2025 List Management Discussion - Part 3

Now that our season is over, and news is starting to break - it's time for a fresh thread.

This thread is to discuss all things list management - trades, draft, free agency, delistings and more.
As we are now officially in our off-season, we'll be wanting to keep this thread more strictly on-topic than the previous iterations.
Be respectful. You are allowed to disagree with someone - but play the ball, not the man. Repeat offenders will have their posting rights revoked.

Thanks to Lore once again for this incredibly useful spreadsheet.

Never said he's going cheaply

But you can't say the Wilkie situation is the same as the Curnow situation when the players have completely different intentions

Yes - both contracted so both clubs have similar power - but not the same. Wilkie will be harder to prise out imo
Also worth noting Curnow is with Connors Sports who manage 150+ players across pretty much every club. Gives them a lot more leverage to force a trade if he wants out

Wilkie's agent has just him and McCreery and there is nothing to indicate he wants to leave. I reckon it's all a bit of posturing and goalpost setting whilst they are negotiating an early contract extension

And I agreed with your point that we aren't gonna take less for Wilkie but I think Carlton will be easier to crack with Curnow since he genuinely wants to leave because of lifestyle/cultural reasons

So I don't think you can conclusively say they are the same
Voss was adamant they won’t even entertain a conversation.

So the only way it happens is if a gun goes back the other way.

Same as Wilkie

Wow Aaibts have rattled a few clubs, Whateley reporting Collingwood and Bulldogs felt 'played' by the Silvagni deal.

Now Bulldogs trying the same play on the club that played them. A slight problem though, the player they targetted is contracted, was paid a bonus earlier this year, has publicly stated he loves the club, will in all probability be the next captain.
This in concert with a strategy to bring in backmen to give Wilks a chop out and Lyon publicly stating good clubs don't trade contracted players.
The Saints strategy is not scattergun. It has been plotted for the past two seasons for this exact time. The only wrinkle was the overpay for NAZ, which for the club was a good thing, but not ideal for list management.
However the Saints knew they would ruffle feathers and these EXACT scenario's would have been wargamed by the List Management team. Extensions for the likes of Wilkie would already have been factored in and we have two years to convince him. If we improve, it wont be hard to resign him or NAZ.
Seems a bit amateur and dated reactionary recruiting from the Bulldogs.
Nas wasn't really overpaid, he's set the market now.
And our hand was forced, would of liked it to be cheaper
TDK is the one being over-paid, but l do like his video highlights package

As Basset said last year, we are just expected to sit there and shut up. Clubs dont like that we are actively making moves and the Pies+Dogs reaction is another example of that.

See your point. What I meant was they probably budgeted up to 1.5 a year for NAZ but had to pay the 2

Good question. I used to be conversational in German, until Japanese mostly booted it out of my head. I'm not an expert in Dutch, though.

The Dutch pronunciation of Koning (king) is like your first spelling, but making the "o" a bit longer. Kind of like the "au" in August.

But originally the name came from Germany, from the German word for king, "könig". The "o" with the umlauts is sometimes written "oe", but it's not really pronounced like "toe". It's kind of half way between the vowel sounds of "toe" and "girl".

If you google "king in Dutch" and "king in German", you should get the word with a playable sample sound. "Cone-ing" is kind of, but not really, in between the two.

So how should we pronounce it in Australia? Probably however they want people to pronounce it, as with Loewe and Riewoldt. Or you can be a clever clogs and pronounce it authentically. Maybe your teacher preferred the Dutch pronunciation and his kids prefer "cone-ing". Wouldn't be the first kids to reject their dad's way of doing things.

I'm a stickler for certain things, like pronouncing "dour" like "tour", rather than like "sour" (have died on that hill a few times). But various things become acceptable over time. Hopefully for half the people on this forum, spelling "You're" as "Your" gets checked off in a few more years.
So, as an ex S African, where we speak Afrikaans, often referred to as kitchen Dutch, as the Dutch colonised SA in 1652 ( school history.) my take is that it should be pronounced phonetically as De Kouning - with the ou sound as in tour.

Koning means King - so we now have a pair of them, just not the pair we imagined we’d get. Still, interesting that they are both twins.

I've seen some nuffies on the other trade boards compare Callum Wilkie with Charlie Curnow in terms of contracted stars "disllusioned" with the club and wanting a trade out.

So for any of you geniuses from there reading lets compare the pair shall we:

Charlie: - Reported to have raised the idea of a trade himself in his exit meeting, which he then proceeded to leak to Tom Morris
  • Met with a rival club coach before ****ing off to the United States
  • Had his management reach out to Papley (a rival player!) about wanting to play for Carlton
  • Not featured in any of the offseason content by the club

Callum: - The first reports of an issue with the club came from an SA 'journalist/nuffie" literally on the Port Adelaide payroll
  • Said rumours were denied on national television by Ross, quoting the player himself
  • Is now conveniently pursued by a team a day after they lost a target that they were the "favourites" to secure the services of for weeks
  • Features in an official 10 minute interview about the growth of the team and the future of the club. First player from the club chosen to do so, before the captain.

Yeah i think we'll be right
