I love that they accidentally left the VC next to Dawson early in the night.

The AFL is like one of those bad companies you once worked for where even the most simplest of tasks, they manage to **** up.

thats because they are amateur. without employing worlds best to bring in elite practises, they reward failure and incompetance by having a boys club culture that allows for people to fail into higher positions. Dillon was always a substandard selection. He only got the job because no one else wanted it.

Okay, we hate him but he has some football cred at least

Never been remotely impressed by him
Good

So only 3.5 out of 9 have any business being near this panel.
lol what a shit show

Our defence have been consistently stand outs all year
As a collective yeah. Worrell prob should have got it. Keane got better as the year went on, but had a form slump in the first half. They're the only two stand outs but I wouldn't say they're Harris Andrews stand outs.

I think it's a positive that we're good as a collective now than having a few stars. If Worrell and Keane improve 5-10% (highly likely they do given they're so inexperienced) then they'll probably be shoe ins next year

I'm fully convinced they roughly allocate spots to each team based on ladder/wins and go from there

Top 9
Brisbane - 3
Western Bulldogs - 3
Adelaide - 2
Fremantle - 2
Geelong - 2
Hawthorn - 2
Gold Coast - 2
Greater Western Sydney - 1
Collingwood - 1

Bottom 9
Melbourne - 2
St Kilda - 1
Sydney - 1

Pretty even allocation of players among the top 9

A team finishing 9th gets 3? Can't be legit.

The only reason battle got in over worrell was because they wanted a 2nd Hawthorn player in there. As I said before this aa team selection has been a joke for years.

Also too, call me a cynic, but I just am not buying Bailey Smith's story about his mental health crisis last year.

He has form with this stuff.

In his draft year he wrote to all interstate clubs claiming that his mental health issues would prevent him from being to play for a non Vic club. Then within the space of a couple of seasons he's running around like a flog at the Bulldogs and trolling players who had legitimate mental health issues.

I'm guessing once Cotton On and Geelong came knocking suddenly his mental health issues magically reappeared and he most probably used it as a way to get himself to Geelong.

I can see where you’re coming from - and I agree to a point - but I think we need to take caution with cynical views around mental health.

What depression and anxiety look like can be wildly different between people. There is no ‘right’ way to experience mental health problems. People can be majorly depressed - and also a shitty person - at the same time, or at separate times, these are not mutually exclusive.

The simple fact is, there is still a far too high proportion of young men, footballers, who do not get help, including a number of recent sanfl players who have completed suicide. Many who do complete suicide have never sought help.

That an afl player can say they took the step to actually be admitted to a mental health unit and speak directly to how emasculating it can feel to do so, but how much better it can be if you do - I think is massive - regardless of how we feel about other ways he has acted.

This is just cope.

We had deserving players, its not a plus they were robbed.

Yeah weird panel

The executives should be removed and replaced with data guys. Get that Champion Data guy in there and Andrew Whelan from Wheelo

Slim down the ex players, add a good non-player journalist that actually watches the games and a newer younger independent media person from the popular podcasts

Big Footys own Wayne.

Honestly what the **** are Dillon and Kane doing on there?

Got to say pretty disappointed in Pav and Bucks, surely they’ve got enough clout to argue against this shit and even worse if they agreed with it.

Should just rename the awards All Geelong and best young Geelong player.

I get the concept of this award, it's not selected by a panel etc. It's just simply who has the most coaches votes out of all the players who have played 2 or less years.

It's not like the Rising Star, this award has no age limit, great.... then why name it 'Best Young Player'? Not even the Rising Star award has the word 'young' in it.

Why is this stuff so hard?

A guy has just won the best young player award and you'd be cautious of giving him a 5 year deal due to age.

Dawson gets voted best Captain in the league, but isn't the Captain of the AA and is supplanted by a guy who isn't even Captain of his own team?
