Are we in bad shape if we don’t add one? A returning Reef alongside Moore, Howe, Frampton and maybe Howes as a flex option seems enough to me for 2026. Yes there’s some urgency for 2027 if it turns out Reef isn’t up to it alongside a looming Howe retirement, but Frampton’s emergence has lessened the need to add one, IMO.

My thoughts exactly. Worst case mcstay goes down back

I've cooled on the need for a defender as this year goes on. I thought he might be a reasonably cheap replacement for Dean but I think you're right, probably not a desperate need atm

Our midfield and forward pressure is making Frampton look like FB of the century. But you’re probably right Howe is closest to the end, and we need another quality player to replace him…

Moore, Frampton, Howe, Reef, Smit + Dean/Other is fine for next year for mine.

Especially considering that McStay and possibly Mihocek are there in case of absolute emergency.

2027, it’s highly likely we will need someone else though as Moore and Frampton age and the others will all retire or likely flop.

Defensively he's pretty much always been a gun for us.

Where's gone to the next level in the last few weeks is his offensive capabilities.

He's now infused some attacking interceptor into his game and it's making him arguably the most underrated key backman in the comp.

As of this very moment, there's not a single key back I'd take over Frampton.

I think we’ve reached a point in our list management where we can just focus on talent. I don’t think we want for anything and I don’t see how we add the top line mid to support Nick without sacrificing someone. Time will tell though because we won’t sit still.

Howe is getting injured a lot
We need cover and reef isn’t guaranteed to do anything, we were experimenting

Quaynor moore houston
Jaicos naicos crisp/allen/steele/parker

That’s a good defence/ mid set up with depth to cover our back half of the ground

Moore. Frampton and Howe are a solid group of KPP. With Maynard an ability to play taller and quaynors aerial we are prettt set for defenders. We need developing kids as backup. You can’t just bring in expensive KPP as depth and have them soaking up cap in the 2’s. If we need depth then grab someone like Jones on a 1 year rookie contract until reef etc develop. Or worst case we throw mcstay down back.
