He was heavily involved (director) in the Sharks throughout their foundation years so any say he had at GCS was minimal at the time.

One of those who journos and stuff have cited as a "why didn't the AFL just use Southport Sharks as the basis for the Suns?"

Don’t think the AFL would want to have thrown $200million at a Suburban football club. 🤣

... Looking at Carlton from the outside, he reckons Graham Wright is held in very high regard and feels that we'll become a juggernaut with him in three to five years. He wasn’t surprised Michael Voss was retained either. His take was that the coaching market this year was thin and the chance to make a change was 12 months ago, but we couldn’t sack Voss after last season. He thinks we need a change in list management and recruiting. He is stunned we're locking up borderline best 22 talent for multiple seasons and thinks no other club would be signing those contracts.
I reckon we'd be doing it to get us through the compromised draft years, as apart from Dean & Walker, I doubt we'll be getting much new talent in via the draft, especially if GW thinks our windows isn't shut yet.

That said, not sure who he's referring to with regard to who we are 'locking up'.

They had over 30000 members in the late 2000's and a very strong administration.

It was a much stronger starting point than what they put in at the Suns.

As it is, it wasn't until after the Suns and Sharks partnered up that the Suns really made progress.

You would struggle to find a key forward that has done less in his 2nd year than Walter. 7 possessions 2.4 marks and 1.1 goals a game in a good side. May come good but it is a risk he is just not that good.
Harry McKay
Riley Thilthorpe
Oscar Allen
Tom Lynch
Jack Riewoldt

All pretty similar-ish

Chesser for hardly anything as a fringe player (at worst) is a frugal get

Costs us less than a draftee and will be ready to play round one as far as fitness is concerned + senior footy exposure

I dunno, not gonna move the needle but means we can invest in players via F/A and trades a little more freely
could indeed move the needle a fair bit as he uses the ball very well.

We have few of those types.

Getting Charlie will be amazing for their marketing. He will be POD forward and put bums on seats. They should see themselves as in the premiership window now. Getting Charlie is being aggressive and chasing it.
Excellent point you make, Sydney made a fortune from Buddy, paid them back commercially many times over his contract cost. Should be seriously considered in any compensation calculations. (before anyone comments, Charlie is Buddy lite!). AFL still a long way off it in recognizing branding opportunities.

PS I recall Derrick Rose getting traded in the later part of his NBA career and selling $USD100m in merch. in China alone when he was coming off the bench.

Who cares, winning a premiership will affect the numbers the most. We’ve had 10 years of Charlie and not any closer to one, we have compromised drafts coming up, lost a couple of players to free agency and Charlie likely done after this contract.

Some people need to understand the crux of this list as it stands is not getting us to the promised land
Who cares?? I think you'll find the club cares about losing money.
The membership numbers took a hit this year due to poor performance. Take a big draw card out of the club that brings money into the club will also make membership numbers drop, thats a guarantee a premiership in the near future is no guarantee.
I want the club to succeed like all Blues supporters do,we've waited long enough.
I just think replacing Charlie with Walter is a massive risk in regards of success sooner than later.
I'd hate to be the one making the huge decision one way or another in regards to Charlie.
Its just my opinion.

Not an issue of how strong/successful Sharks were or are - my point is the AFL wouldn’t have wanted to throw money at an organisation they didn’t ultimately have control over.

Add Moir, Lord, Cowan, and Hollands to the list, and it's half our team right there. We are potentially building a very good team. I'm not sure about the short term, but the long term appears to be looking good.
Flynn Young, Will White, and Binns. The Campo brothers as well. I'm sure that Flynn and Will will be retained as rookies. Binns with the new strength and conditioning coach working on building some muscle on him will give us a bit more on the wing as well.

Pretty much spot on.
We may need an extra second round pick of value for Ison, Dean bids though.

Reckon we'll dip into 2027 draft picks.
Gov and Lij could garner a couple of early 3rd round picks which we could potentially upgrade to a second. Especially if we toss in next years third as well.

Is Merrett an option?

Guv part of the steak knives?

Merrett would cost at least a first rounder, around a million a year in salary, is about to turn 30 and might want out of * because he is sick of losing and their list is going backwards...

He is a gun, but if he leaves it won't be to us...

Maybe St Kilda?

The AFL could have easily partnered with the Sharks to get everything that they wanted for them to get into the league just like they were willing to with Port Adelaide Magpies before the other SANFL clubs got involved.
