2025 List Management Discussion - Part 3

Now that our season is over, and news is starting to break - it's time for a fresh thread.

This thread is to discuss all things list management - trades, draft, free agency, delistings and more.
As we are now officially in our off-season, we'll be wanting to keep this thread more strictly on-topic than the previous iterations.
Be respectful. You are allowed to disagree with someone - but play the ball, not the man. Repeat offenders will have their posting rights revoked.

Thanks to Lore once again for this incredibly useful spreadsheet.

Me too, Flanders, jsos, tdk and ryan. Forget the others. Jsos is an aa calibre player when fit
We need to settle down.

He’sa decent kick and genuinely his best attribute is his effort.

He plays 12 games a year and players usually don’t get healthier as they approach 30.

If we get him I’ll get around him but AA calibre is insanity. Wilkie for reference didn’t even make the squad this season.

Honestly like as long as JSOS is fit for finals I don't see his body being an issue

We'll have Howard/Aleer/Wilkie/Tauru/Caminiti all capable of playing back. If he gets injured during the H&A season then we have decent cover to still bank wins

Ideally the best 23 consists of Howard Aleer Wilkie JSOS in the backline - Tauru might not even fit in
I think it's JSOS OR Aleer, not both

Here is my opinion on this recruiting above and if it makes us better.
Flanders - I think so, a big bodied mature midfielder who can get his own pill, not much older than our younger mids in NAZ, Hugo, Hall, Pou, Windy. Boxhall etc.
JSOS - makes us better in the fact we are more flexible down back, he can play the 2024 Battle role with Howard on the monsters and Wilks and Tauru being the intercept markers. Out of all the Carlton players recruited, he would be the one most suited, ironically.
TDK - young and good ruckman. Better tap ruck than Roh and probably equal around the ground. If Roh leaves, will be mentor to Dodson and Keeler as understudies.
Ryan - not sure on this one, is a good marking small forward but at 29, taking a risk he can recapture his past form.

Overall, in my view all four can add to the team along side the likes of Pou, King, Henry, and Dow who were unseen this year, plus the natural development of Hammer, Hugo, Hall, Boxshall, Windy, Chito, NAZ. Wilson, Travaglia, Tauru etc.

We get the above, 2026 is now Lyon's team. He has some toys, has the cattle, no more poor slumps and winning streaks when the season is shot.

We need to deliver finals and then build towards top 4.

In: TDK, JSOS, Flanders, Ryan
Out: Pick 12 after FA/FS/NGA/NA rubbish.

I want miniPou, but Flanders and Ryan is a better use of that pick.

Plus, I heard him called J'vaarn the other day, I thought it was Jeaven - like Heaven/Michael Bevan. He's still my boy and I was one of the first but I think I like him a little less with that pronunciation.

Aleer to JSOS is an interesting pivot... JSOS won't cost any draft capital. Makes me think that we need that for Ryan or Flanders.

Other possibility is both, allowing Caminiti to go forward again especially if Marshall leaves.

Our backline fell apart a bit this year. Not against a reset at all.

It’s in the same category as Jackson with an X

Agree with you 100%.

This could be the off season that puts us on the road to our next flag.

Yes AA is a stretch, but we don't need him for that. Just want to make the backline overall stronger, which, in my view, he would.
As for injury prone, maybe we luck out again like we have with Mason Wood. He was always injured with North but has had a very good run with us in his later career.

I don’t reckon that’s a sound basis to be recruiting someone. Needs to play regularly. Dan Hannebery says hi. Great player, but absolutely no value if if not on the park.

Like all of the above except Ryan. Ryan would need to be third rounder at most. Plus a FRDP and Fincher. Possibly another rookie or two.

Remember when we took Crouch over Caldwell.

I hope JSOS over Aller isn’t another sliding doors decision.

I’d be all in on JSOS if I had to choose between the 2.

These decisions can be crucial.
I dont think we made a bad decision taking Crouch.
It was going to be Crouch AND Caldwell until the offer we put to Caldwell's management that they had accepted, suddenly wasn't big enough.
Caldwell is no better than Dow or Carroll.

Other possibility is both, allowing Caminiti to go forward again especially if Marshall leaves.

Our backline fell apart a bit this year. Not against a reset at all.

Another reason for getting JSOS over Aleer is that he can play both forward and defence and could switch with Caminiti or Tauru.

Having flexibility with players that can play in multiple positions is more important these days than it used to be.

Trade Hypothetical:

Steele to WC for Liam Ryan
Jack is surplus to our needs now, only holding out. Pou, Garcia, Hall, Windy etc.
Love Steele but apart from the midfield where does he fit in? He is perfect for what WC need! Ryan can win or change a game with Half a dozen disposals. Exactly what we need.

Marshall to Geelong for there 1st rd pick, on traded to GC for Flanders. TDK in means Marshall isn't a necessity. We have Dobson and Keeler as coverage. We still keep our 1st rd pick. Opens up some cap space that we use to retain Windy.

Jsos a free hit no trade required

Mackenzie if Hawks want Butters then he probably finds it hard to get run. Maybe won't cost us much as much as we think.

Aleer I think he comes to us, sounds like that is the noise. But he is getting a good run and they are playing finals. So they may convince him to stay. Otherwise a 2nd round pick probably gets it done.

Don't think we are done yet though, could be a left field trade that we may be unaware of!

Ryan makes sense if Ross is of the opinion that Butler isn't giving what we need and Collard isn't ready
