You don’t count 14 goal assists as more than that’s about it? And playing in a middle to bottom side compared with Elliot Green & Pickett (who played more mid than forward) to actually kick 46 goals goals on the number one defender from each opposition side deserves more respect than what you’ve given!
Thanks Snags, love your work.

I think he should have made the squad but I'm not surprised.

Looks to me like Lyon is in a finals mindset and not really interested in years of development- he's not a developmental kind of coach, and I don't think he wants to hang around outside of finals much longer.
Good.

None of us wants to hang around outside of finals much longer.

While a great year, he went missing for periods there. ( Doesn't help that was far as the AFL are concerned he doesn't have a head )

Jamie Elliot had a Gunston type of year. I am comfortable with that one.

Didn't watch much of the Suns so can't really comment on Long though not sure they fill the same role ?
Fair call everyone sees things differently but if you had the equation of degree of difficulty e.g midfield service where the particular team is with their evolution Jack would be up there as a number one small forward!

Is this because of the % of the salary cap taken up by them or do you just not think footballers should get paid that much?
Firstly it's a team game, and for the first time in a long while, we have a lot of young talent coming through who will all want to get paid which will create salary cap issues down the line. Also think we currently don't have an out and out proven game winning star that deserved top dollar yet.

1. Nas - Very good player. But his numbers are artificially inflated in our team. we're feeding him the ball every opportunity because most of the team can't kick to save their lives. Put him in Collingwood or a Geelong, his impact is not going to be as big.

2. TDK - Talent is there, and has shown in glimpse, but not a consistent dominant ruck man yet.

3. King - Again, talent is there. But can't get on the park.

All on $1M + deals.

If I was Philipou, Wilson, Winghager, Owens, Hall. I'll be telling my manager to ask for top dollar.

For example, I rate Max Hall highly. Pound for pound, he is probably our top 4-5 players currently. He is probably not even making 500k a season. Is Nas 4 times the player Hall is? No, but it does make you wonder when you pay such high salaries to keep up with the jones, how much pressure this puts on the team and individual players.

Anyway, I hope all 3 go on and become absolute stars for us next year and prove me wrong. Go saints!

Battle as solid as he is has NEVER been on the same level as Wilkie.
At Hawthorn, he doesn't have to defend. Because Sicily, Barrass are taking the key forwards. So, Battle is just a 3rd tall who can peel off and distribute the ball. In that role, he does do well but then again a lot of players can do well in that role.

I mean, why not? There's not that much of a difference in talent between our list now, and their list at the start of this year, though they've got more developed talent than us, a definitely more exposed form now.

Bringing in TDK, Ryan, and Aleer lessens that gap, plus if we get full seasons out King, Pou and Howard, we're basically adding 6 best 23 players, with 4 of them being real game winners. Add natural development of the young core, and potentially a little bit of momentum built by late season form and the re-signing of Nas.

To quote the great B Ratten, why not us???
Adelaide are where they are in large part because they have been basically fully fit and available for the entire year. It is that variable, more than almost any others, which correlates with top of the ladder finishes and premierships. And it is no fluke, they have the league's best strength and conditioning team. This clip gives a bit of insight:

If we want to do an Adelaide next year, we need King, Philipou, Henry, Clark, Dow and everyone else to be fit and firing. That doesn't happen by accident. I don't have much faith in our S&C team unforunately. We hired Dave Misson for that role, only to promote him out of it, and then replaced him with Alex Sakadjian whose track record both at St Kilda and previously is mixed at best. To my mind, this should be one of the absolute top priorities at the club. There have got to be Darren Burgess equivalents out there and we need to find them. Equally we need to ensure our facilities and equipment in this area are top notch. But on the bright side, we are at least looking to bolster our resources in this area: https://www.afl.com.au/news/1388688...gh-performance-manager-st-kilda-football-club

Could you imagine Wilkie if he could just intercept and distrubute and not worry about defending? He could average 130 supercoach.

Firstly, I asked the question in good faith and appreciate the response.

I think the King contract has a few people putting two and two together. Not sure he's on massive money (and concerns about his fitness would lead him to take years over annual salary).

Thirdly, I love me some Max Hall. And here are the players at St Kilda who are better than he is right now:

Nas
Wilkie
Sinclair
Rowan
Higgins
Owens
Windhager

And Wilson may have taken a leap now.

Hill and Wood would be on not much (like the King scenario, years over salary), same with Clark. The reasons we're "overpaying" for TDK have been well articulated (he's a restricted free agent so we spend to avoid a potential match), and no one is begrudging Nas a cent of what is probably $3.8m over 2.

TL; DR: I'm not concerned about our salary structure.

Surely this JSOS thing is BS.

Where do we apparently fit all these players in the side? 😂
Also - does he fit our age profile?
I know we’re losing Jimmy but we have Tauru, Hastie, LOC and probably Aleer coming in. And Howard will be back.

I’m a fan of JSOS.

I just don’t think it’s genuine and I can’t see where we fit JSOS Aleer Tauru Wilkie Caminiti Marshall King Sharman Owens TDK in the same side.

But if we do, I’ll be in my element. ****ing over Carlton twice and then a third with Dean 💦 💦
Imagine the

I think we have proven that we haven’t low balled a single ****ing player and sos even gave the veterans a goodwill bonus.

I’m still perfectly happy to side with Windy/agent wants their piece of the money pie that Nas TDK probably owens all got and we are probably at 600-650 as opposed to 800-850.
Totally subjective and you have no more idea of whose getting what than anybody else on here.

So your we haven’t low balled anyone means squat.

Wilkie and Higgins not making the squad is ludicrous
Payback.
Without question.
Higgins been the best small forward this year.
And Wilkie …. Wow. 😮

Oh please, who has been lowballed?

Remember the countless pages from posters such as yourself screaming we were lowballing him and we hadn’t.

And then Ross laughed at all of you and shared how we looked after our veterans by giving them a bonus this year.
