Oscars penalty in Silverstone was self inflicted (he broke the rules).
Landos issues today were not self inflicted, and only arose because the team broke normal protocol by pitting the 2nd car first and then stuffed up the pit stop.

Hope that helps
Only happened because lando missed his mark and self inflicted a bad stop on himself

Normally I hate Max but I loved his radio response 'ha just because he had a slow stop'. For once hes right classic answer. Max wouldn't be swapping places for anybody.

There is a difference between Lando asking for it, and Lando being okay with it.

The team made the call to reverse the pit stops and said beforehand they wouldn't allow an undercut.

Think for a second if the result was reversed and Oscar lost a spot in that scenario. You'd think it was fair for positions to remain as is
Ok, so what if the stop was longer and he went behind Leclerc?
Would they ask Ferrari to let him by? Would they ask Oscar to slow down and let both of them by?

I’ve never seen a slow pit stop lead to the other driver being asked to let them through.
Ever.

I’d argue Landos issues today were self inflicted. He gave up first preference for the pitstop, therefore relinquishing any lead or benefit if the stop was fudged, which it was.

This wasn’t a Hungary scenario where ‘whoops we pitted the wrong car first and underestimated it would **** you over, sorry’.

yeah which helped give them the pace today, they were miles in front. See if it lasts
The Redbull has always been fast in a straight line on the McLaren’s.

A track like this one suits them to a T, Baku not so much.

Baku will be interesting, to see if Red Bull carry this pace over there.

Baku has a lot of slower corners around the back half, but yeh that long straight will make for an interesting complexity

And look, it’s one RB that’s doing anything. Be interesting to know what Yuki is thinking right now about his future

Not to mention, if Lando did stop first, then a safety car happened, 100% they’d be asking Oscar to let Lando by

There is a less than 0% chance the would have asked lando to give it back if it was reversed, let's not kid ourselves

To be fair as much as I dislike lando it wasn't his fault, you could see the wheel gun guy stuffed up. But the issue is in asking Oscar to redress it and cop the points loss (not that it should matter i think he wins the title anyway) they have risked exacerbating issues between the drivers and the team. The team really should have just let it go to see if lando could re-pass him but I think they were worried he couldn't.

Excuse me? What? It was a slow pit stop. The order they pitted has zero relevance

He gave up first preference on the stop specifically on the promise that they wouldn't allow an undercut.

Funny how everybody is ignoring that part

Just like Oscar Lando wouldn’t have got close. You can’t overtake without some serious extra pace or a big tyre offset.

Monza is an outlier

McLaren will still be faster in most other circuits. Monza having the variability in speed corners and low deg was more an outlier.

Yeah I don’t get this whole “because Oscar stopped first” - the undercut wasn’t there - they spent ALL race telling us this.

So had Lando stopped first and copped that slow stop, what would have they then done to Oscar? “Slow down this lap to cancel out the slow stop”?

when Max crossed the line, Yuki was just ahead of him, almost one lap down. Laughable
