It would be nice for the expansion clubs to get some experience on the MCG in front of a big crowd instead of Collingwood having to travel there every year to give them a revenue boost.

Or whatever excuse they use for Sydney who’ve played Collingwood just 5 times this century in a home and away game at the MCG…

Try Geelong not playing Collingwood at Kardinia Park for over a quarter of a century.

It's hard because in terms of double-ups, you never know who is going to perform in the upcoming season as Sydney, Port Adelaide, Carlton were never really expected to do so poorly while Adelaide, Fremantle and Collingwood all played a lot better this season. What you can do though is make sure everyone plays each other ONCE before any double-ups happen and put a limit to how many games in a row you can play in your home state so Victorian teams have to travel a lot more like interstate teams though instead of playing all their 'away' games at another Victorian clubs home-ground (or getting shoehorned into Marvel stadium).

Although it’s interesting you choose to play Hawthorn every year at the MCG, but then your coach complained about the possibility of playing them there in a final.

I can't be bothered to look for an article that confirms that Geelong don't request games at the G, it's the AFL that forces Geelong to play games there to make up for games that Hawthorn play in Tasmania for example among other reasons. There was a post by a Geelong supporter not long ago that explained this in detail but can't remember the name of it.

Geelong doesn't hate playing at the G to accomodate the supporters base that live in Melbourne but let's be very clear it's not Geelong that decides or demands that, it's the AFL.

Well they’re not going to choose to play a public holiday blockbuster at a suburban ground.

20 teams everyone plays each other once.

Alternate who is home each year.

19 round season might be a bit short. Adversely 38 rounds is too long as well. How can the AFL come up with a fair and reasonable fixture that isn’t lopsided with difficult or easier team draws.

For each attempt at tweaking the fixture they stuff it up even more

They already looking at a 19 - 5 fixture for 2028. Let every 1 play once then 1 extra clash round finally Top 6, 7 - 12, 13 - 19, for final ladder position.
That’s ridiculous.

Teams will be clamouring to be 7th or 8th by the end of round 19.

Let those above flog themselves and lose points against fellow top 6 teams while 7th/8th coast into a QF.

Throw in two byes.

A stand alone SOO weekend of Vic v WA, SA V NSW, QLD v Tassie (winner goes up loser down to change the contest each year and ground)

With 20 teams there are more games than what tv get now. So wouldnt be too short.

Add in a Gather Round, rivalry round and mid season bye and maybe they can go back to starting end of March instead of early March.

20 teams, play each other once each and then double up on a “rivalry” round” to make it an even 20 game season. So 2 x Showdowns, 2 x Western Derby’s, 2 x Q Clash’s etc, saves interstate teams on even more travel.

20 games is more than enough. The NFL only have a 17 game regular season. The amount of absolutely unwatchable games towards the end of this season was dire.

The solution was presented 4 years ago and the clubs stupidly knocked it back.

All teams play each other once. Then teams are grouped into 3 based on ladder position. Top 6 play each other a second time to determine final top 6 positions before finals (i.e. double ups involve the best teams playing the best teams). Middle 6 play each other to determine final two spots in the finals. Bottom 6 play each other again so they dont get spanked by the top 12 clubs in the last third of the season as currently.

Fixes literally every problem with the current fixture.

Geelong chooses to play home games against Collingwood at the MCG for gate receipts.

It’s ironic your coach comes out and says clubs should be able to choose where they play their 11 H&A games, but finals should be at home….hahaha!!

I still don’t understand why we only get to play the bottom 3 teams 1x. We didn’t even make finals last season.
And 3 game win 11 days isn’t ideal.

Not true. Geelong specifically requests games at the MCG against the big clubs.

....seriously this again.

Geelong requests those games because they are FORCED to play Home games at the G, just like Pies at Marvel.
They breakeven when they play at the G IF they meet a certain crowd number...if they have to play say West Coast at the G then Geelong would lose money, they make over a million in revenue per game played at Kardinia.

There is no financial incentive to play outside Kardinia. Geelong will continue to request ALL Home games at Kardinia, it is the AFL that wants to use the Geelong cash cow to meet the MCG games requirement as other clubs keep selling their Home games.
