2025 List Management Discussion - Part 3

Now that our season is over, and news is starting to break - it's time for a fresh thread.

This thread is to discuss all things list management - trades, draft, free agency, delistings and more.
As we are now officially in our off-season, we'll be wanting to keep this thread more strictly on-topic than the previous iterations.
Be respectful. You are allowed to disagree with someone - but play the ball, not the man. Repeat offenders will have their posting rights revoked.

Thanks to Lore once again for this incredibly useful spreadsheet.

Getting both of Aleer & JSOS is abit baffling
Unless they see JSOS as the swingman & play him forward more?
Many are baffled.

Many are confused.

Many are scratching their heads.

Good.

One key to success is unpredictability. If the fans can’t work out what we’re doing then there’s a fair chance our rivals won’t know either.

Don't agree. I used to think Marshall could be a fwd but if the choice is Caminiti or Marshall as a fwd I'm picking Caminiti every time.

I think that there is a huge difference between CHF and FF.

Max King will be the FF. Marshall does not have the lead to play pure FF.

Marshall IMO would be vastly superior to Caminiti as our CHF, as today a CHF spends a lot of time roaming around and pushed up into the midfield, and we know that Marshall is very good around the ground and is an excellent mark there.

This is why the AA nom is so flawed as a takent gauge. Its as much about places available and other players who play the same position.
Why does that make it flawed?

That's the whole point- finding the best player in each position.

Same as people who say TDK has never won a single AA. How many ruckmen have? Gawn has had the main gig sewn up for years,
Yes..... if we're paying him more than any other ruck in the league, I'm hoping he becomes the best ruck in the league. AA ruck. Totally fair expectation.

Marshall has never had a nomination either.
he made the squad in 2023. Not the final team.

Could've easily made the squad in 2024 too.

Very happy to see us shaking things up this off-season. We have to get better and accumulate talent, we are doing that and then some - plus the growth of our younger players.

Would be happy for Marshall to go for a first. He was manhandled this year and TDK is a far better fit in the short and long term.

Not for Geelongs 1st & to our club, please dont send him there

The good thing is we don't have to trade him. He's contracted. So we can hold out for a deal that suits us.

But if we wait another year he's going to be worth less. We could've moved him on last year for a decent haul - we probably should have, as his play this year has hurt his value and a year alongside TDK won't help that.

I'd trade Marshall for SDK or for 2025, 26 and 27 first rounders (given that all are likely to be late teens picks at best).

If Geelong don't want to overpay, give the dual ruck combo a year to work. Don't lose much giving him up for a 2nd next year over a late first this year.
If Marshall gets traded i reckon it's their first and a player

Third rounder. Injury prone, hasn’t shown he’s up to the level consistently, fringe player. Potential, but draft selection is irrelevant
100%.

Campbell Chesser wasn't getting a game for West Coast this season at one stage.

Played seven WAFL games - even while the Eagles were smashed.

Had an okay finish to the season in the seniors.

Eagles should be pumped if they get a third rounder.

No one would have beeen surprised if he was delisted.

I agree with you on his on-field value
Does have flaws in his game that hurt us
But I'm still worried about King getting over his injury issues
Marshall covers for King & TDK, if their not on the park.

I guess Howard is almost done and injury prone. So have Aleer as the permanent stopper who can also intercept at a good level that Howard never could. Wilkie and Silvagni can rotate between key back/3rd tall intercept defender.

Battle was never an elite interceptor, now we have 3.

Swann confirmed the AFL was still looking at ways to tilt the centre bounce back in favour of the athletic ruckman.
“There’s a couple of options, but I’m working with the umpires and talking to clubs about how we do that,” he said.
“On round numbers, over the last three years it used to be four out of every five times they’d jump at each other. Now it’s four out of every five times they walk across the line and wrestle. It’s not good for the game. We want them to jump.
“Are they allowed to cross the line at all? Do we have a little wedge they’ve got to stand in so they have to effectively face each other and jump? We’ll work that through.”
I don't understand this issue. What rule was changed which eliminated the run and jump? If running and jumping is still allowed, why wouldn't someone like a TDK do it every time?

That said, if running and jumping is about to become more important, that doesn't bode well for Marshall.

Good news that we are upping our offer to Windhager.

Just hoping the damage isn't already done with that one.
I am all for keeping Windy (his commitment on the field cannot be questioned) but if we are going to grant him his wish for an improved deal then their are several aspects of his game he needs to improve as well

I am sure we can sort it out

So listening to Midday Madness on SEN today and nearly lost it when Dwayne called people questioning the NGA's for the fake clubs as 'whingers'. I thought typical schill, doesn't understand that it is hurting the whole competition.
But then some Saints muppet came on spouting 1.8 for TDK, 850k for JSOS, and 750k for Aleer and was complaining about the spend like it was his money.
Dwyane completely shut him down and said, ' Well the Saints are sick of being ordinary and are doing something about it, and I love it'.
If nothing at least Russell is consistent. Reckons NGA's grows the game and the 'whingers' should do something about their list to get better, then was full.of praise for what the Saints are doing.
Still don't agree with his NGA stance, however Russell is no hypocrite and stuck to his guns when questioned on the Saints.
