Well McLando got what they wanted, now let’s see the team orders speak come out. You watch, I can bet my house on the fact that team orders will come out in the next few races telling OP not to pressure the golden child. “It’s for the sake of the team Oscar” **** off!!!!

Now Oscar is a point down he might get his agression back, just seems to be driving like a guy holding onto a lead, now he can drive like a chaser again and 1 point is nothing.
Yeah aside from extending the lead (obviously), going down with enough time to come back is the next best scenario rather than trying to hold onto a 10-20 point lead for 4 races. Pressure on Lando could see him fold.

Going to be very frustrating if it comes down to a handful of points with all the team orders shenanigans. I know Lando had the DNF but that’s racing, Oscar’s lost 15-20 points from bullshit McLaren tactics.

Imperious from Lando the whole weekend. Now a favourite for the WDC - like him or hate him, he did what he had to and importantly also opened up 10 points on Verstappen.

Do we think Oscar can recover? Did well today after the botched start, but does he have the temperament?

omg

“So you see, Max was aggressive and tried something different, and it paid off because he gained 2 (nearly 3) places”

Also
“Oscar needed to do a bit more and try something different. He didn’t so it didn’t pay off and he only gained 2 (nearly 3) places”.

Obviously not ideal, but I feel there has to be some optimism out of the weekend for Oscar.

If he doesn’t sort out qualifying, then it’s obviously over. So, that’s a given.

However,
1. Coming back from a poor qualifying to gain places
2. Coming back from a poor lap/turn 1, to gain a number of places
3. Overtook quality drivers who were making good pace (Russell in particular)
4. Both he and team showed a willingness to try things, pitting early to undercut Max, adapting and switching to a 2 stop strategy.

And probably the most relevant, he couldn’t win or lose the WDC this weekend, but Max could’ve lost it and it look like he has.
It’s now essentially Lando v Oscar from here. And he can even set himself up as the underdog now, officially in the odds and on the standings. If that helps.

Hard to fault Lando this weekend. McLaren haven't really been at their best for quite a few races but he absolutely wiped the floor with them this weekend.

Championship is set up deliciously for the rest of the season.

Remember this comment from 2021? Etched into my memory.

Nothing is set in stone just yet.

Oh yeah, for the sake of drama I hope it goes all the way to Abu Dhabi however I think that given the even nature of the field a single DNF spells the end of the title fight this year unfortunately.

Just watched the full race.

Was surprisingly exciting.

Aside from the awful Turn 1, Oscar drove well and was pretty unlucky tbh.

Made some good overtakes, caught Russell quickly but Russell got the advantage of a teammate DRS train and then a position swap, where he got released.

A slow stop also cost what should have been an easy undercut (and gave Oscar more overtaking to do)

Antonelli also got DRS advantage for a number of laps from his teammate to help keep Piastri at bay.

At least the 2nd stop they nailed and got him out ahead.

Russell was over 3 seconds ahead at this stage and for the 4th time Oscar reeled him back in and made another good pass on track.

Then he reeled in Ollie Bearman who was given DRS to overtake back markers and then a virtual safety car to keep him ahead.

Overall, Piastri's race pace was good, with him consistently catching everyone in front of him (and still managing some passes with the same tyres and the same deg on a track that's pretty hard to overtake).

Much better than last race - just needs to sort out whatever the hell is going on in qualifying.

"But I think for me, the biggest thing is trying to learn the things I want to learn today.

"Yesterday [qualifying], it kind of became obvious that after the session, there were a few things I needed to change pretty majorly in how I was driving.

"Today was firstly about trying to limit the damage, and also learn some things about [the car].

"If I've made some progress with that, I'll be happy."

Jeez just how much did his car change that it has put him in a position where he has to learn new things about the car this late in the season .

Then it's got nothing to do with a fade out of his performance due to a lack of mental/physical stamina as often has been suggested.

The pass on Russell is not the action from a guy who's fading, unmotivated or wilting under championship pressure.

But on here and elsewhere, you have to read from pretenders that it's the case. It's ridiculous.

Another thing out of this weekend is that Max is now 36 points behind with four races to go, which means that the WDC is out of his control. Still reluctant to write him off until it's mathematically impossible, today demonstrated you can never really count him out, but he probably needs to win 3 out of 4 races now and hope for Lando and Oscar to both have a DNF.

Yep great point Im not sure why all the commentary was around Max's position getting worse from this weekend. It got better. The gap continues to close.

Only needs 1 more mclaren collision (bound to happen if Piastri can refind some pace).

So both McLarens are being set up to suit the golden child. “ we are not knobbling OP’s car it’s set up exactly the same as Lando’s” The fact that they have two different driving styles and this set up changes happens after they secure the constructors title, no nothing dodgy there at all. Suddenly slow pit stops happen at the right time for Lando, strange strategy calls. “We are treating the drivers exactly the same” Ones father gives us multi millions in money but we are not going to favour his car at all. Even though without that money we wouldn’t exist. Just like Aston, Lance gets a drive because of his skill not daddy’s money.
