesn't.

Bruzza sounded very calm, and very rational in his comments. I think his interview reflected strength and makes me feel that we are taking a very sound path in our finals preparation, mentally just as much as physically.

Pendles is about to have a week off

Pendles is about to have a week off
Yeah, I agree, Pendles shouldn't be sub, as he gets a week off after next week anyway.
It seems clear, given that Allan was subbed into the game with only 7 minutes to go, that he is not in our finals' calculations. I thought Parker played a fantastic game against Adelaide, who afterall are the top of the ladder right now. The competition could hardly have been better. He also has a feeling for daring ball movement that we urgently need to have in the team.
I don't want to see him make way for Howe.
IN: Jezza
OUT: Allan
SUB: Lipinsky

Parker's presence in defence along with Jezza Howe allows us to play one of our halfbackers in the midfield constantly (rotationally-Jaicos, Pezza, Jacios) and also gives Sidey leeway to play inside mid. Also allows Houston to keep playing wing, where he has the capability to kick a goal himself, but also to deliver with laser accuracy into our F50, but also into the corridor.

The way we played in the first quarter was brilliant. Why did we stop? The weather was a factor that made it more difficult. Their pressure ramped up. But we seemed content just to keep doing the same thing over and over, which let Adelaide guess exactly what we were about to do. Houston could be a vital element, due to his accuracy in kicking, to break the predictability curse with bold strikes through the corridor that only a highly skilled player could achieve. Give him the brief to do that.

OUT: Continued adherence to a game plan which is not working, IN: switch the game plan between different modes in response to opposition tactics.

On the above technically a 1 point win could be enough so long as the Hawks get up in a close one. The AFL’s ladder predictor is shit for margins, but a 10 point win (the smallest margin available) for both us and Hawthorn would see us finish 3rd or 4th depending on the results of GC’s match. Let’s match Saturday’s intensity though and win by plenty.

100% I’d drop Lipinski (but that won’t happen)

Demoting Allan would be a real kick in the guts. Unfair on so many levels.

Parker’s performance merits continuing opportunity.

In: Howe
Out: Lipinski

Howe to play forward if needed. Idea credited to WalterBlaknWhte

Mitchell vs Long debate is over. We're going with Long, and rightly so.

Dont think playing without either of them is an answer: we can't win finals games without a midfield beast whose role is to be a beast.

With Parker and Howe in the team, we get an additional floating mid from the hb line to play midfield.

Listening to Brayden in the presser about Bobby I don't think he'll be back this year. It was pretty damning.

I thought the opposite. Thought Maynard was really positive, (to paraphrase) players all love Bobby, they’re all there for him. No real indication as to his immediate playing future. Not sure how any of that is damning.

Understand your feelings about Allan.
I think the unfair part was to select him in the first place without genuintely intending him to play 😕

Surely that's on Fly!

Surely that's on Fly!

Obvously one must tread very carefully when suggesting anything critical of our amazing Premiership coach.
He has demonstrated his briliance in coaching.

However, from what I can see from my observations (which of course are highly limited both in frequency and knowledge base ), it does seem that we aren't being coached in a sufficiently dynamic manner atm. We have two different game styles, but we don't seem to mix them up in any kind of unpredictable manner.

This long down the line mode allows team to flood if they have a slight lead on us.

We have not found a forward synergy in and of itself that can overcome the flooding.

So the only way is to change up ball movement. Keep them guessing whether we will attack the corridor or not. Make them scared to all run backwards like wildebeeste.

I just hope the players play with a focus on maximizing percentage.

As long as I can remember, Collingwood has always given little importance to percentage, taking the foot off the accelerator, even against poor inferior teams. It cost us a top 8 spot last year, and likely a top 4 spot this year.

If it is apparent early in the game that Melbourne have checked out, then a 120 - 40 type score line will go a long way to securing a top 4 spot.
There will be a lit of players playing for their future.
New coach coming in and I fully espect this game to go down to the wire.
Melbourne have been in okay form and think they will be a good test for us to continue getting our mojo back leading into the finals bye.

Yep, definitely will be a great challenge.
But we simply have to make sure the wire has alot of slack.
Percentage is clutch.
Need to do everything in our power to smash this game open.
That in itself is a good test.
