Shameful. I mean you don't have to agree with everything he says (I couldn't agree less with him on religion for example) but debate is no longer an option in this world.
The US is not representative of the entire world.

When was the last time something remotely like this happened in Australia?

We are different, no doubt.

Mentality is different, more open to foreigners, less likely to act violently toward someone with different beliefs.

I can't think, I assume never.

In an ideal world no one would get shot. Charlie dedicated most of his life to ensuring that such a world could never come about. In his own words:

LB, as I've said continuously, I don't agree with all he said, but to be killed because you're a religo right-winger is something I think (at the very least) should never have happened.

I'm neither left or right set in concrete.

I like Bob Hawke and I like Johnny. I understand the points of both sides, I grew up in an ultra left-wing house. My Mum was a staunch Democrat and my Dad is dyed in the wool, Chad-like lefty blow hard.

I don't know why Politics is now "Barra Brava" style, what ever happened to just vote and whatever happens, happens.

It just feels excessive.

I’m not basking in it, but live by the sword die by the sword
Sword of what? Free speech and discourse at campuses?

The guy was a law abiding citizen, a family man and someone who preached common sense.

To wish death upon those who you disagree with because their opinions aren’t aligned with yours….is inhumane.

He was ok with gun deaths because he thought it was worth it for the 2nd amendment. I spose in a weird way that makes him a martyr for his cause.

Charlie Kirk (2023): "I think it's worth to have a cost of unfortunately some gun deaths every single year so that we can have the 2nd Amendment. That is a prudent deal. It is rational. Nobody talks like this. They live in a complete alternate universe."

Unless of course he meant, gun deaths excluding himself?

If you’re basking in any way of this guy’s death…then you’re a genuine piece of shit.

It's not "basking" in it.

Let me put it like this; I'm giving Charlie the exact amount of sympathy and grace he has given the child victims of school shootings, Palestinians in Gaza, and George Floyd.

Did I want him to die? No.
Am I going to mourn him in any way? Also no.

It wasn't the gun that killed him, it was the sick depraved idiot pulling the trigger.

Even in death, give the strength of his convictions, there is no doubt he would believe in his 2A rights.

God bless all of you who are revelling in his death, take a moment to reflect and look at why.

RIP Charlie Kirk

I mean sure, though the depraved idiot would’ve had a hard time of killing him with a knife at 200 yards or whatever it was

Does Utah have a machete disposal bin scheme?!

This post coming after the well-suppressed story of a depraved idiot stabbing an innocent Ukranian woman on a train. Tasteful.

That's right, it's the machetes, knives and guns which are killing people, not the people who wield them.

Do me a favour….don’t respond to anything I post on this forum from this day forth.

That’s not what I said.
I’m actually agreeing with you. People are 100% the problem. But the ease with which people can obtain guns over there and the sheer amount in circulation is a huge problem.
Anyway no point going over old ground and you’ll just have some other stupid shit to say.

I'm saying stupid shit?!?

Here you are posting a tasteless Twitter post....

It's not clear at all that that's what happened. When attacks like this happen it's very rarely someone with a coherent political ideology. The guy who almost shot trump was a registered republican who seemed to do what he did out of an insecure attempt to prove he could hit a target. I don't think we can even assume that it was someone to Kirk's left, as he's long been hated by the far-right nazi types who think he's sold the white race out to the jews.

From a centre/left perspective I don't think killing Charlie Kirk makes any sense. Like, why him? He had a high public profile but he wasn't a great orator, he wasn't charming, he wasn't a great organiser, he really only got to where he was thanks to a steady stream of money given to him to astroturf a right-wing movement on American college campuses. They're just going to stuff his suit with something else now that he's dead.

No matter where the shooter is on the political spectrum I don't think their actions could be considered coherent or logical in any way. The only thing we can really say at this point is that the shooting was a consequence of how easy it is to get a gun in America, a status quo that Charlie Kirk was an active advocate for.

You seem to be revelling in all of this. One of the first to post all the twitter reactions, etc.

Yet you play the moral high ground.

Not at all. No "moral high ground" here at all.

I'm not upset that he is dead one iota. I think the world is a better place without him in it, and one only needs to look at the response from the many, many groups and demographics he demonised to understand how much of an evil, nasty piece of shit he was.

And you know what is the real irony in this? Charlie Kirk was one of the loudest and most "revelling" voices whenever people on the left were targets of violence. When an intruder broke into Nancy Pelosi's home with the intent of killing her, and instead brutally assaulted her husband, Charlie Kirk made jokes about it and spread conspiracies about Paul Pelosi actually being a gay lover of the attacker.

And that's just one of countless examples of who Charlie Kirk was.

So, spare me the pearl clutching and the indignation.

Where is all the praise for the shooter? Surely just doing their part to ensure the right of every freedom loving 'Murican is never infringed upon.
