Hot off the press.
She's gonna stay for the long haul, and we're gonna win! Saints are a good side and we've shown our best can stand up against decent sides..... And most of our output is from the plucky and inexperienced young brigade. I think at this year's trade window we may just have shown enough to lure some developed talent for our up and comers to adhere themselves to.Said it over and over and I'll say it again. Daisy's the best signing the club's done since the Premiership.
Please for the love of God keep her around for as long as humanly possible.
. So much confidence and belief is sprouting and I haven't been this optimistic ot excited ever for this developing team

Yep. Signing the right players is important, obviously, but if the team's not excited to be together, and play together, then they're wasting their time. Not only does she know what she's doing, but she knows how to inspire, and you can't be a great team without that kind of attitude.Said it over and over and I'll say it again. She's already a weapon, I can't wait to see her @50 games xpPainter needs to go and at least play half each quarter in the midfield, you can see in the last quarter of the aints game the difference she made
One big downside of the AFLW short season is that if players get hurt or sick at the wrong time it pretty much wipes out their entire year. If Bakker is still sick now then by the time she is over the illness and builds up her strength and endurance at training the season will pretty much be over. Schilling's injury wouldn't have been a season-ending injury if the season were twice as long.Boyd a test, Smith 1 week and Johnson 1-2 is massive considering we all thought she was cooked for the year. Bakker a bit concerning with a TBC Illness?![]()
Huge improvement by Johnson, was 4-6 weeks last week, I think. Not sure we can fit both her and Smith in the team, though - they both do the same thing and the backline's already a bit small, so can't play both. I reckon Johnson will get the nod, she seems to be regarded as the better player.![]()

That frees up Rowley to go into the midfield, and Lewis was huge in the middle last game too, should be seeing a lot more of her there in the next few weeks as she gets fitter, which should improve us heaps. If we also try Boyd up forward with Riggs, could be a VERY interesting next few weeks.
Great to be getting everyone fit when it looks like we're a great chance to go 3-1 this week, and maybe even 4-1 the way Freo's playing.
Feels weird to see the women's side leaving out players who feel good enough to be playing at AFLW level. Pretty much every season since inception it's seemed like a chore filling out the last few spots of the 21.Agreed it's a weird balance height wise but ok the other hand Johnson and Smith definitely feel like they're both good enough players to be getting a game.
Wonder if we could fit them both in if Thomas plays a full game in the midfield? I do want to see how she goes beyond just pinch hitting and would like another balanced player to be able to run through there in general.
At the rate the top kids are pouring through the draft, there will be some very good AFLW players who will go from hero to zero very quickly. I mean, look at how good our four draft kids were from last year. Another four this year, another four the year after... pretty soon they'll have replaced half the existing team. That's a LOT of very talented players who won't be able to get a game.Feels weird to see the women's side leaving out players who feel good enough to be playing at WAFL level. Agreed, and I also think this is the case for a lot of AFLW sides now that it's become more of a job (look at the increase in average salary since the league started) and less something that they do a few months a year in between their other job(s) and/or attending uni. I also think that the continued growth of AFLW has given girls who like the sport a lot more incentive to stay with it, seeing as if they make it they could be playing professionally for a decade or longer. This just means that the girls playing it growing up are more likely to take it seriously, and also more likely that the really good athletes are more likely to stick to AFL rather than shifting to something else (someone like Matilda Scholz would almost certainly gone to netball or basketball if not for a pathway as a professional AFLW player). At the rate the top kids are pouring through the draft, there will be some very good AFLW players who will go from hero to zero very quickly. All in all it is great to see the overall skill and fitness in the women's game rising with every successive year.

Problem is, much as i want a player like that too, we will have to stink up a season for that to happen I think, and that I don't want.I want a Matilda Scholz![]()
