You definitely fear this Adelaide team at home and underrate GWS as a threat on the road a bit more than I do, but that's fine. I can easily see us winning or losing most potential finals match ups.

I think adelaide are very beatable there but its 2 things. One the week off would be great for us but its more that it forces brisbane to go the long road. Rather than they beat us, get a week off and a home final and let their banged up players rest. Brisbane are our biggest flag threat so making them go the long way increases our flag chances significantly. They know this so they will throw everything at the QF.

Four-time premiership player and Norm Smith medallist Isaac Smith was asked on the footy show whether the cats would play Cam Guthrie in the finals.

"If he's fit - I would play him."

Keyboard warriors, assemble!

Key there is "if he's fit"...

If either were a genuine chance to play finals, would have thought we'd give one of them a run on Saturday - even as the sub, to see how they'd go backing up from VFL the week before and if they could offer something to the seniors

So would think it's pretty telling that neither Duncan or Guthrie could even make it onto the emergency list for Saturday's training run against Richmond

I think he's also left it pretty open with the fit comment - it's one thing to be out there on the training park, but that doesn't equate to the fitness required to play finals

Man for man, Brisbane is far ahead of everyone else, but they have been brought back to the pack by two things, 1, their pedestrian coach and 2, their injuries. The debate on the first is already done, but on the second, we've done exceptionally well. It is in part good management, but it is also undoubtedly luck as well - we really dont bat very deep. If we lose any of Smith, Holmes, Cameron, Neale, Stewart, Zuthrie, SDK, J.Henry, Blicavs, Atkins and Mullins, then life gets a lot harder.

Miers needs to be on that list, I think behind only Holmes he's our most important player for ball movement

Agreed. Our "big 6" I'd say are Holmes, Miers, Cameron, Smith, Dangerfield and Stewart.

Some might say Stewart isn't any longer, but he's been number one in the comp for generating scores from intercepts the past 10 weeks.

If these 6 have big finals series and are at their damaging best, we will be very hard to stop.

I don't bloody know.

Mids can get on top of us. But every other team is below full strength.

We play the MCG well these days - better than just about anywhere else.

I dunno. I've never been convinced we were the best in it. We may be the best in September, though.
Forwards can also get on top of us. Defenders can get on top of us. Look no further than the GWS or Brisbane games for examples of that.

Yet each of our lines has proven capable of beating quality opposition too.

Brisbane are the benchmark, no doubt. Their midfield depth is scary, even if Neale looks a bit underdone. But we’re fresh, no excuses, and we owe them for last year.

Rayner gives me Dusty 2020 vibes, goes missing for most of the game, but pops up for some clutch goals when they need him.

Dangerfield looks ready to explode, and if he gets going, we can match it with anyone. This feels bigger than a qualifying final, whoever wins this final probably wins the flag IMO

Go Catters.

I hear you. Some qualifications, though:
- v GWS and Brisbane we went in without the overly maligned SDK and Stengle.

And it's just a matter of opinion, but I never really buy the idea that Brisbane beat you with their forwards. They rely on an insane amount of opportunities from perhaps the best midfield ever assembled.

Midyear, we were also still buggerising around with Henry, Neale and Cameron as three tall forwards, as well as the "maybe Mitch?" phase.

And correct me iiw, but hasn't almost every loss involved Stewart copping a freak knock/injury early, or not playing at all?

I don’t like the match up vs Brisbane but I’m also not that concerned because if we lose we get the winner of what is likely to be Freo vs GC.
Than win that, it’s Adelaide without Rankine or Collingwood who have a few injuries. We match on them well normally anyway.

If we beat Brisbane there is every chance we get our other bogey side GWS in a prelim.

After what seems a soft finish to the year I don’t think an extra game could hurt.
If we did go out in straight sets well we weren’t good enough anyway 🤷

The premiership will be won by either Geelong or Brisbane. Whoever wins the QF will go on to win. Teams who finish one to three always win (two exceptions - 2016 and 2024). History also says that Adelaide won't win after only making the eight so long in the wilderness. Although, history is right until it's wrong.

Issie's looking after his mate.

I imagine it would be a much different answer if they actually pressed him on who he'd have to leave out in the event that Cam was selected.
My thoughts exactly. You could hear him hesitate as he didn't want to throw Cam under that bus.

My god are we going to be riding Collingwood home in that semi if we get through.

We've already gotta beat one bogey team week one, surely the footy gods give us Collingwood or Gold Coast in a prelim?
Nothing comes that easy under Scott in finals campaigns. But at least this time our list as about as healthy as it's ever been, heading in.

I know Collingwood are a better match-up but I dread the thought of a Prelim Final against them. Especially because they’ll have an edge with their army of fans. We always seem to play them and it’s never an easy game

We've beaten them 5 times in finals in 18 years, and look as well placed to do it again this year as ever. Their biggest weaknesses are our biggest strengths.

Anything can happen in finals (knocking on wood for Vdubs' sake) but I'm taking Collingwood every day of the week over GWS if given the choice.

It's not quite Kennett curse areas, but we're getting to that point if we have to break the Giants grasp to win a flag.
