I can see Moraes being a 150 gamer for us
Hope he makes it. Certainly works hard on the field and very team orientated.

Interestingly 150 games for a club is the new 200. We've only had 12 players reach 200 in 29 seasons. A lot of the better player change clubs at some point these days.

There's about another 20 players that could have / should have played 200 for Port, but started or ended their career elsewhere.

Sign of times. Especially around draft / trade time it feels like such a meat market listening to the media.

Wasn't he in the mix for the top 5 players of his draft before the 2024 season started? I was turned off when I saw his "unique" kicking action but he has won me over with his second efforts and if he can actually tinker the mechanics of his kicking technique, he will be a very solid player.

Another who joins the long line of needing to improve his kicking.
Definitely goes full on so that’s a big positive.
I love his attitude almost as much as I love his Dad’s attitude.

I have a bit of trouble working out his best position. He doesn’t have the size or skill set to play inside mid- and he’s behind Butters Rozee JHF Bergman Wines Drew Brodie- and I’d like our wingmen to have more pace. After McEntee I don’t like second string midfielders being repurposed as forwards.

But he will be a good AFL player if we can find a spot for him.

He’s literally a text book wing.

Looks best suited to a wing for me.
That’s why to make that spot his own his kicking needs to be spot on.

Needs more size to be a winger in todays game. They have more one on one contests than just about any other position on the ground, and being so lightweight, i've seen him get pushed off the ball and out of contests far too easily

First season, so he should have room to grow there - and then yes, he's a textbook winger.

Gulden is only 175cm and he goes OK. I just wish Moraes had Gulden's kicking skills. But by size you may be referring to muscle and not height.

Moraes as is looks like your typical Port young player.
About as much meat on him as a chicken wing.
Hopefully there’s a massive improvement over the next couple of years to mussel up these young lads.
If not it’s going to be more of the same.

Yup, I was referring to muscle and not height.

Though some clubs are starting to put some tall players on the wing and using it to their advantage - ala Adelaide with Curtin which could expose his lack of height - it's something we just need to manage.

He's still 18. Plenty of time to put size on

If he had Gulden’s kicking skills he would have gone long before pick 38.
How badly do we need a kicking coach?

His kicking is a MASSIVE problem. I don’t think I’ve seen a kicking action so fundamentally bad since butch. And this guy is not a tall player.

I genuinely don’t think you can retrain it when it’s so fundamentally different.

BUT, if we can- he could be a really good player, fast, works defensively and not selfish at all.

Interesting that Jason Cripps on trade radio said he wants to play him at half forward instead of the wing.
