I’m keeping Croft forward. He looks a natural

It’s not going to be the easiest role to play as the third forward to Naughton and Darcy who both do their best work closest to goal. I thought Poulter did a decent job of it at times where you need to clear out the space for those two to do their work while still staying a dangerous option yourself. Don’t think Poulter quite had the craft or ability to nail down that spot but I think Croft can do a really important job with his competitiveness and running power

With Jamarra likely not on the list next year, I’d be just about telling Buku that he won’t be traded under contract.

We need the KPF depth and we’d be quite thin with only Darcy, Naughton & Croft with nothing in reserve.
Why bother? Buku is not best 22. If we go down a tall, we play a medium like Hynes or even another small like A Jones. And if we get desperate throw Lobb forward.

Cody will be back next year as well.

If we move Croft down back, lose Jamarra and potentially Buku, the KPF cupboard starts to look a little bit thin doesn't it?
Flea plays a leading forward a lot like Elliot so I don’t see a need for three tall forwards also Hynes will come in at some point.

Very happy with a one year deal for Arty. Hopefully his body can get and stay right

He is one of few role players who actually fill a role that compliments the team. His defensive pressure has always been great but it’s hard to have a lot of impact when getting so few touches and it seems like he is really improving that side of his game. Stays fit and he’d be in my round one side, even with Weightman back as well

Who Grimm either WCE, RICH or NTH are good up and coming key backs that we can pry out?

So it looks like our exit interviews will be done this Friday if Gold Coast wins as expected (Unless we can't at all due to the VFL team still being active). Should hear of some cuts/retirements by then. As usual I feel the club might delay the announcement on a player or two, pending free agency and trade moves. With a final decision made before the draft.

Doc is already retiring. I anticipate Jones to follow as well. Perhaps JJ as well. Buku will likely request a trade.
Tipping Scott and JUH to be cut. That is six list openings there. Treloar will be held off until the VFL teams season comes to an end.

Also not expecting us to be to active either. We only have a 1st and 2nd round pick, no 3rd. And I feel we want to make a play on Butters next year, as well as that fact we may have some decent FS and NGA prospects next year. So we will need a strong hand for next season. So our hands might be tied in terms of landing a top tier defender, with a weak market.

Given the draft is not that strong and heavily compromised. We will probably just promote some within, land a trade and free agent, and just make a couple of picks in the draft.

Still have VFL finals to play out.

Tigers thinking about selling Balta apparently. Not sure he’s the right fit for us but I can see us having a sniff.

Would prefer Ben Miller if we are looking at Tigers scraps. He’s still young and very competitive.

If we are sticking with the no defence policy next year, can Treloar play half back instead of JJ
I was directly behind JJ when he had to compete in the air yesterday against a player of similar size, he was so easily out marked. He doesn’t have much defence in his game and now hasn’t got near the run of Bramble and especially Dale. I reckon his time is up.

Forgot about that. I misread it as only being the AFL team. I assume the club can still conduct exits with those whose season has ended yes? Or does the VFL team have to have concluded their season before any can be done at all?

It's not the press. Its the personnel.

Every side in the competition pushes all of their numbers in the midfield as a defensive measure. What the better teams have and as we saw on the weekend was guys like Shai Bolton who know when to get forward of the ball by utilising their speed to get into space. This is what we just cannot do when the midfield is Libba, The Bont and Kennedy. Richards can but when he's shut out of the game as he was on the weekend. The next in line is Bailey Dale or a faltering Johannisen.

Our wings are two guys who can run all day and are endurance beasts. But they aren't exactly burst players who can break lines and get through defensive zones like Bolton can.

As for the defence. Its an issue that is one of personnel as much as it is of structures.

The reality is that none of Lobb, JO'D or Busslinger have the physicality and size to compete with the games elite KPF. The first two are best suited as 3rd tall interceptors and Busslinger is a guy with 6 games experience and no certainty to make it. You only need to look at the number of times they were rag dolled, pushed out of position or off the ball by their direct opponents on the weekend.

It's been clear as daylight all season and anybody thinking that a clearly cooked Liam Jones was going to make a lick of difference is truly deluding themselves.

It's no accident that the first talk of Tom Barass leaving West Coast last year was when we were being linked to him. That he chose one of our direct competitor's and immediately made them better, sucks for us. But its just a continuum of the historic struggles that we've had at attracting elite talent unless it falls into our lap at the last minute.

It's why we've had to recruit cast offs or tried to reinvent them like we did with Lobb.

Bring out of retirement a guy for one last hurrah, like we did with Jones.

Money balled the likes of Gardner. Coffield and Bramble.

Invest a valuable 1st rounder like we did with Busslinger.

Or punted on Sellwood and Walker in the most recent pre-season draft.

Its a nonsense to think that the club hasn't been trying to address this issue for years.

I'll leave it to you to speculate your fantasy trades that will fix all of this in one foul swoop.

With Jamarra likely not on the list next year, I’d be just about telling Buku that he won’t be traded under contract.

That would be a sideways move at best.

We should let him go and look around for a languishing Voss type or a developing KPForward/Defender and renew the list.

Khamis is a known, known and its time to move him on.

Both parties will benefit form a move.

Really warmed on getting Vlaustuin over for a little while.

Why would he leave a club where he is an immortal, much loved clubman and most of all contracted for another year?

The time to leave was last year when they had an open door policy and were clearing the books going all in on the draft.

Cast your fantasy net elsewhere.

Tigers thinking about selling Balta apparently. Not sure he’s the right fit for us but I can see us having a sniff.

Would prefer Ben Miller if we are looking at Tigers scraps. He’s still young and very competitive.

I watched him play the single worst KPD game that I have ever seen 9 weeks ago.

So if he's the answer to our defensive issues then we're asking the wrong question.
