Usually, I don't weigh into such matters. I feel protective of the Club & MH

Now that SHocking, Cats Media and apparently even Baz have apologised, for people flying the Journalist and/or Female flag, do you think she won't do it a next time? She can't feign ignorance (on how it's impacting Baz) for the 3rd time.

Geez we are an evil bunch. 🤣🤣🤣
We only know one side of the story. We don't know what the "Junior Female Staffer" actually did.

BTW, Baz should have been described as "Junior Player undergoing Therapy" in the original article. It's all in the framing (for instance. a certain channel in the US had Reporters wearing bullet-proof vests when covering migrant caravans)

Yeah

It's clear to me that the AFL media now has Geelong in its sights because Baz had a crack at one of their own.

They're a pathetic bunch the AFL media.

Bailey's apologised and Alison will be back at the next training

Maybe it's time for us to move on also

But that's the weird thing with aussies, we don't move on. Callers today on SEN asking why isn't anyone talking about it (Seriously?), Smith should be suspended etc etc, gee whiz.

Dwayne was even saying the AFL must come out and do something about it.

If Clarko can get by with his much worse behaviour towards a female journalist..then I’m sure Baz will be fine

And I hate using whataboutism but it feels appropriate for this faux outrage by the media atm

War of attrition for four quarters would go a long way to calming any nerves. Then again, we got that last year too, so who knows.

To finally move on from Baz drama, anyone care about who we play from here?

Not really. I have a feeling it will be Hawthorn, but it's 50/50. I have confidence that we'll beat either next week, we play our best we are 4-5 goals better than the Crows & Hawks.

I definitely want Adelaide.

However I think the Crows are cooked and I expect Hawthorn to beat them easily

A Dawks game for us is basically a derby and weird things can happen, plus the crowd will be 60% for them.

Anyone else spending their evening teaching AI to update the 1997 and 1998 Finals series and results with the current final eight system?

Any recommendations for teaching predictive text to learn Blicavs & Kolodjashnij?

You could add it explicitly to the Dictionary before. Now, it learns after you type it a few times. People with strangely named friends/family know that.

You could go with Blitz & Kalashnikov, though repeated use of the latter will get you red-flagged (read: longer interviews at immigration) 🤣

The double standard is pretty high

Lauren Wood runs with "expletive tirade" about an off camera exchange bw photo journo and player at training... yet she says nothing about NDaicos and company dropiing 6 f bombs in live to air TV interviews that are seen by all and sundry on air.

So which is it Lauren, will you cue more outrage at a far more egregious expletive tirade live on air?

Yeah... didnt think so.

GO Catters

It would be good to have some context around this incident with Scott, as the surface level info that's being reported isn't that great. Clarity is needed.

Regardless of hyperbole and comparisons to other events, Baz's behaviour toward the photographer was pretty gross.

Plenty of people with vastly higher-stress jobs manage to not unleash abusive tirades against people who are doing absolutely nothing wrong in the course of their day-to-day. She wasn't being intrusive or snapping pap shots; he absolutely over-reacted.

Seems fine to me.

The media would have known about this since it happened and they've only reported on it because they got the sh*ts on at Baz for having a go at one of their own.

I'll say it again, the AFL media are pathetic.

And he's apologised.......what do you want him to do?

Yes, she was invited to training but this is where it begins to get a little murky
Does that mean that she can take photographs of anyone at any time and everything she sees?
Yes. It's out on the field, she didn't follow anyone around, and frankly if Bailey had an expectation of privacy there are plenty of places to go.
Geelong is also at fault here because maybe they need to put stricter or more concise rules around who what can be photographed
Geelong isn't at fault, what she photographed was perfectly reasonable.
I’m amused by the fact that photographers think they can take photos of anybody and everybody involved in sport not understanding any legals around this. I’m not sure that is 100% correct.
Of course they can. My understanding is that individuals don't have the right to legally enforce the deletion of photos taken of them (otherwise there would never be celebrity magazines or photos in the news section of the paper).

Not unleash tirades on photographers just doing their job?

If she were papping him on a doorstop or something like that, sure, go nuts.

To be honest, I'm not a massive fan of the club-mandated box-ticking apologies. They're inevitable and that makes them a little less than genuine.

If you think what he did was a tirade id suggest you may need to harden up slightly.

Have you seen the vision?

No, I've only seen the photo and read the quotes.

The reporting is highly embellished. Smith clearly doesn't raise his voice and doesn't use demonstrative body language. If you saw the footage in isolation you'd assume they were just having a conversation. He shakes his head a bit in frustration/annoyance and that's the only indication it's not a friendly chat.

Clearly he shouldn't have used the langage that he did, but I also question whether this would have even a story if he didn't swear at her (footballer asks for photos to be deleted as he felt vulnerable, photographer says no, everyone moves on).

I will also add that as somebody with a couple of decades of experience in the media, if a subject asked for a photo/quote to be deleted, I would at the very least have a conversation with them as to why I wouldn't do that, or involve the relevant people (in this case club media staff) in a chat. A blanket "no", while within the photgrapher's rights, is not exactly an attempt to foster a positive relationship between photographer and player moving forward.

It might have been calmly delivered, but I don't think I could get away with saying "well you're ****ing shit at your job" at work.
Cue media outrage because someone (Bailey Smith) bothered to direct some angst towards one of their own. Meanwhile the same reporters and photographers hound players and coaches 24/7 and sift through garbage bins looking for any shred of a story they can run with.

Self righteous garbage and the media need to seriously step back and see the absurdity of the situation. They're only going bananas over the Chris Scott matter because it's been dealt with and put to bed by the AFL and the media aren't being given any dirt on what actually occurred.

Childish and petulant stuff from the media. Double standards are alive and well. Look at some of the comedic stuff from media in the last week.
-- Garry Lyon telling Bailey Smith to be a better man (Billy Brownless says hi)
-- Leigh Matthews saying the AFL need to crack down on incidents behind the ball (Neville Bruns says hi)
-- David King says the Chris Scott matter is serious and should be investigated further (the kebab vendor says hi)
