Captaincy is more than being good at football. Harley doesn't have the calmness and composure thats needed. Not to say he never will but he doesn't atm. Getting the skip rubbed out for losing his cool can be destabilising.

Saw the result and was surprised by Ginbey so high up - but it seems expected in here.

What do you think Ginbey becomes in the next few years? I haven't seen much of him. Is the midfield experiment over? Is he a genuine key back or more a lockdown 3rd/small? He isn't tidy enough to be the main rebounder?

FYI, lions had Ginbey 4th on their draft board that year (Ashcroft, Wardlaw, Cadman I think, Ginbey Humphrey).

I see him similar to the progression of Yeo (hopefully without the injuries).

Not a natural or smart enough player to be truly effective in the midfield early on in his career, but athletic, strong and aggressive enough to dominate his man and intercept as a defender. Yeo's first AA was in defence in 2017, he was 24 that year. He would beat out taller forwards with his speed and wreck smaller forwards with his size. Then on from there he became a valuable mid who was never as smart as a Neale type but would be enough of a brute to still put the team on his shoulders.

I'd suggest by Ginbey's mid 20s, when his strength peaks above anyone else's and his game sense catches up a bit, he'll shift midfield. But we won't rush that move - let him grow into the Tom Stewart role and have confidence in himself before shifting him to the middle when we're hopefully ready to contend.

I think most had him top 2.

I think at least another season down back just to keep that confidence high and they might reassess after that depending what the mids look like and KPD stocks are.

Not many get thrown into the midfield like he did in his first 18months of a career. Even more so when he wasn’t played as a pure mid his whole in colts footy. If they can transition him successfully back into the midfield it would be huge. Speed, size, endurance are at the level to be an elite defence mid just didn’t have a the midfield craft and possibly the confidence to go find the ball in there.

Great presser.

Might not be the most polished speaker but you can tell he’s genuine whenever he talks. OA is always well spoken and sounds ultra professional, but to me it comes across a bit forced. That’s why I think Bakes would make a great captain.

They brought it up but he shut it down pretty quickly. I imagine it'd be a bit awkward talking about taking over while Duggan is still in the role. Wouldn't surprise me one bit to see him voted into at least co-captain.
