I’m familiar enough with Kirk’s comments to know he was a vile individual. But I was still horrified when I heard the news. It shouldn’t happen. I do feel for his kids but that’s about all.

Because as has been pointed out, he peddled misinformation, downplayed the deaths of children, poured fuel on the fire of the febrile political environment, revelled in suffering if it was ‘the left’. Literally his last words were attempting to shift blame for mass shootings on to trans people and when asked about mass shootings overall (the answer to which would be predominantly white straight males), was suggesting it was the fault of gangs. He nurtured the environment in which political violence can thrive and is now a victim of it. It was inevitable something like this would happen.

Kirk doesn't deserve any more attention for his death than Melissa Hortman, an actual legislator. The fact that he will be held up as a martyr while Hortman and the other victims were widely disparaged by the administration and Republican senators such as Mike Lee is pretty deplorable. Not to mention the extent to which the piss was taken out of Pelosi and her husband after his attack.

Conservatives love dark humor when it's about George Floyd, Jews and more. All of a sudden the moral high ground is in full force when the shoe is on the other foot

The thing that happens when a conservative is killed is that both the conservative and progressive media show sympathy. Both sides of politics show sympathy.

When a progressive is shot, the conservative media pretends it didn't happen, or casts doubt on the circumstances or political motivation. Conservative Politicians hint that they don't believe it, or the person deserved it or mostly ignore it, maybe even mention god's will.

So people like Hird is the Word actually end up thinking that political violence is really a left-mostly phenomenon because attacks on progressives get far less press.

"I can't stand the word 'empathy', actually. I think empathy is a made up New Age term that does a lot of damage" - Charlie Kirk

"I think it's worth it. I think it's worth to have a cost of, unfortunately, some gun deaths every single year so that we can have the Second Amendment to protect our other God-given rights." - Charlie Kirk

He got what he was advocating for.

I think you're giving them too much credit, from what I've seen in this thread that poster loves nothing more than engaging in bad faith, disingenuous arguments

Trump signals that he’s going to use this to go after the left.

Lmao. "This is a by-product of Americans and the media treating everyone who you disagree with with hatred and anger"

The very next sentence

"We're going to round up the radical left who oppose us and call us Nazis"

Ok mate I've heard enough

only mentions Himself, the CEO, ICE, and Steve Scalise. as victims of violence.... MF'r delivered that with more monotone than elliot goblet.

I look forward to never hearing any progressives compared to communist Russia or Stalin ever again? (Not likely.....).

Funny how he mentioned attacks on conservatives and ignored all the attacks on progressives.

They're going to use this for more fascism.

The uncomfortable truth is that this killing will mean Charlie Kirk is forgotten by the end of the Trump Administration (although they'll probably name one of their new fascist laws the Kirk Law or something).

mehdi is incisive and brilliant.

and this

I strongly disagreed with Kirk's views and found him to be a pretty putrid individual because of those views, but I find his murder to be shameful and disgraceful. You should never pay for your views with your life.

Sadly, however, politically motivated assassinations are part of what the USA is as a country. The first I personally remember is when Bobby Kennedy was gunned down in 1968.

I never get less disgusted by these events, regardless of the political leanings of the target, but equally I never get surprised by them.

The USA simply does not have the capacity for self-reflection and improvement. Violence inevitably ends up being the course of action for that country and/or for individuals within it.

As easy as it is to shit on someone like Kirk, it doesn't solve a lot and he didn't deserve to die. No matter how repugnant his views and venemous influence on younger people was.

I agree with what you've written above, particularly the bolded.

The MO of the USA for decades has largely been might makes right in order to settle disputes, rather than mature diplomacy, and still is to this day.

Whether it be domestically or internationally and Trump's maga era has taken it to new heights.

This incident will create a shit storm now and conveniently also double as a perfect distraction for Trump's grubiness in the Epstein sex ring and his terrible, on going foreign policy.

He's going to further erode honest people's rights and keep stealing from the lower classes to give money to the elites, ever becoming the tyrannical government these idiots claim the guns are for protection from (lol!).

Kirk deserves nothing more than the empty thoughts and prayers he has offered countless of times to the victims and their loved ones, of the endless list of mass shootings in that country.

This is not taking joy in someone's death, it's called equality.

for a long time, gun violence has been a major problem in america. trump's legacy will be he's wilfully turned up the volume to such an extent it's now american against american.

Any comments from POTUS about the school kids shot in Colorado around the same time?
