No-one's suggesting we bring him in as a succession plan for Vossy

Obviously. But I think the natural assumption when we talk about bringing a player in with a promise of a transition to coaching, is that they'd be looking at an assistant role. Some players just have that way about them, that suggests they'd be quite astute in the coaching space. Treloar just doesn't strike me as that type, is all I'm saying, so if we were considering a player->coach offer for him I'd rather it was a much more entry level coaching gig rather than taking one of the senior lines with no experience.

I know what you mean but most who gets roles straight after retirement tend to get development roles.
PS I have no idea if he's interested or suitable

Exactly. He's already in the development space and that's where he's looking at launching into post career. I don't know if he's interested in us or if we're interested in him but if we are, and the links are true, then that's what I see the link as being. He comes across as a veteran to help the kids and steps into a development coaching role.

A reminder that Wright as CEO with his football background at Collingwood would be all over Treloar and would know exactly what he offers

Hey guys first time poster how about bringing in kaiden coleman from Brisbane hasn't played afl since doing he's acl opening round 2024, out of contract end of next year could be one we could potentially get on the cheap

I like the idea, but the fact he’s had two years out for a one year injury is a bit of a flag. He did get back and play one game this year, but has had quad problems since. Some talk recently that he didn’t approach his rehab professionally, and that’s causing a lot of knock on injuries.

I also think that Brisbane would be pretty keen to keep him, Zorko must be close to the end.

Also, welcome.

A: Why would GCS do that, when they’ve already got mids coming out the wazoo?

B: adding Fogarty is the opposite of a sweetener.

C: I think Cerra strangely gets a bad wrap here.

Totally agree with point C. He was very good in the first half of the year. Had to carry a fair bit of the load without Walsh, and with Crippa playing injured. I reckon people are frustrated with the five year contract. But that contract was on our terms, very early in the season when his value was at its lowest. Was a bit of a risk given his injury history and particularly last season, but he made it nearly the whole way through this year. We did something similar with Pitto, longer contract with less money attached - a bit of security for the player but a good deal for us. He still has a lot of upside.

If we want Flanders, I doubt we have to give up Cerra for him. Flanders is out of favour at a side with plenty of first round academy picks coming through, plus more they want to draft this year. While they won’t give him away, they won’t ransom him either. Id say a second rounder gets it done, but he has to pick us first, and it gets complicated if there are other clubs that want him with higher picks.

It was speculated we started Jack's negotiations in late June...make of that what you will. If its an UFA you want to keep I'd probably fire up discussions earlier.

TDK...I don't know what our offer is or when it was tabled. I'll say one thing for the Saints - they knew they had to go hard and go early to get this done.
Not really. He tested the market last time around with zero interest. Coming off an ACL. New position. Our offer was market and pretty good for his previous X amount of data/performance.

He may be the only one of his 'type' that we can afford, so no issue with using him as a stop gap for 12-24 months (form permitting) until we can get a younger and better of his type.
He's a bit like Walsh in that he needs confidence in the body to get to the next contest. I don't think he can do it at the top level anymore. Keep the list spot for someone else.

Does the extent to which Charlie's contract is back-ended offer scope to get us a better deal?

It's kind of a reverse salary dump.

Obviously they'll try and renegotiate to "market rate" but if a club is prepared to pony up a good trade for us conditional on taking on Curnow contract as it stands, what's he going to do? Stay because he can't get a fresh start AND a double dip on his contract?

We may already have the younger and better type in Jagga. This could be a good roll of the dice to get this type into our midfield while taking 12 months to develop Jagga at half back.

Its a good idea, but wouldn't work in practice. Not a chance that Charlie doesn't get a double dip if he gets traded. A player's contract gets torn up when they're traded, so Charlie and his management can easily say "you want to trade all this to Carlton because you think I am worth so much, but you're not prepared to pay me?". Plus a club wouldn't want to invest so much in a player, only to immediately snub him as he walks through the door.

Good Brissie talent with strong base in Brisbane, returning from injury. They would be mad to let him go.

Either way it's on their terms. Having to take on a massive contract shouldn't be a roadblock to getting a deal done.

Treloar got 40 disposals when he played in the Reserves against us two weeks ago.
Was All Australian last year.
This year has had soft tissue issues that held him out of the seniors for months.
Do you or dont you take him for a year?
Depends on who else can do a job we need done and that is contribute to a reset/rebuild - we don't know anything except who is gone so far...and there will be more to go I suspect.
