West Coast - When will the AFL step in?

Not sure it is, it was pick 3 in what was considered a very even draft with no obvious top end.

Hence why north wasn’t able to trade down from their pick 2 and gain anything considerable.
Maybe it’s just how I rate Allan, which isn’t much compared to what you do I presume.

Think Smith is a freak, most did and do.

Can’t give Amiss a tick, the bloke drafted at 57 has similar stats. Pretty rough for a pick 8.
Is that the same bloke who couldn’t get a game for the worst team of the last 40 yrs in the last 3rd of the year despite the eagles no 1 and 2 kpfs in Allen and waterman basically not playing the entire yr?

Yeah sounds legit

Nothing to do with the individual players, I’m speaking of the draft in a broad sense.

Was pretty much the consensus from draft watchers at the time that there was little separating the players rated in the very top end to those rated mid-late 1st round in comparison to most drafts.

Hence why there was such variation in all the rankings leading up to the draft (RMC had Reid and Allan 3 and 5 ahead of Lalor, FOS, Smillie etc).

Not sure WC can pull a stunt like this and then go cap in hand to the AFL for assistance

Likewise supporters can’t complain about not being able to attract talent , players/draftees not wanting to come to the club when treating their skipper and life long fan so poorly

Can’t have it both ways

The media is having it both ways, for years they’ve had a sook that we didn’t move on injury prone players (for what would have been very little) and instead offered them contracts, now we are moving on Allen for pick 2 and it’s a bad move?

What ridiculous move?

Not offer an injury riddled OAllen $1m per year for 6 years?

This article is so brain-meltingly dumb I don't know where to start.

I agree you better off with p2 but pretty surprised you guys didn’t offer a contract at all?

Plus think the jist of it was based more around the hostage interview with Allen at the start of the year - basically say your sorry and you love us/not going anywhere but then don’t come to the party yourselves?

Fair enough I would’ve thought

We reportedly offered 3 years with a trigger at the start of the season but OAllen had been shopping himself to Brisbane since September last year.

Guess WCE just went 'fine, off you go.'

"Off you go" ? Isn't he the clubs captain? That's pretty bad. Actually that is insane. Horrible workplace atm it seems at West Coast.

Yeah edited my post after your reply but think it was much about the interview you made him do earlier basically demanding him apologise(had pykes imprint all over it) isn’t a good a look considering you guys weren’t prepared to make an offer (obviously debatable ) but think clearly weren’t prepared to come close to his demands- meaning Oscar was well within his rights as player to test the waters

Imagine an AFL club letting its captain go via free agency and then getting a priority pick. That would never happen. Surely.

Apart from that time that it did.

There are 18 clubs in the comp and it appears that "Oscar's demands" are only being met by one of them.

Weird interview, for sure.

Terrible look for the captain of the wooden spooner to be caught shopping himself around in-season but whoever thought he needed to do that interview would hopefully change their mind in hindsight.

Should've just ignored it and moved on.

" Off ya go" ? hahah bloody hell, to the captain?? Strange days indeed. Brisbane will do well , they need another key forward.
Will be a good compensation to West Coast on the other hand, you would think. And they need to gain some manners too. Terrible management. It's not on Oscar that he shopped himself around. The club has failed him.

Yeah I had a differing opinion, thought Lalor, Smith, Smillie, FOS, Ashcroft etc clearly ahead.

Benefit of hindsight I rate Smith a lot higher than Allan. Without hindsight trading pick 3 to downgrade is still dumb, given West Coast situation.

No it isn’t, but in accumulation with everything else, when you are in the stage where you need experience, it is detrimental.

Do we really?

We seem to have regular come home players who weren't good enough to get another contract where they were.

Kelly the exception and that didn't work out beneficially did it?

What gun players have we benefited from coming home? Baker?
Yeo went alright. Cripps was an important part of our flag, Jetta,

Then hell yeah to baker -between him and ginbey b and f

Gotta love freo supporters, you scrape into the finals and immediately start spouting off how amazing you are.
How is Quinton Narkle, Ollie Murphy, Charlie Nicholls, Emmet, Davies or Jaren Carr going ?
Talent identification problem? You have drafted Reid and Amiss in the last 5 yrs and not at lot more, Hardly draft guru's
And Patrick Voss

Stretch it to 6 years and we could add Tracey too
