Language ain't the problem. It's the emotional volatility and lack of self control that's concerning.
Unless I've missed something, the footage I've seen is not exactly overly demonstrative or aggressive towards the photographer. There's no need for the language but clearly he's rattled and it sounds as though he's had another run in with the same photographer on a previous occasion. Everyone will over react (as everyone does) and the media have double standards when it comes to one of their own, but I think this is a minor issue that just happens to have occurred on what is obviously a slow news day.

I don't think we need to carry on with any virtue-signalling self righteous behaviour - the media does a good job of that themselves.

As for any "emotional volatility" and "lack of self control" - again, I'd make comment that clearly there is history between Smith and the photographer.

Sounds like Bailey Smith had a meltdown at photographers this afternoon during an open training session.

If what's been reported is true then he and the club are probably best to apologise and move on before some in the media call for him to be publicly executed.
A bit of frustration. I get it. But yeah, nip it in the bud with a quick apology.

10 September 2025

(Smith...) exchanged words with local snapper Alison Wynd, who has been at the Geelong Advertiser for over two decades, when he thought she overstepped the mark.

Smith was getting a massage near the boundary line of GMHBA Stadium when the photographer had her lens trained on him.

Noticing he was the subject of her camera, the 24-year-old stuck the middle finger up to her.

After finishing on the massage table, the AFL Coaches’ Association MVP got up and walked towards the grandstand, where Wynd was set up, about 10 rows back from the fence.

Smith asked the photographer to “stop trying to bait me”, saying his treatment was a “private moment”.

He demanded the photos be deleted.

When the snapper told Smith she was simply doing her job and had been invited by Geelong to be there, Smith responded with: “You’re doing a f*cking sh*t job”...

Nah, she is right. Theres a drop in decency. That was not warranted by any of them.
On the field? Knock yourself out. In an interview? It's bogan crap.

It was weird.

It looked forced and deliberate.

They're a weird mob at Collingwood at the moment.

Storm in a teacup.

He spent time in a psych ward. You don't do that if you're 100% in control of all aspects of your emotions.

Infact it should be expected that he can be a bit up and down.

Also, he's 23 years old.

From what I can tell he was getting his glutes massaged, he was probably daydreaming off with the fairies and this photographer decided to take pics on the sly. He was probably startled....what a natural reaction to being startled?....to get angry

It's a total storm in a teacup.

Agree 100%. Chris Scott will play Jedi mind games with the media at his weekly press conference and it will go nowhere.

There's talk that Andrew Dillon has jumped straight into his car and is on his way to Bellbrae. Baz has the outdoor fire pit cranked up and a couple of nice t-bones ready to cook. All will resolved amicably and Dillon will return home with a couple of signed #3 Cats jumpers and some pictures of Tammy wearing a dental floss bikini.

It's all G

I'm not sure if this is the thread for it, but has anyone seen any official word on which night we'll be playing the prelim?
From what I'm aware there is no official word yet (and no talk about it on any shows) which from memory is not the norm', and has me suspicious they'll be waiting to see if Hawthorn win, and if so they'll have Geelong v Hawthorn on the Saturday night instead of Friday. That's the only way they can have 2 night prelims (as they'll have a twilight Saturday match with interstate teams) and all their decision making revolves around tv ratings/revenue.

We should be pretty dirty if they do play us on the Saturday night when having a higher ranking than Collingwood, and us playing on the Friday means 7 days in between for the semi winners, as opposed to 6 and 8.

We are playing the Friday night prelim and Collingwood have Saturday twilight to allow their QLD based opponent to get home that night.

It will be Friday as we are the highest ranked team.

"- All umpires from GWS v Hawthorn are done, plus the official who made the Cam Rayner error."

Didn't actually see the Giants game. The umpiring must have been REALLY bad if all of them "are done"!

Most of the top umps umpire the bigger games usually.

So no room left for them with less games now.

The guy who works for Sportsbet is still going. Imagine if he did what Wallace's son did last week :straining:

Which one's that again?

How Rodan keeps missing out boggles the mind. Maybe because he refuses the goal reviews that Crypto get paid for?

Says someone who clearly has no understanding around emotional/mental issues and the stressors around that

Spot on.

Amazing how everyone was tripping over themselves to congratulate him for opening up about entering a psych ward.

Then two weeks later he shows the tiniest sign of emotional instability and everyone jumps on his back.

Guess what people.....checking into a psych doesn't magically fix all your issues.

You can't have it both ways with Bailey Smith.

Give him a break.

He's umpired 119 games and yet to umpire in a final - the comment you made above was raised by multiple fans last week in regards to his snub from even being an emergency in week 1

If he doesn't get a gig next year, fans may start to riot

Birdgate 2 in fully blown nightly News mode.
Perils of sticking the camera in naked body places of someone with a short fuse.
4 letter pie expletives on camera and we get crickets (except for I like to hear myself talk Wilson).
Scott will put the skids on the media, we give them so much access now.

I do wonder if that might be the choice of David, I reckon part of the reason we have such goodwill towards him is that he hasn't had to make calls in big games. He wouldn't be umpiring for the money and might want to avoid the controversy/high emotions around finals.
