I'd be more confident if the game was at 'the biggest available stadium in the state' ie the SCG.

Hawks haven't won a game at ENGIE but hopefully Barrass/Scrimshaw/Battle can been Cadman/Hogan/Stringer quiet

Sure but that would be peak dumb, GWS never play any home games at the SCG why take a final to a 'neutral' ground, it's not getting more than Engie holds. Geelong at least play home games at the MCG every year

Giants home finals

GWS Giants v Brisbane Lions 18,357
GWS Giants v W Bulldogs 19,218
GWS Giants v West Coast 14,865
GWS Giants v W Bulldogs 21,760

Hawthorn is a much larger draw than those clubs. If it’s good enough for the AFL to justify for the Cats it should be good enough for the Suns and Giants. GWS should be getting 30,000 plus to these sorts of games — whether that’s at the SCG or Accor.

And for what it’s worth, the Giants do want to play games at their SCG but someone is standing in their way (to the detriment of the game in Sydney)

The AFL not allowing a final to be played at a 40,000 seat stadium in the host teams city but allowing a final to be played at a 22,000 seat stadium when there are multiple venues with double the capacity is quite dodgy…

Again, it is not their home ground. You'd have a point if they played HOME games at the SCG, they have played as many games at the SCG as Hawthorn this year mate. How on the blue moon is that even remotely fair. It's completely different to Geelong who play what 8 plus games at the MCG, and there aren't multiple venues in Sydney, there are 2, and one isn't their home ground. You can't play AFL games at Accor I don't know how many more times people can say this- it's been reconfigured.

Well they did try and ‘buy’ an SCG home game off Richmond. Allowing the Giants to play one or two home games at the SCG around the Easter Show would solve so many issues.

The Cats played 4 home and away games at the MCG this year (not 8). Brisbane played 3. So hardly much of a home ground advantage there…

Last year the Dogs ‘hosted’ the Hawks at the MCG in a final. That’s despite the Dogs only playing 2 games at the ground compared to Hawthorn playing 10 MCG games. If the Giants can get a ‘home’ final at Engie, the Dogs and Cats should get week 1 finals at Marvel and Kardina Park…

No it wouldn't, it's not their home ground, they aren't on the lease for starters. The Cats have played 1 more home game at the G than the Giants have away from Engie and they play neutral games there so they half count. Why are you wanting the Giants who finished higher to travel to a ground they aren't familiar with? It would be like saying to Hawthorn you know what you are playing your final at Marvel or the Adelaide Oval. Why do the Giants have to care about Hawthorn supporters? The game will NOT get more than capacity and 23k at Engie is better than maybe at best 25k at the SCG.

What's a neutral game?

In the past, Hawthorn did have to play Marvel home finals (vs. Swans and Crows despite playing fewer games at the venue) because of a contract that stipulated one Marvel final if more than one final was in Melbourne.

Regardless, I’m not sure what relevance that has because, as an MCG tenant, the Hawks' final should be at the MCG regardless. My point is, if it's good enough for the Giants, it should be good enough for the Cats and Dogs (we benefited handsomely from that last year, mind you).

Had Geelong finished 2nd and we finished 3rd, they should have been given the opportunity to play that at Kardina Park too. So this isn’t self interest, it’s about the fairness and integrity of the competition…

As for selling out, Hawthorn will bring a truckload more than the Dogs, Lions, and Eagles — look no further than the Port SF last year. Being a day game and not a Friday night game, and given it’s cheaper to travel to Sydney, what an opportunity it could have been to showcase the game in Sydney. It will sell out in the members' window and could have drawn a lot more at the bigger venue — which is the AFL's justification for the Cats and Dogs' finals at the MCG.
